Sovereign hill is located at Golden point Ballarat. Gold was first discovered in the 1850's with prospectors coming from all over the world to strike it rich. The gold rush ended a few years later when the cost of retrieving gold from the ground became too expensive. However, some of the Ballarat gold fields have been reopened from time to time, one such mine is in Canadian. One of the original and still working mines is the Debra mine in Bendigo.
