What results of the marriage between science and football? Sports science researcher Pedro Passos explains how data science, physics and algorithms can help us understand the landscapes of possibilities of passing in football, and how time and space influence what happens within the 4 lines.
Pedro Passos is a Professor at Faculdade de Motricidade Humana, Universidade de Lisboa, where he teaches Motor Control and Learning. He graduated in Physical Education and Sports in 1995, took the MSc degree in Sport Psychology in 1999 and the PhD in Sport Sciences in 2008. He has several international peer-reviewed publications, books and chapters in books. His research interests are in the area of motor coordination at an intra and interpersonal level of analysis, where currently he is developing research projects related with the landscapes of possibilities of passing in football, and also with synergies formation in the course of an action.
