Incredible, great research Spa Guy ❤ can you imagine 27 hours train ride and then walking for a long walk, 21 year old Elvis just walking back home. No cellphones, no paparazzi, no busy roads. Another Era.
Poor love ... Elvis had to walk home as you show this before Billy : How far his house was to the train station . Our beloved Elvis did this all for his parents ❤ . Thank you Billy love this story . Hi from Sydney Australia today is Wednesday 5Th July 2023 . Happy 4Th of July America ,My birthday was on the 4Th of July to .
Thank you Spa Guy, What an incredible change of Elvis’s from the beginning of His career taking the Train and not being recognize to have multiple Airplanes of His own (Only Elvis Could achieve That) ! Thank you great video Arrivederci!
Absolutely fantastic research Spa Guy. The photo of Elvis waving is, to me, so important. Almost the moment when Elvis went from being a regular guy to becoming a superstar. As a tourist in Memphis I've driven that road but never realised this was THE spot where this photo was taken. And yes, well done Alfred Wertheimer for capturing such historic photos.
Elvis walked home 4th July 1956, two days after that legendary RCA session which included 31 takes of Hound dog, 28 takes of Don't Be Cruel and 12 takes of Any Way You Want Me (which tape would be the holy grail to Elvis fans if it ever was found,... but most probably the tape was erased... tragically enough...) 😶... but always nice videos, Mr Spa Guy... many interesting places and stories and facts... 👍
Loved it loved it loved it!!! Quite amazing he didn't have someone to come pick him up at the station to bring him home.....Especially at that stage in his career. Can you imagine driving those streets and seeing Elvis walking along and/or cutting through a park to get to his 1st Big house he lived. Just bizarre. Really loved this piece of the Elvis puzzle. Thanx Billy for this and ALL your vids. Until the next one - Take Care, my Friend.
Wow!! I never would have been able to find that location 😅 I love those pictures. It’s crazy seeing him walking alone. I also never realized he performed hound dog on the Steve Allen show before actually recording it.
Thanks Spa Guy., great video, you re the best...Seeing ELVIS walking on the street, just like a regular guy even though HE was on T.V" and started to be famous, it s very emotional HE could of taken a cab..., they had plenty in those days and it was not expensive...I guess HE was still nervous for being on T.V, so HE rather walked . I would say that this walk,. was the calm , before the storm hits Memphis....****LONG LIVE THE LING****
That’s amazing!! I’m sure if those were girls, they would have been looking at him!! 🥰 Fascinating that someone took a photo of him walking home!! Great job!! Loved the story, photos, and facts!!!👏🏼👏🏼
I've been in Clarksdale my entire life and remember seeing Elvis many times through the years out front of Graceland. Have heard the PAs announce him entering and leaving the old Sears during Christmas time. I was 55 years old before I ever went to Graceland to see it. I would not have done that except that a friend and his son from Down Under that had come here for the blues show wanted to go and asked me to drive them. I did, and am sort of glad about it. He just one of us that did well and I do not go into the homes of those folks either. I've eaten at the Bellmont many times and never knew this as I sat there looking at those tracks and thinking "my this must have been a bustling spot back in the day". I'll be damned. Thank you.
Great research! I've been at that intersection many times! I had thought the train had a stop at Whitestation Rd & that's where he had left the train, but that would have been east of Mendenhall. Thanks for the maps, also! 😀
Great lineups SG. The Starsky skills comes to the forefront once again. Mercy,, Elvis,,looks sharp as a tack here,,in his 'everyday life' gig. We love those old mom & pop gas stations like in your lineup here. .They all had panache,in the design of the buildings.
Poor Elvis having to walk home. Bless him. No wonder he had a fetish with cars. Thank you Mr. Spa Guy for a bit more of the Elvis history. You tightened up for sure !! Thank you for all of your hard work. I pray that you, Ms Lori and family had a wonderful 4th of July. God bless. Happy 4th of July all.
lynnelovett, I believe he did not have to walk home but chose to get off at the train stop nearer his families home. Still photographed by a later famous photographer at the dawn of his super stardom.
Great and intetesting detective work Billy. Thank you so much. I love it!!! Its intetesting that this person took these photos at this time. No cameras on the street corners. Wondering who it was that took the pic ( maybe i missed that) with the train conductors hats in it from the train and another person take the obe of him getting a street dog. So many questions, twist and turns learning who Elvis was and is. ❤
In 1959, while Elvis was serving in West Germany, Priscilla, visiting the Eagles club, deliberately approached Elvis. I would appreciate it if you could take a video of this part. Currie Grant is Elvis' military friend who introduced Priscilla to Elvis Presley. Currie Grant said Priscilla wanted to meet Elvis and in exchange for an introduction Priscilla and Grant slept.
Awesome history research ! The iconic pics. Must been a very good camera, and photograher too! you can truly see its definitely the king on his way home. Looking so cool in his suit.God bless you Billy. Your Simply The Best! ❤️
Hey Spa Guy: As usual more good research , Clearly and directly delivered: I’ve been off the Elvis Scene for a while but I’ve come back and I’ve been seeing all this conflict between two parties that really should be living in mush better harmony : You both want the same thing , true story’s of what really happened and where: Now I know the fact that your heart and intentions have always been in the right place and I have been drawn to you because you work so hard to ensure you get it right; Now the other parties who are on the other side of the fence certainly as I see it have no right to force you out of your own business and Creation : What sense does that make :Now I have a liking for these folks but I don’t like to hear of bullying tactics from anyone and it’s not leaving a good taste in the eyes of the Fans : We don’t want no internal squabbling, it is a slight on Elvis’s memory and a embarrassment for us fans to have to witness: I stand by the fact that if a man creates something then no other has the right to step in a up set the cart : I hope you come out with what you deserve from all this in fighting : You have done nothing but good for Elvis and no one can say any different and if they do they have no real strength in their argument and should not be able to railroad you from anything that is yours: Tighten up 👍👍
I used to get my hair cut right there at a place called Male Image, later called Image and their some sweet ladies in there. Never knew all this before this video. Thanks!
Even then Elvis was watched, photographed and written about in the Commercial Appeal? Wertheimer took the picture and was later in Richmond, Va. near my home town to photograph the famous "The Kiss?" There is something so appealing seeing Elvis in this time, not mobbed and free to walk anywhere. And, I want to add, this was pre-Gladys death, pre Priscilla, Pre Army. All pivotal life changing times in Elvis' life. When Elvis was unspoiled by his fame.
Yes Trey actually interview the Lady that was in "The Kiss" picture.. Here it is.. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-aXufADWgyrA.htmlsi=Ioi7n7bWGH6dMqqO
Great video billy! I have soo many quesrions! Firstly what was the reason for elvis getting off the train and walking home while Alfred wertheimer and cousin gene smith were still on the train? Secondly, where were his belongings after a long 27 hour train ride? Thirdly, how did alfred eventually meet up with him later on tht day to take pictures of elvis at home on audobon and in the pool? Really curious about all these little details.....
Elvis got off to go home and rest before the Russwood Park show that night.. Gene and Alfred went on to the train station and brought the luggage back to the Audubon house..
Hi Spa Guy, Thank you for a wonderful report well researched. I just wanted to add that Steve Allan was very anti rock n' roll and not an Elvis fan at all but only had Elvis on his show to pull in the ratings. It's also been noted in past publications that Elvis hated singing to a hound dog calling it the most embarrassing thing he had ever done. One of the reasons that Elvis never appeared on television for years later was because Elvis thought that people would remember him from the Steve Allan Show the comedy skits weren't even funny it just made Elvis look stupid. I wish on hindsight that Elvis had appeared on the Johnny Cash Show or the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour from what I've seen the comedy was very poor on that show as well. Tom Jones had attempted to get Elvis on his show but maybe Elvis didn't want to do it and told the Col. What's your point of view on this?
A photographer to have gotten pics of Elvis, after getting off the train, and music history. I did not know until now, the pic of him getting something to eat, it was taken in Memphis after the train ride. I did not realize, not one person was looking at him too. That sure was to become different, he would be mobbed later on, trampled on, and some of his clothes ripped off (jewelry too).
My name is Daniel and im a 6th cousin to Elvis i had a question regarding your video, why wouldnt Elvis get off the train sooner instead of getting off the train and walking back the same direction the train came from it would of been a closer walk?
It was late morning.. The pictures you see of him in a half filled swimming pool happened the same day just after he arrived then later that night the Russwood Park show..
