It's here! Space Drawing Perspective, volume 1 by Dongho Kim. Let's take a quick preview inside the book! This is my first time looking so this video isn't a review, but rather a quick look for those interested in purchasing the book. I have been tempted to purchase this, along with the Stonehouse anatomy book for a while now. I finally caved in and bought it. I am looking forward to reading through this one properly as I feel it will have a lot of value for artists at my level.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this book. I would like to give a shoutout to Liberdistri for the great job they did with shipping and packaging. It's always nice to get a book in perfect condition! Also I keep refering to anatomy instead of perspective and space in this video. Ignore my potato brain, thanks for watching :)

From what i see is a great book that, instead of making things over complicated like Scott Robertson books, keeps the languanje and maths very simple, logical, and minimalistic, which i think is the best way to approach perspective. Unless you are doing the final design template of an industrial design, you just need to keep some basic stuff in mind and you are good to go. And for that matter you don't need much more than what this book is teaching you.

That's actually a perfect way to describe this book! Thank you for the comment

Scott Robertson is more on the architectural side of drawing. That’s why it’s so complicated. If you like figure drawing more then space drawing book is good for you

It's an okay book. If you're looking to learn how to draw blocks. Being that blocks are mainly what you would use to construct the subject you want to draw. He doesn't go over how to actually draw objects or people just the plain simple rules of constructing boxes, cylinders, and spheres. He is suppose to be releasing a second book to the series. No sign of it being released anytime soon. I suggest looking into "modernday james" if you want to see videos of a similar approach.

Thank you for the information! I wonder what he will move onto in the second book, I haven't got through the full book yet to see exactly what he covers, but so far it's quite nice and simple to follow, which I quite like! I think this one is still pretty new, so I would imagine it will be a little while off for the second book, but you never know! Thanks for watching! P.s Modernday James RU-vid channel is great!

Well that's really all you need. Anything can be broken down into simple shapes and measured out, you should know this from moderndayjames. A lot of people miss the fact that you have to do this stuff on your own and any step by step instruction is just going to hinder you. You have to take the basic concepts show in books like this and play and experiment with them by doing A LOT of drawing.

@@NATA5II thank you bro, thank you. a lot of people want these guys to hold their hands but you’re supposed to take the knowledge and apply it to your own drawing and experiment!

I'm considering a few books to help me with my landscape architecture course at uni, I also love graphic novels and this looks really nicely broken down and freindly.. I think my teenager will be inspired to have a go too.. I'm gonna get it, cheers mate!

Thanks for watching, yeah perspective can get boring and tedious, this one I found a little easier to read without it getting too technical so it's definitely a good place to start! :)

Thanks for letting me know, I just checked the UK amazon and the reviews are terrible and pictures show an almost.. fake looking copy with a different finish and size to the cover. Quite strange really, hopefully they get that sorted soon, I haven't checked the US amazon though hopefully that's the proper one! Thanks for watching

@@SketchedbySte Yeah! I unfortunately was one of the people who bought it. I've since refunded and ordered a copy from Superani (which is legit). USA's one is the same I believe.

I bought and currently studying the book, its simple but useful. I can see it to also be used as a quick reference. Which perspective books you consider are the best?

If you have the character design by him, is it good?

Unfortunately I haven't managed to find the character design book by Dongo Kim here in the UK yet, but I have been tempted to order it online still ( hefty shipping! ) would I be right in thinking it's only in Korean currently?

@@SketchedbySte Yup Korean imports will always be in Hangul/Korean by default! Don't think there will be an English translation for a little bit, but I can read both Hangul and English

@@ll1ain0 Oh fantastic, my tiny brain can only just manage english ;) I am going to email a few companies to see if there is any chance of them bringing this one to english, you don't see much of it in terms of preview etc, as you mentioned, so I would be very interested in seeing what's included / the illustrations too. No doubt I will end up just buying this copy soon XD

@@ll1ain0 Haha you're probably not wrong, I might see if I can shop around for it, see what price I can get it! Oh yes I understand that feeling very well, I definitely have an art book addiction. I decided a month ago I would start writing down how much I have been spending each month on art books, and I shocked myself, told myself I would not be buying any more for a little while - I am ashamed to admit I have spent a small fortune since then buying tons of books :O

Thank you for the comment, yes compared to other perspective books I would agree that there isn't tons of information in here, more of a starting point, with some good information ( I guess that's why it's only Vol 1, so more info can be released in the future?) That being said I do think the info is good and laid out in a really easy to understand way, almost bite sized chunks, for simple minds such as myself haha. I also found it a little more engaging / interesting to read then most perspective books because of this. I do agree that the thickness of the book is a little misleading though in that sense! Thanks for watching!
