Honestly, this is a great alternative technique. Chromatic mode doesn't always play nicely with certain samples. If you know your key, you can get two full octaves in one bank!

Or you could sample one note. Copy it across the pads and make each one a different pitch.

sampling and resampling changing the pitch works, but it depends how you want to play the note also. you get original higher quality sampling as many notes as possible. a big way to hear the difference is if holding the note for a couple seconds. resampled notes finish faster.

sp 404 mk2 is great, but I would rather sample all the notes like you do, as the pitch algorithm is def not it's strong suit

Looks awesome, can't wait to try. One question: why sample a chromatic scale at all if you're planning on using pentatonic? You could have 3 octaves if you just samples fhe notes you wanted in the first place.

Does these patterns in your book work when you use a one shot bass sample in chromatic mode? I just purchased your book but it doesn’t sound right when l try this.

it works but i don't recommend that method. its better to either use drum machine as a midi controller or sample individual notes to each pad like i did in this vid

I purchased this book because the sp404 mk2 has chromatic mode and now your telling me you don’t recommend that method. l don’t understand your comments could you please be more specific is your book incorrect?

Chromatic mode was recommended for MPC, that book was written way before the 404MK2 was released Apparently chromatic mode on mk2 doesn’t work right? Maybe Roland will fix that in a software update idk

Let me clarify, you can use chromatic mode like i say in the book. it still works better if you're using midi with MPC or Maschine. However when you sample 1 note and place it in 16 levels it takes a single note and time stretches it. The method i do in this vid samples each individual note and places them in chromatic order so it sounds more realistic versus being time stretched. If you use midi with the sp404mk2 it limits you to only 1 range of notes. Thats why i prefer the method i did in this vid.

Why sampling a bad-sounding online bass? Why not sampling for example, a good kontakt library or a trillion bass of spectrasonics? Why these difficulties?
