Amir your videos are so relaxing I love to sit with a cuppa and watch and most of all listen. So calming so tranquil… just how gardening should be thank you just a chill and relax that I need for Sunday evening xx
Thank you so much Lynne. That really means a lot to me, when we have this passion for gardening I do like to appreciate as much as I can. This month I’m upbeat because even after work I can look forward to some sowing “me time” 😊❤🌱 I hope you are keeping well?
@@AmirsAllotment yes have been to my allotment today, preparing my poly tunnel ready for the new season ahead. Did some maintenance and have taken lots of rubbish away. My goal this year is to make as much compost as I can, so we’ve made 2 more bays from pallets and today Ive been insulating the sides with bags full of cardboard and old wood too.
I love sowing time too.. okra always fail for me, even in the polytunnel, it goes yellow after a while and never sets fruit so looking forward to seeing how yours will get on.. ❤
Hello Kay, I am expecting it to be a bit of a challenge, this year I am hoping to try more things I have not tried, just love the surprises when things work 😊🌱👍
🎉🎉 here we go 2024. I’m doing tomatoes this week as it’s been quite cold, even near the windows. But I’m also sorting lettuce and cucumbers 🥒 seed choices. Have a fab week Amir and happy sowing, Ali 🌦️🇨🇦
Good luck Ali, this month occasionally after work I can take part in some seed sowing therapy and do more. I do like starting my cucumbers off early, will have to get them started. 😊 you always grow such amazing tomatoes Ali 😊❤️👌
Isn't it just the best feeling? My sweet peas are all up. I've sorted out the next lot of seeds, all flower seeds. I'll need to sort out my tomato seed, just cherry toms this year I think. 🌱🌱🌱
Hello Tracey, it sure is exciting, I direct sowing a lot of my flowers last year, cosmos, marigolds, nasturtiums all did well. But I do want to sow much in trays so I can be more prepared. I do hope you are keeping well? 😊🌱👍
Look forward to seeing how the melons and okra grow. I have tons of Okra, seed but find it really like hit sunny conditions which we have no guarantee with our British weather. I might pop a few seeds and try again.
Thanks Louise, I really want to push the boundaries a bit this year and try some new things, I have a friend in Denmark and she had abundant harvest of okra last year. Let me know how you get on if you try it 😊🌱👍
Hello Amir. I'm in California and love to grow okra each summer. I'm able to direct sow seeds. They tend to do best in sun and hot weather. And once they start flowering, you need to harvest pods almost every day so the okra doesn't get woody. I already know you're going to have a wonderful harvest.
Thanks Susan, great tips, I can’t wait to see how they do now. How are your garden plans going? We have some nice Okra recipes, we fry them a little so they are less slimey inside 😂
I can lose hours to sowing seeds and potting up seedlings. Worth every minute. I've done okra a couple of times (Niagara Region, in Ontario, Canada). The first year, they were great with a huge harvest. The second year, I think the soil dried out too quickly, and they failed to even germinate. The flowers are beautiful. Part of the hibiscus family, I believe. Good luck with your growing.
Hello Charissa, Nice to hear about your experience with Okra, I can’t wait to see the flowers now, if I get that far 😁 it is so lovely sowing seeds and knowing they they will be filling up the garden in a matter of months 😁🌱
I always like the production on your videos, congratulations Amir, even your background music hits the right notes. Perfectly explained about sowing early and why. I love the Gigantomo as well great taste for a big variety.
Thanks so much Mike, I have many ideas but it’s always about finding the time to give what I post a little more attention. When it’s things I enjoy, definitely makes it easier. I trust you are keeping well? 😁🌱👍
I'm in a holding pattern right now on sowing as my last frost date is May 15th. However, it looks like we might have an early spring. I do have several things winter sown and inside are my alliums, celery, ginger and celeriac. April 1st is my go crazy sowing date. I did okra once, and I just don't have a long enough season it seemed. hard to say for sure having only done it once.
Hello Robin, I hope you are well? wise move to go with the seasons, you end up with stronger plants, I’m also a big fan of succession sowing, like to try and enjoy things for longer 😊🌱
Hello Jenny, exciting how it’s time to sow already, although a bit of a cold snap, we use spinach and chard a lot in our cooking, they are more versatile than people think and good for you 😃🌱👍
Hi Amir, I like to seive my compost for my seeds too. I have sown, cucumber, Dahlia, Asslym, carrots, onions, leeks, melon, cosmos, tomatoes, sweet million, Sungold, crimson crush calendula, sweet red peppers, chrysanthemums. I run a plant sale in May on our allotment site, invite plot holders, friends & family too. To raise funds for our association, which contributes to buying in compost, fertiliser, canes, etc. For our association members to buy throughout the season as some people don't have transport. You have sown a lot of seeds. Exciting times ahead. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Hello Christine, wow you have been a busy bee! It’s great though, I love this month, will keep sowing and keeping the excitement going. That’s so lovely the plant sale, such a nice thing to do for the community, I love it! 😁🌱
It was very theraputic just watching you sow those seeds Amir and that minature trowel you used is just perfect. 😀 I'll be interested to see your results with the okra. I've never cooked with it personally as out here in the sticks it's hard to get at our local Supermarkets. I have very limited greenhouse space so am having to juggle what I grow in there. I guess I'll have to grow more outdoor tomatoes to make room for other things as I got some melon seeds at a recent seed swap. This week I've made small indoor sowings of things that I'll make successional sowings of every month (as long as I remember) 😀
Hi Janice, it’s an exciting time, just enjoying plans to get sowing regularly too. Okra is interesting lovely in a curry, a little bit like aubergine in flavour. I had some lovely outdoor tomatoes last year, will definitely do more this year 😃🍅👍🌱
Lovely, calming video again. I love your style of editing Not tried Okra. Won’t be sowing my tomatoes yet. Resisting the urge to panic because everyone else is 🤣😂
Thank you Claire, i do like to try and push the boundaries with my editing. I convinced myself it was just a tray of tomatoes as a test 😂 I think you are being very wise.
Hi Amir, lush opening with those clouds 😊 Great to get things put in pots 🌱🤞🏽 I sowed my sugar baby melons on 1st Feb, but still nothing 😢 I'll start again I think Fab update 😁 Rach 🌱👩🏼🌾
They do take their time Rach, I abandoned a tray last year and then they all appeared 😂 you won’t be disappointed with the sugar baby lots of small melons, they foliage and vines are quite dainty not as out of control as some other variety of melons
I’ve never tried eating or growing okra. I often see it in the supermarket but never brought any. It’s mainly because I have no idea how to cook it or what to use it in. I might get some this week and if I like it I might give it a go in the allotment. Any cooking tips would be appreciated 👍🏻
Hi Adam, they have a funny slimey texture inside 😂 but they taste great fried in a little bit of oil and seasoning, with tomatoes can be made into a nice curry, taste is similar to aubergine
@@AmirsAllotment ahh aubergine, my arch nemesis 😡. I’ve been trying to grow them for 3 years now and not a single aubergine have I harvested. I’ll definitely try them in a curry. My wife sometimes makes a tradition Mauritian 🇲🇺 curry and I’m sure they’ll go great in it.
I have just got some okra seeds today, I also have never sown or used them in cooking so will let you know. Love your little pots where did you get them from 😊
Hello Denise, you will have to keep me posted on how you get on. The trays with the little pots in were from Home Bargains, I think they were only a couple of pounds 😀🌱
Thanks for letting me know, will see how they go, I’m hoping they might do better in my south facing garden at home. However, we have more pests here, a lot of ants and slugs in the summer month. If I get more than one plant then will try in both gardens and see what happens 😃🌱👍
Hi Amir, sorry, but I had to stop watching because of the high pitched irritating music in the background. You have a lovely, voice and interesting things to say, so I'm looking forward to your next vlog.
I’m sorry Glynis, when I next edit, I will make sure i mute the music when I’m talking, I’m still learning and I think I have figured out how to do it now 😂 i do appreciate you letting me know. I do hope you are keeping well 🤗🌱
