My review of the recently released (2021) 1:1 scale replica of the Space 1999 Comlink and Stun Gun set released by Sixteen12 collectables. Please note that this review is not suitable for Children.
Nice review. (You saved me some money, as these “props” are merely cheap plastic kiddie toys at high-end collectible prices.) [The seam running down the middle of the stun gun immediately turned me off.]
I used the Space 1999 Technical book a long time ago built both stun gun and comlock out of wood later took plastic from yard sale signs and glued that on surface for better paint job
Kiddy toys we had no kiddy toys like this Brit! I had a two way radio comlock and a stun gun skirt gun! 1975. My broke my stun gun! They made this tv show in your country!!!!
I have a SIXTEEN12 Comlock. I like it but I do not love it. The sound samples are great but you can not pick the one you want to hear. The samples play in order when you press the 1 or 2 buttons. There is no way to hear the "open door" sound with one button press. That sucks royally. Plus the open door sound should not include the sound of the door opening but it does. I don't know what they were thinking at that price.
I'm happy that i'm not the only one unhappy with the quality. I can completely agree that i expected something far more better in build, for the price. I do wish parts had been diecast to provide a realistic 'weight', especially with the stun-gun and the laughable hollow-ness of the commlock. It seems it's a case of 'display and not play' unfortunately.
@@B3tanTyronne Likewise. I do wish i'd seen more reviews, prior to purchasing the set, however as they were thin on the ground, it was a case of trial by fire.
I got mine for £135 from the Anderson Store, though had to become a Fanderson member for a discount. Am I happy with it? As a fan of the show? Yes. Also, like yourself, I thought the CommLock could have been a lot better, at least pictures of main cast members on the screen. Ok, that’ll be mainly Paul
It could easily have done more and for not that much more cash, small 1 inch monitors can be picked up for about £2 if not cheaper in bulk, a pi zero is about a fiver (even something simpler), add on some wires etc and for about another £15 quid it could have been something truly special....the present comlock is not worth half the cost of the set, if anything £25 to £30 tops....same as the gun.
Sixteen 12 can not Post them with Batteries they say it on there website, one would assume cause they know they were sending them overseas to overseas customers. Airline freight company's i believe don't like batteries in there storage freight compartments.
I would love to do a diy build comlock, as i do have a 3d printer and im learning to be an electrician. But im missing the determination or programing skill.
Nice review 👍. Hoping to open mine soon, just hope I haven't got any scratches on them. It's a shame that no die cast is used in these supposedly high end collectables.
It is a shame that they feel so cheap, they are nice to look at, but I can see them easily being broken, and that clip is a prime example of poor design where metal should have been used rather than plastic.
I was initially really interested in this set, to add to my other prop replicas. When I saw the official Sixteen12 video showcasing them, I was extremely disappointed and ultimately passed. Why? They look too much like toys, rather than good prop replicas. The fans of this show are mainly over 50 years old now, and not interested in playing with them, - we would rather like to have them as display pieces. I say they should have eschewed the electronics, and put the money into a sturdier construction and more detail on each piece. Back in the 80's I made my own stun gun and comlock 1:1 replicas out of clay, in my high school ceramics class. I used a science fiction weapons and field equipment book as my reference guide . . .
The Gun has already died, I changed the batteries being incredibly careful with the very thin wires connecting the battery holder but to no avail. No idea if it was me or the cheapness of the construction, but I know which way I am leaning.
After 18 months I finally got my set yesterday. And while I'm happy with them, I'm like you; disappointed at the cheapness of the feel of them. But after 45 years I've got a commlock and stun gun, so I'm content.
@@B3tanTyronne True dat. I’m hoping MPC’s upcoming Stun Gun and Commlock model kit will be better. Word is they are making a sound and video kit for the commlock. By the way, that text that’s on the rectangular pad underneath the numbered pad was created by Roland Cormier, a member of the Facebook group Space: 1999 Props & Ships when he made his own electronic commlocks. Sixteen12 copied it and used it for their release without realizing it contained useless information about him and never asked if they could use it.
I wanted to get this but the plastic builds and seam line on the gun are kind of a turn off. Plus the Comlink should have have actual vids in the screen. I mean the price here in the States is around 250-300 dollars which is to much IMO.
These are toys in the same vein as most of the Star Trek prop toys made by Playmates, Art asylum/Diamond Select. They are made of lighter, cheaper plastic shells. Many of Diamond Select Star Trek toy props are going for $100+ U.S.D., today They were still, somewhat, expensive, back in the day! Maybe some other company needs to make better, “prop quality” props for Space:1999 that will cost more, but made of better plastic/resin materials. These are NOT “prop quality” heavyweight” resin or heavier plastic and metal parts. I bet these toy props are still made better than the actual screen used props. These look pretty accurate, though. Still probably good enough for fan productions and Cosplay.
Do we have Vietnamese or Malaysian built for that? Chinese would be fine, but at least we don't want to buy from china again. I wish , it's availabe in Asia for sale.
mine were faulty - battery panel on comlock has a faulty screw so can't seal that and stun gun makes some screwy sound on kill. Disappointed with build quality as well
@@andrewgrimes6407 funny mine had the same trouble screw was jammed in at an angle so was unable to screw of comlock panel also it's nice but don't think it's worth £,149.99 it's very cheaply made for that price I would've expected some metro parts
@@glennmaloney4962 I'm pleased to say that Louise from Gerry Anderson has organised a replacement for me. Really pleased with this outcome so contact them if you have issues
Meanwhile, I buy a fairly decent replica of a Star Trek phaser for $25 bucks at Walmart.. about 20 Quid. For 150 pounds I would expect something a... bit more substantial?
I did not expect them to feel so cheap. The Stun Gun stopped working months ago, absolutely no idea what has gone wrong with it. I did change the batteries (making sure I did not catch the very tiny wires when doing so) and once this happened it stopped doing anything.
They are poor quality for the money. I'm not a massive fan of the show, just had the stun gun as a kid and watched it loads back in the day. Just saw this was coming out and decided I wanted to bring back some childhood memories. But yes they are definitely not worth the money. Very disappointing as I've been wanting a year or so for them. They are kids toys not prop replicas in terms of the build, but definitely not kids toys prices!
It is a shame as I was hoping for better build quality than what I received, especially for the hefty £150 price point. It has actually made me less likely to buy anything else from them going forward.
I for one was disappointed at what I got for the price niggle one 2 shots for one press on the trigger Season one sounds for a season 2 gun and the quality was very poor Comlock very good looking but for this price every button should of had a different function and not to have the door opening sound on a separate button is just cheap and nasty . So just using them as display props will never put battery's in and use them very displeased
