Don Bluth is one of the greatest animators in the 80s originally working for Disney animation studios and later he left made some classic animated films like Secret of Nimh, The American Tail and The Land Before Time many others and he also did Dragon's Lair too.

Don Bluth was a former Disney animator, but left to make his own films such as The Secret of NIMH, An American Tale, The Land Before Time, and Anastasia.

I love Don Bluth. This is such a dope idea for a game. He actually did work for Disney! What a cool choice for a game, Suzy!

This and Dragon's Lair are two of the most beautiful games ever made.

Fun Fact.. Don Bluth himself voices the evil Borf.

You got Black Cauldron mixed up with The Dark Crystal. The Dark Crystal is Jim Henson.

omg I could only imagine how cool this game would be after dozens of hours mastering the button prompts, like actual being in control of the cartoon. seems like the muscle memory reflex combo from hell, but I know if I was growing up in the 80's and had one of these cabinets around I know I'd probably blow a fortune trying to get there.

I'm so glad I got to see someone else play this first. Sheesh. The animation is rad, but it's clear this game was made to chew through quarters at the arcade. You wouldn't have had any prompts, so the timing and direction is all guess work, and I don't imagine they had unlimited continues. It's a shame really, the animation is so fast paced it's impossible to track what you're supposed to do. You're way more tenacious than I would be.

Oh wow, I remember spending all my money in the arcade to beat this damn game when I was a kid. I could only manage beating it on Cadet level, but I did it. I missed out on buying cool shit just to beat that thing.

Kimberly is the BEST!! I was always in AWE and this game and Dragon's Lair. This game is SUPER stressful!! Gotta be quick!!! After a while, you begin to memorize the pattern. (I used to die A LOT! So I began to learn the pattern XD)

I'm just going to let you know Dragon's Lair 2 the animation is amazing fast paced and extremely hard then the first Dragon's Lair.

I'm pretty sure Ross has some of the original art from this one and Dragons Lair. Ask him and Danny to play too! I bet Danny played all the time as a kid and could answer some of your questions. Either way keep playing!

Love the game, I was introduced to the Don Bluth games by my dad, he loved them when he was a kid. So it would be awesome to see you play thought this. Pro tip: take some breaks here and there, this game gets hella frustrating when you have to do sequences over and over.

Japan actually got into this genre too with some less well known games like Esh's Aurunmilla, Super Don Quixote, Strahl, Time Gal, and Badlands. None of them are nearly as good of quality as Space Ace or Dragon's Lair, but if you're a fan of 80s style anime cheese you might wanna check them out.

Apparently the game didn't sell nearly as well as the creators had hoped, although considering how many platforms it has been ported to it seems to have had a long tail.

This game is just one big quick time event. The animation jumps around so fast that it was hard to keep track of what the hell was going on.
