I asked Mr Lowe at Dragoncon how much he remembers and he told me it’s basically all a blur. He also greeted me to the booth with “are you one of those kids whose sense of humor I warped?”
If this is what having a warped sense of humor is, then I'd hate to be a normal person. I got more amusement at watching Space Ghost stalk a fire ant for 10 minutes then an entire season of some popular modern "comedies".
@@falsehero2001 some people might downplay this joke for its poor visual quality, but the idea is undoubtedly pure genius, either you marry the idea that following an ant is more interesting than hearing Conan (or any guest) talk, or you just won't get half the joke, just following the ant without the set up is just not as funny if you get hooked, the screenplay and Lowe's intervention is just as funny as any fun modern comedy, I'm not too much into TV but I had say "The office" has bits as good as this one, very high chances producers or screenwriters liked this show too, Michael Scott gives me high Space Ghost vibes as a character, Dwight easily could be Zorak or Moltar
I once asked George Lowe how long this sequence went on in-studio. He said "On Fire Ant, I think I 'doo dee doo'd' roughly 15 minutes. I was young then."
The whole episode wreaks of Conan's help in the writing room to be like, "Ok, so what can we do that's simple for everyone, wrap up in 15 minutes to an hour of work, and then knock-off early for the weekend?" Lowe "doo-dee-doo's" for 15 minutes Everybody else does their lines The animators make Space Ghost chase an invisible thing across a bunch of pre made backgrounds for a few visual gags Miller time
Table Read aired before this and basically is a rought cut of what this episode would be like. Conan is played by someone from William's Street, and Dave Willis is shirtless. They don't mention that ant section, so maybe they gave George a six pack and told him to wing it and that it will be cool.
The show was widely popular among insomniacs and stoners. Imagine being fatigued, drunk or high and waking up the next morning and asking yourself "was that real?" I was sick with a 102 fever when I first saw this and had been sucking down nyquil and hot totties. I thought it was an alcohol induced fever dream for a few days until I went online and asked around.
I was legitimately mad when I bought the entire series on Apple TV that they cut this part out. It’s just the short version. Every time I watch it I have to cut it short and watch this instead.
Some of the funniest stuff on this show was when they were able to get pretty well-known people like Conan on and then just use 45 seconds of them and piss the rest of the episode off. God I miss television like this
You know this was a product of Conan's help in the writers room, and the whole thing screams, too me Conan: "What can we do to get everyone done in 15 minutes to an hour of work, and knock-off for the weekend? _I won't tell if _*_YOU_*_ won't!"_ You would be surprised how often laziness pays off in creativity (if not quality) Let's face it, this is (otherwise) an ADD/ADHD test
Almost as incredible as this being allowed to air on Cartoon Network was the fact that the whole episode, this whole sequence and the Conan interview beforehand, aired fully uninterrupted, commercial-free. As did the "long version" of Warren, which was fully even longer than Fire Ant!
I love how he passes by the Sealab 2021 Base. Thats why I love William Street shows so much, they are all connected to each other, in the same universe and do cross-overs from time to time.
@@ratking9577 likely just because they had access to the backlog of Hanna Barbera cartoons and Mike Lazzo has stated Sealab 2020 is the worst cartoon ever. Wouldnt put it past the staff to throw it in for the fuck of it.
@@nankinink Yes, but that was the original 70s version. Im talking about how all the parody remakes of Hannah Barbara shows do crossovers…Search up “Adult Swim New Years Eve Party 2003” and youll see what im talking about.
This was the only episode of Space Ghost that I got to watch with my dad. I remember very clearly him watching the entire thing with me…and being fairly amused (if not a little confused).
This was the first episode I ever saw as a kid. I was very confused since I saw it from the middle. It made me wonder if all the adult swim shows were this strange and mysterious. Coming back decades later, it was both with a touch of insanity. I love every moment of it!
I can't believe this was ever a cartoon network show. CN is so mainstream now that it feels like they could never put something like this out to children of all people.
This is the only segment of this show I ever saw. I didn't remember any of the surrounding details, but "I'm gonna follow him home. Kill his whole family" has lived rent-free in my head for over a decade.
Anyone out here watching the full Fire ant experience and come from the 30th anniversary stream? They air the cut version Enjoy the full ant goodness 🐜
True story: I had a second date, and we were just chilling on the couch after, well, you know, and we were flipping through channels. "Oh, cool, ever watch 'Space Ghost'?" I asked. "It's hilarious! It's crazy!" I promised. It was this episode. There was not a third date. This is still hilarious, though.
I now believe god made the universe with all it’s good and misery just so you could have that moment on a second date 😂😂😂 I cannot think of a funnier scenario 😂😂😂
First time watching this. As a kid, never got into Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. Now as a man who listens while he works and have patience, I now say, “Worth it.”
My favourite part of that film is when they finally reach the threshold to the room they’ve been musing about for the last two hours, only to sit down and say “Wait! There’s no rush.” I watched it with some buddies who had this movie roulette thing going on, and that part got a good laugh out of us, though I don’t think that was meant to be a joke. I’m probably missing something, but that movie was such navel-gazing tripe, IMO. It’s not that I’m averse to philosophy, but I think a movie should tell a story that provokes the viewer to philosophise. To have some characters we barely know just walk around delivering half-baked filibusters for 3 hours just felt pretentious and a bit manipulative.
Whenever this show came on when I was a kid I just sorta heard them talking and making noise and eventually changed the channel until something I knew came on. Now I watch this and see I needed it to age like a fine wine and allow it to ripen fully, so I could enjoy those beautiful two seconds at 11:10 and hear "YOUR SON isamoron" as spaceghost fades away running stupidly fast. I love everything about this show, the voices and so on. Brings me so much joy.
I wonder if this wasn't a deliberate attempt to see just exactly how long they could yank the audiences' collective chains without lising share numbers.
I can't believe how funny this scene is. It conveys a wide range of emotions. Ranging from such thoughts such as "How is this still going?!" and "Is this really what this skit is" to such joy such as "lmfao what the f its STILL going" "omg STILL, he's gonna- yes! yes he's walking upside down! HES STILL GOING!" lmfao
I remember being compelled to watch this all the way through. Without interruption. I was sure something.. ANYTHING would happen. Those 10 minutes of life force.. gone forever.
