It's sad because he's not the only one who's been hated by Star Wars "fans". Ahmed Best wanted to take his own life, Kelly Marie Tran received abuse and so did Moses Ingram. I have my opinions on the characters and performances but nobody deserved the abuse they all got.
I have a huge soft spot for this movie. Plus the use of the soundtrack, the sounds and the Naboo star fighters… this is a good movie I don’t care what anyone says
This one is VERY UNDERRATED and got wayyyy too much hate at the time. This one for sure is in my top 5, with the sequels out now and how they are this movie is saying “How do you like me now?”🤣🤣🤣

I don't get why people don't like young Anakin Skywalker. He never did anything wrong. He's just an innocent, cute kid with a wide sense of imagination and a big heart; he's very kind and sweet towards the people he cares about such as his friends and family. Plus, he's pretty intelligent and amazing at piloting. He even had some awesome moments such as the time he competed in the pod race and tried to help his friends in the final battle.
I honestly prefer Jake Lloyd performance as Anakin Skywalker over Hayden Christensen. It’s technically a honor for a kid to play a major role in a Star Wars film.

He really wasn't, the minute autopilot was off, he got shot down and spun right into the hanger bay area. Comparatively, Bravo Squadron lasted way longer than Anakin in actual combat.
He also pulled a borderline suicidal move by flying INTO the enemy ship to attack from within. A modern equivalent would be crash landing onto an enemy aircraft carrier to drop a Bunker buster right on top of its reactor, so it wouldn't be shot down by point defense. Yeah, it might work, but more than likely you're just gonna die.
The Aurebesh message on Anakin's screen reads: "Anakin, turn the ship around and go back home right away." Curiously, every "A" character is written backwards

Really gotta feel that cheer at the end. You get the same with the Rebels and the destruction of both Death Stars, but the Rebels are a military insurgency winning big but used to battles. The Naboo Royal Starfighter Corps represent a peaceful world, and at least according to the Legends book Plagueis were only created a few years before the events of TPM. The worst they've had to contend with are pirates, they've never been in a battle before. They just kicked the Trade Federation's ass, after they took control of their planet and put their people into concentration camps. That's got to feel good. It'd be like Malta's tiny military kicking Amazon out of their country
Anakin went from driving a pod racer, to unexpectedly piloting a Naboo fighter and destroying their control ship, and becoming the Galaxy’s best Jedi pilot. He truly went from amateur to professional.
Gotta love how this entire attack would’ve completely failed if this 9 year old didn’t accidentally himself into everything and blowing up the entire ship
Not just the space battle. If Anakin hadn't destroyed those Droidekas,clearing the path for Padme's forces,the ground Invasion may have failed as well.
When we first met Anakin in this movie. He was just a little innocent kid who went from being a slave to a badass pilot who help & saved Naboo. But a decade later, in AOTC, things went from good to bad.
2:19 Well, we all know how that happened when he ended up losing the Battle of Yavin in A New Hope as Darth Vader. (Though here, he manually did it, while in A New Hope, Han was the one who caused him to spin out of control).
I just want to say those Naboo pilots are one of the bravest men I ever seen. They are probably facing one or the most devastating firepower and quantity disadvantages, and yet they are still trying their best to finish their mission, a big salute to them.
He grew up on Tatooine, a planet full of harsh deserts and even more harsh people. He's a tough kid to be sure, he's probably seen worse in the Pod Races.
What people don't realize that this right here already showed Anakin's rebellious streak that would be one of his major flaws throughout the trilogy. He wants to do the right thing even as Artoo and even the ship itself is telling him to go back

The early deathstar designs where actually made by the trade federation. In AOTC we also see these kinds of spheres without the ring around it. The connection is even there in-universe
Controversial take - this wasn't a bad movie. I was about 8-9 when this movie came out, my folks rented it from a corner store in my local small town and we got to watch it over a weekend and I became completely absorbed. Not long after we bought the cassette classic trilogy and the theatrical release film for PM when I was about 10 or 11. I'll still never get over this space battle, or the amazing sound of the Vulture Droids as they screech through the black skies above Naboo, easily picking off fighter craft that are clearly designed to be ornamental and not at all standard issue for highly militarized space combat. It really sucks that it took Disney's crap trilogy to highlight we didn't have it all that bad. I will miss this Star Wars.
Man, looking back on Episode 1, Jake Lloyd did a damn good job for his age. For how...well, intentionally stilted some of the prequel dialogue is, this whole scene really sells he knew how to work with what he had.
@@jussieronen3707 probably more then a bit. Like he subconsiously used the force. Atleast that is my interpertation, being consistent with Obi-Wan in ANH saying that he doesn't belief in luck. It turns the scene from goofy action into part of the greater story, and building up just how powerfull Anakin/Vader is

How on earth did the Last Jedi do better with the critics than this? Yes, Lucas wrote some pretty clunky dialogue, but there was genuine tension and foreboding whereas the sequels have nothing except cringe-worthy attempts at humour and dislikable characters. And look at space battles like this - you feel real euphoria when they blow the control ship up. Incredible!
Because in this movie stuff just happens and the characters lack motivations. Why is Anakin even there? Consider this: it would've been one thing if he'd stowed his way back to Naboo and joined the battle because he wanted to prove to the Jedi Council that he was worthy of being trained. But no, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon just bring a child to a warzone because the script needs him to (accidentally) blow up the droid control ship later.
I still think that all the star wars moviest before 7,8,9 had way more depth, better sounds, models and combat scenes both in space and land just felt somehow more "real" than new over CGIed movies.. just as this video, hearing the engine sounds of Naboo N1 is more convincig..

This is the last “real” space battle in Star Wars. As much as I love Rogue One, etc., nothing really comes close to capturing that feel of the original trilogy’s scenes set in space
You are 1000% correct. This is the last time I felt that phisicality of practical models and explosions that felt like OT. After this, no space battle comes even close. Rogue one CGI plaged is terrible compared.

@@KCCOmug To be fair, Anakin wanted to help Padme and her troops take out the Droidekas but accidentally activated the Naboo Starfighter to fly out. Besides, he did Pod Racing before and it was a dangerous sport where the racers die there.
@@KCCOmug First off, he didn't pilot the fighter the entire time. Most of the time it was on autopilot. Secondly have you watched the film more than once? Because it seems that you completely forgot about the podrace scene. Podracing is very similar to piloting a starfighter. So it's obvious Anakin has had some experience with piloting. So how exactly does this make him a Mary Sue?
You know, even though he is a kid in this, he really does have enormous amounts of skill. Especially for one of his age. I mean think about it, he was able to evade being shot in the middle of a heated battlefield and then when he was finally hit he was able to successfully land a crippled Starfighter into a crowded hanger without hitting anything. Say what you will but that takes a lot of skill
You know, as silly as it is, I can totally buy the fact Anakin didn't get immediately shot down and killed in this battle. The Naboo starfighter was put on autopilot, so it took him straight to the location the other fighters were gathered on the GPS and just began orbiting the control ship waiting for the next instruction. Because he was just flying in circles, not even the droids could predict what he was gonna do as this random other ship just barrelled recklessly into their formations and forced them all to break off from their attacks. Then when Anakin got out of auto pilot he started doing so much random and dangerous shit that the droid fighters chasing him still couldn't predict what the heck this rando newbie was gonna do- spinning randomly, doing barrel rolls and flying so close to the main ship that the fighters had to bank sharply just to keep up with him, which made me laugh.
Dude, she's 14 and he's 9 at the time. They didn't call in love each other until 10 years later. There's nothing in this film that hinted at Padmè being in love with Anakin
Too bad R2-D2 didn't take a hologram of Anakin when Anakin was nine and onward. Then he could have shown Luke what his father looked like before Anakin became Darth Vader.
Sometimes expanded lore goes way over board by trying to explain every single detail about evey single character but its not always the case. In this fight the small Naboo space force was going to get obliterated, they were counting on disabling the antena for the ground forces and fall back, they had one of the most powerful torpedo weapons, but the shields were uncommonly strong, they did not know that. Since the shields was that powerful interior defenses were not so much and Anakin unintencionally got his first kills.
