Soyuz has released their Launcher Deluxe, a new stereo version of their single Launcher. Not only does it provide additional gain and color like the original, but it includes the new "Saturate" mode that allows you to process line level signals through it as well as pass phantom power to condenser microphones.
We'll focus on the line level aspects in this video and run individual stems as well as a full mix of Wes Dorethy's single "Bad Blood" through the Launcher Deluxe.

Thank you. The Launcher (shown by this video) is the spice i've been looking for. As with any mix, subtle is so much.

Very subtle. All your examples already sound great so it’s very subtle. It sometimes feels like it being summed thru analog while the launcher is on. I guess it’s makes it more spacious sounding. But again. All the tracks already sounds amazing so def makes it more subtle.

Another fantastic, high quality demo - many thanks! I spoke to my local rep over the weekend and have one on its way. I see I'm not the only one as a result of your fine vid... You should be collecting points, brother! ;)

Was it distorting the electric guitar more? It’s definitely adding tons of awesome harmonics but the guitar sounded more distorted. Not in a necessarily bad way, just more noticeable. Cool demo! Thanks for putting the time in it. I have a pair of the original launchers I use as a stereo mix effect and always had trouble getting the fain right because I had to gain out of my DAW at crazy low levels bringing up the noise floor crazy high from my ADC. I’m so glad they came out with this. Saturate Mode to the rescue!

Ya, it was a pain feeding mixes through the original Launchers. I had to set up a Master Fader to the output and turn it down 35-40 dB. I use my Launchers on electric guitars a lot as they tend to add some nice distortion/harmonics on top, so I'm right there with you. I like what it does on electrics.

Hi there - what's your opinion on having the launcher deluxe as a Master Bus insert? (Just to provide some transformer color). Would it be worth getting it mainly for this purpose? Would you likely have this in the beginning or end of the 2-bus gain stage ?
@nathanaeldavenport2251
@nathanaeldavenport2251 Год назад
Yeah, subtle is right. Too subtle, in my opinion. I'd get this for gain boosting, not for saturation.

Thanks for the review, very thorough and informative. I have been using the original mono Launcher primarily to get 26dB of gain from dynamic mics. If I use the Deluxe Launcher only to increase gain (bottom switch in Launcher Mode), would I notice a difference (or improvement) in color from the original Launcher? I was planning on getting a Launcher Deluxe, however, I don't use condenser mics nor plan to use line level signals. If I were to buy 2 basic launchers instead, it would save me about $200. Your opinion and experience of other users is greatly appreciated.

I've got two of the original launchers. "Launcher Mode" on the Deluxe is exactly the same as the old Launchers. If you don't need the extra features of the "Saturate Mode", save some. money and get two of the mono Launchers!

I've been hoping for these since the launch of the launcher. I'm going to put 16 across my 2 X-Desks and on on the Master insert also. Quick question: Have you ever looked into the Roger Mayer 452 500 series units? I would highly advise reviewing. Subtle but astoundingly magic!

I've reached out to them a few times over the last two years about reviewing some of their gear and they've yet to follow through. I hear they're great though!

I'm using the original Launcher on my FatHead II ribbon mic and dig it. I'm seriously thinking about this one for condensers and running thru my mixbuss... Other than sweet saturation, did you notice any added noise to your signal? Thank you!

any chance you can make a small mini update: what happens when you connect a fet mic to the launcher twice ? as in mic to input a, output a to input b, output b to pre amp ?
@MillSounds
@MillSounds 3 месяца назад
I might do that at some point. Pretty easy to try with the Launcher Deluxe!

Nice preamp. Can I use it with DPA 4099 without buying a phantom power? Thanks
@MillSounds
@MillSounds Год назад
It needs phantom power to provide gain to a microphone. If you just want the "color" from the box, you can put it in Saturate Mode and place it between your DPA and a normal preamp. It is not a stand alone preamp that will power your microphone.

Very subtle, is is like the RND 542?
@MillSounds
@MillSounds Год назад
I had a pair of 542's for a week or so. With them and just tape stuff in general, there tends to be a bit of a bump in the low end and a subtle high frequency rolloff. With the Launcher Deluxe, it's a similar "vibe" but kind of the opposite frequency wise. I'm hearing a bit of a rolloff on the low end that actually helps focus things a lot better in many cases. There's also a bit of a high frequency boost (Soyuz designed the original Launcher for dynamic mics like the SM57, so that makes sense). I would say the Launcher Deluxe would be really complementary to tape style saturators, it would be fun to hear the 542 and Launcher work in tandem!
@darrylweller6143

Thanks! That song was done for my Lewitt LCT 1040 Mic review (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Yq50A2g08vY.html), so everything was done with that mic going into my API Console.

Love this channel. Always great content!!! Quick question: what is the main difference between putting the Launcher before and after the preamp? Thanks
@MillSounds
@MillSounds Год назад
I have not tried putting the Launcher Deluxe after a preamp yet. I think the main difference would be ability to "drive" the Launcher. If you use it between the microphone and preamp, the microphone signal is much lower and wouldn't "drive" the Launcher as hard. Putting it after the preamp (especially one that has gain as well as an output control) would allow you to control how hard you push the Launcher with the output of the preamp. Definitely worth trying, I'm sure I'll get around to it eventually!

@MillSounds
@MillSounds Год назад
@This Guy I was using my API Console to push it more. That would be the easiest way to do it, you'll need some sort of mixer if you want to push it extremely hard. I've got another video on my channel from a while back where I pushed my original launcher pretty hard, I would watch that if you're curious about what it sounds like when you really push the circuit hard.
@MillSounds
@MillSounds Год назад
@This GuyAnother person on a forum mentioned this... If you want some crazy/fuzzy distortion from the Launcher Deluxe, you can actually feed line level signals into it in the "Launcher Mode". If you don't apply phantom power to it, for some reason it passes a low level signal through that's totally destroyed.
@jamescassidy4045
@jamescassidy4045 Год назад
So it has phantom power pass thru always, or only when in the saturate mode? Was just abit confused by your wording!
@MillSounds
@MillSounds Год назад
In the Saturate Mode, it will pass phantom power to a microphone and give you saturation without the gain boost.
@jamescassidy4045
@jamescassidy4045 23 дня назад
@@MillSounds Oh, okay, thanks dude. So were all these examples in Sat mode then except maybe the over pushed one, or was that also?
@MillSounds
@MillSounds 22 дня назад
@@jamescassidy4045 This was a while back, but I "think" I was passing line level signals through the Launcher Deluxe after the fact (I didn't have the mics plugged into it). So yes, everything in this was probably in Saturate Mode and going line level out of my DAW.
@MillSounds
@MillSounds 22 дня назад
@@jamescassidy4045 Yes, they would have to be in Saturation mode. Otherwise, I would have to hook up a phantom power supply to power it in Launcher mode to process line level signals. I've got another video where I do this with the original mono version of the Launcher, if you're curious (that was before the Launcher Deluxe came out).
