🌟 Swayambhunath is an ancient religious complex perched atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley, just west of Kathmandu city in Nepal. Its Tibetan name, “Phags.pa Shing.kun,” translates to “Sublime Trees,” reflecting the lush greenery found on the hill. However, in Nepal Bhasa (the local language), it’s simply called “Swayambhu,” meaning ‘self-sprung.’ 🌿
🙏 For the Buddhist Newars, Swayambhu holds immense significance-it’s their most sacred pilgrimage site. Imagine Buddha’s eyes and eyebrows painted on the stupa, gazing out over the peaceful valley. 🧘♂️
🐒 And yes, it’s called the Monkey Temple because playful monkeys roam around, adding a touch of mischief to this spiritual haven! 🐵
