PAUL C IN HEAVEN RIGHT NOW LIKE "man wit those extra 10 secs..." but for real, dope video Cookin. For those that don't know about Paul C, trace his lineage. There is a reason Rakim had a sp1200 dedicated shrine to him in his house. Hope Large Pro gets hands on one of these. Rossum killed this and we all owe him a lot of thanks.
@HipHopHobbyKlub I was just commenting on the legacy of Paul C and showing respect. Yeah it’s a drum machine and sampler. It’s a instrument in the right person hands. I know that you had one also. I believe I seen a video on a channel where a lady beatmaker said that you gave her yours if I’m not mistaken. I subscribed to her channel.
@@hiphophobbyklub with a very specific sound signiture that makes beats, specifically snares crack! So it isn't "just a machine." Remake hip hop classic made on it in software, or even 2000xl, sp404 or asr10 & see if you can get it to sound the same... They'll all sound different.
Only someone not old enough would say that. Nothing touches the 80's. 80's was king in music period... EVERYTHING was "stupid dope fresh". The 90's was dope too but it was the beginning of the end. Things just hit different after the 90's where Nas had to make an album about it. I am sorry but the 80's was bananas and off the chain. Music on a whole blew it's load in the 80's.
I had my SP1200 for almost 30 years sold it last year and went on an amazing holiday with the cash Anyone complaining that 4K is to much cash for this SP1200, do you know it will last you easily 30 years ? It’s peanuts and for this incredible re issue a well worth investment I’m about to order and will make beats on this until I’m in my 70,s No bugs no software updates it’s gonna be great ) Ps I loved this video Cooking Soul thank you 🙏
Man the work you do is so inspiring to all of us. I dont know how you find the time to do all this work and film / edit your videos on top of everything else. Incredible.
Just wanted to say that you truly are an inspiration for me. Your beats are unique and crisp. The way you use samples and design sounds like your snares, sax, etc, is just amazing. You make sampling look so easy and it drives me to become a better producer. Thank you so much man, don’t stop making music
Yea it has been significantly upgraded, instead of the noise that you hear on the HI's its much more tame and clear when it comes to the mid and bass. You have a jewel in your hand and cant wait to hear what you come up with.
I hope this encourages a new generation of kids who aren't afraid to create a new sound again. This video reminded me of the early days of RU-vid and being able to find new cats making beat videos using all kinds of samplers. MPC's, ASR's, etc..
Thank you for doing this video => It is great & the beat ❤🔥 My Dave Rossum finally came and i can honestly say it is incredible It feels better than my original sp1200 I have no regrets selling my original sp1200 which i had from brand new. The price point to me is good considering the build quality and believe me it will last for at least 30 years, so divide that 3k over years months weeks For me tho the best thing about the sp1200 series is the actual fun it is using them, the layout, the ease of use, it all just feels great. With that being said, different strokes for different folks just enjoy and kill it Thanks again for the video - )
Question: Why would you want HipHop to sound any other way? The beauty about boom-bap is that whether it’s jazz or rock influenced, the percussion takes centre stage, whilst all other instruments compliment and enhance the audio creation that you are witnessing.
Hey bro just want to thank you for ur music. Just recently had it recomended to me on youtube and instantly moved to spotify. Now im bumpin ur beats every day in my car. I have an sp404 im working with atm. Trying to use the sp for samples and put em thru an interface to work with and master in logic pro x. So i admire your beats on an inspirational level. Didnt know you did vids like this too! Thanks for all this man, continue murdering beats
Thank you so much OMG SWEET VIDEO, awesome music, and very informative and funny as well:) Much love, I am Eagerly waiting my unit hahah! You and Rossum Electro both rule, hope you are happy amd healthy and thanks for making this high quality video!
I gave my SP1200 away.....Got the s2400...only for the fortcoming SP1200 disks Transfer -ism. ( external USB disk...rrrr.rrrrr.rrrrr.....loading ready )
Nice Tutorial some serious beat making' love the sounds real warm, and not to fuzzy. Big up yourself on that one, I'm certainly going to own one by the end this yea'!!! Bless you 🙏👍🏿
Love the sound, but $4k is a little steep. I know the OG's run about 3x that price, but I could buy another MPC Live 2, Maschine+ and SP-404 Mk II for that price.
Yeah, $4k is unattainable. It’s a bummer. I’d rather invest in an Ableton Push or an MPC. However, if the SP-1200 was $1k, it would definitely be my first choice.
Hey CS, please make a video where you show us your equipment, hardware and everything else to make hard boom bap beats like in the old goldschool era :) It would be very interesting for all who want to start with producing and for all who love that oldschool era. Love your beats and videos, keep going :)
I remember the original sp1200 was like $12k when it came out, so this is a steal....especially an upgraded one. I always love the circuitry in units like this. It makes a difference in sound.
So smart of dave to recreate such a classic. If people are willing to pay for an old one with miles on it, they should be willing to buy a new one off the lot. Also, if he would have waited, Beringer would have eventually probably reproduced it with not as good components.
No, the SP-1200 reissue does not heat up noticeably like a classic vintage instrument. You can comfortably touch any part of the case, for example to reach over the back to adjust the filter sliders. All of the vents have been removed as they are no longer necessary. Also, the power brick uses a locking XLR-style connector that won't come loose during a performance.
@cookinsoul I wasn't even looking at videos to help me decide on whether or not to buy one. It was only when you posted this that I found out about the reissue. Nonetheless you sold me on this. Thanks and Peace
This aesthetically looks dope as hell, and I’ve been contemplating getting one. To settle this shit once and for all, we need a side by side of an original SP1200 with the SSM2044 chip, a later model SP with the SSI2144 and an Isla S2400, which also has the SSI2144. Then we can all decide for ourselves which sounds the best. You had 2 of them side by side, yet we get an off camera comparison. Let’s see it in real action.
It's already known that the SSM2044 chips are still the best and you can listen to SSM2044 vs SSI2144 side by side and there's a noticable advantage with the SSM2044 , but I honestly can't hear any difference In this video. You can hear It In the new Prophet 5 reissues vs the original Prophet 5's which have the SSM2044. New SP1200 sounds close enough that's all that matters , imo It really sounds 100% exact even though It's not because It's using the new 2144 chips and they aren't exact. Better to spend $4000 rather than 8k on old potentially unreliable originals , that's alot of money to gamble with.
