Our Pilots and Ramp Agents work closely together each day, but rarely do they have the opportunity to work together, side-by-side. Our Pilots climbed out of the cockpit and down to the Ramp so they could learn about another side of our operation.

I wish more airlines did this. It's easy to forget what us rampers have to go through to keep these planes on schedule and keep everyone from the passengers to the crew happy

I used to work as a ramp agent for American. I know how tough that job is. I've been hailed on, rained on, snowed on, you name it. I've deiced planes in whiteout conditions. I have the upmost respect for ramp agents, and when I am a pilot, I will take that respect with me. It is something I will never forget.

I did it myself, albeit with the cargo airplanes, while I was in college. It was my part time. And yeah, loading airplanes in extreme weather is not fun.

Wow that’s really great to see pilots and the ramp crews interacting and to know their jobs. Great job Southwest!!!

It"s a good idea but you should have the Ramp Management with C/S Management get in the bins for a Week or Six and have them work short handed like it really happens. See how that works for them.

first officer always comes down to conduct a walk around inspection of the plane therefore they do see the ramp agents every time they land

Rampers have always done great landings on my baggage (never an incident). Now smooth landings from the pilots... That has never been 100% :D, but they all have been great landings as we get off the plane safe and the plane keep on flying! LUV SWA!

9 years later, I think all airlines should require a system such as this, but I don’t think Ramp Agents should be flying the Plane. 😂

It's really not that bad unless the flight is really heavy. You get to be a pretty good judge of how many bags you can get in a row and short stack

Do they still do this? I bet those poor pilots went home and used entire bottles of Icy Hot! 😂😂😂😂 It's definitely not an easy job!

I feel worse for pilots. Decades of super low wages getting flight hours and certifications under your belt to become a pilot for even a regional carrier.
@MasterCarguy44-pk2dq
@MasterCarguy44-pk2dq 6 лет назад
These days, the regional pilots have gotten a nice pay bump up to what it should be, 55-62k a yr starting, in a right seat regional jet. In 2015 it was 28-33k a yr.
@dwightstewart7181
@dwightstewart7181 8 лет назад
Gee, since it was supposedly so beneficial to those pilots to see how the other half works, did the ramp agents get to fly aircraft with passengers for long hours to gain from that perspective? What's next? Flight attendants repairing engines or avionics?
