@@brianrigsby7900 Yes. The drivers lose grip and spin rapidly until they can close enough steam to bring it under control.

Peyton Boyd Historically, it was used more than the whistle. SP had them because they were supposed to be more effective in foggy coastal areas.

The engineers used them more because it was easier than pulling the whistle cord. In a way they were preparing for the use of what are the horns on the diesel locomotives & the electric locomotives. The GG1’s that were in service for the Pennsylvania which was later Penn Central had air horns.

Paul Wassel been changed 3 times to get more accurate to a GS-4. Initially it has an SP 6 chime, than a Northern Pacific Hancock 3 Chime, and finally an SP GS-4 Hancock 3chime.

Those marked "Secondary" were worn and operated on the fireman's side in addition to the primary whistle on the engineer's side. No, it’s a Leslie A-200 air horn. It was installed at the time when this locomotive was built, which was 1941. Back then they were used more often whenever they travel on foggy coastal areas of the west coast of the United States.

It's actually an SP 3 chime. She got her Hancock removed in 2001.

New River Productions Her previous three whistles, and her current one, are all Hancock three chimes, with the exception of those used on the fireman's side. Now, about that date. She had the same whistle from 1989 to late 2010, then got a new whistle - the SP Hancock 3 Chime - for Holiday Express 2010, and wore it from then until 2012. Upon her restoration in 2015, she was fitted a different SP Hancock 3 Chime from SP 4452.

@@robertbrotherton1375 the whistle she has on now is an SP GS-2 Flattop 3 Chime. All the GS-4s had Steptop 3 chimes that sound like the one from the 80s, being 700’s whistle.

How can I get on that? I can find no info on any excursions at all. Been trying for years but just a blank.
