ABOUT M.G. LORD
M.G. Lord is the author of Astro Turf, a family memoir about Cold War aerospace culture, for which she was awarded an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation science-writing grant. She is the host of LA Made: Blood, Sweat & Rockets, a podcast from LAist Studios.
Lord is also the author of Forever Barbie: The Unauthorized Biography of a Real Doll and The Accidental Feminist: How Elizabeth Taylor Raised Our Consciousness and We Were Too Distracted by Her Beauty to Notice, which won the Los Angeles Press Club Award for best book on entertainment in 2012. Lord participated in two recent documentaries about the Barbie doll, "The Toys that Made Us" (Netflix) and "Tiny Shoulders" (Hulu). Since 1995, she has been a frequent contributor to the New York Times Book Review. Her work has appeared in numerous publications, including Discover, Travel + Leisure, Vogue, the Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, the Los Angeles Times, and The Hollywood Reporter. Immediately after graduating from Yale, Lord was for twelve years a syndicated political cartoonist based at Newsday. She is an associate professor of the practice of English at the University of Southern California.
