Here's how we harvested soybeans in 1987. We ran 3 John Deere 8820 combines with 20 foot platforms. Carts are Brent Grain Trains. Video taken by Tom Roth, who ran one of our brown Mack R semis.

We ran 2 8820 Titan II's for a few years. We ended up putting duals on one and Mauer bin extensions. Since then both my granddad and my dad have passed away and quit farming all together. Sold all the equipment. But decided to keep the 8820 with duals and an 843 corn head. It's even 4wd. This video reminds me of when we ran ours.

Wish somebody still ran a fleet of dualed up 8820s!!! They look great!

For viewers wondering why they ran only 20ft. platforms and duals on 8820s, they farmed on ridges and planted 16 rows (in the corn harvest video you can see a driver having a very rough ride as he crossed at an angle). 8 row cornheads and 8 rows of soybeans = 20 ft platforms. I guess it must have been the next season they went to 853A rowcrop heads, 8650 tractors and Orthman carts.

Yep, I remember that same weed control we had. Made the Ole girl grunt once in a while. Had a 8820 then too.

@@matthewheinze1231 😂me too! On a beta-max at my grandparents nonetheless. My all-time favorite part is when the 8820’s showed up. It’s still gets me excited watching it now at 43.

@@EDBZ28 Oh that music and those brand new 8820s mercy!!!!! Ole Grover just should of sucked his guts a few more minutes for Mary Alice to save the day!!!! It's been a good 15 years since I watched it but remember it like just the other day!

@@matthewheinze1231 😂…boy you do have it right down! You’ve got me thinking about that music right now! Considering the times we currently live, it’s astonishing that movie was ever produced and aired for network TV. I remember watching it the night it aired and being so excited, there was NO WAY mom was getting me to bed by 9 that night.

@@EDBZ28 Hahaha yup! It only aired twice where I lived. The first time I was glued to the TV. The second time, maybe year later, parents had a VCR. You know I bootlegged that thing!
