Also, the “Dink Dink” March was a WWII song called “Colonel Bogey March”, which was whistled in the classic WWII movie “Bridge Over The River Kwai”. It was also used as a British propaganda parody during WWII called “Hitler Has Only Got One Ball”, notably used in the Amazon series “The Man In The High Castle”. “Hitler has only got one ball Göring has two but very small Himmler has something similar But poor old Goebbles has no balls at all”

Those little guys in the robes that rescued them in the desert were a parody of the Star Wars creatures called Jawas. And it wasn't any Disney song they were whistling. That song's called "Colonel Bogey March", and it was written in 1914 by a British Army Lieutenant. It's been used in movies again and again over the years, mostly war or military movies. But the kids in "The Breakfast Club" did whistle it together in the library.

Who of course Mel Brooks had already referenced to in his first movie 'The Producers' in 1968 - the scene where they're looking for the worst play ever written, and Max Bialystock reads aloud "Gregor Samsa awoke one morning to discover he had been transformed into a giant cockroach" then says "It's too good." That was my introduction to Metamorphosis. Luckily they reuse that joke in the 2000s musical and movie musical. Apparently in the directors commentary for 'Spaceballs', when they get up to the 'Ready Kafka?' Mel comments 'Why did I write that joke? That's a bad joke."

I am so glad you did this one! It truly is one of the funniest parody movies ever! Mel Brooks is a comic genius! -when Brooks pitched the idea to George Lucas to get his permission, Lucas absolutely loved it and gave him his blessing. Provided they did no merchandising -Rick Moranis is another great comedic actor! In fact, the scene where Dark Helmet is playing with his dolls was completely improvised by him. Sadly his wife passed away from cancer and he retired from acting to be a full time dad for his kids -as others have pointed out, the diner scene is another spoof of Alien. In fact, it’s the same actor John Hurt who gets the alien explode from his stomach. The fact that the alien sings like Michigan J Frog from Looney Tunes makes it even funnier!

One fact I love to share about the movie.....Mel Brooks mentions in the director's cut that the whole short scene with the "Mr. Coffee" machine was a way for him to incorporate styrofoam cups into the movie. In many of the movies he made before.....he'd have to reshoot whole scenes because cast or crew would love a cup lying around....so with the scene early in the movie he didn't have to worry about reshooting anything if someone left a cup lying around.

Love this movie, always makes me laugh. Voice of the Female robot Called Dot is comedian Joan Rivers R.I.P. Joan. Yes the dog like character is The Great John Candy. The guy with him is the actor Bill Pullman who played the president in Independence Day movie. Actually guys I still have VHS movies and a player that still works. Amber the who's on first sketch was Abbott and Costello. The alien that came out of that guys chest in the diner its a Alien movie reference, the first one, that actor was the actual actor fromt the Alien movie John Hurt. Check the first Alien out and you'll get that reference guys. The vadar landed in the head, its a reference to planet of the apes movie.

Might have already been mentioned, but a couple of the references you might have missed. "Prince Valium" is a joke on an old newspaper comic called "Prince Valiant" and the drug valium. And the alien that came out of the guy is a reference to the movie "Alien". Watch "Alien" if you want the ultimate sci-fi horror film.
@ragabashmoon1551

Well also it was a common thing back in the day to say that a woman was "sleeping with Prince Valium" as at the time valium was prescribed to women a lot more than men.

Mel Brooks is the one who was beamed back to the bridge with his butt in the front. Rick Moranus who played Dark Helmet is an extremely funny actor. He was in a lot of goofy movies. I really liked him in Ghostbusters and so many other films. I think he was also in Revenge of the Nerds. Bill Murray was in Ghostbusters as well. The thing that came out of the guys stomach in the diner was from Aliens. Mel Brooks movies are pretty hysterical.

Also, I forgot to mention that the last scene where the Spaceballs come out of mega maids nose is actually from the original movie called Planet of the Apes in which an astronaut gets lost in space and land on a planet, where the apes rule and human beings are basically caged animals. The last scene of that movie is the human astronaut, played brilliantly by Charlton Heston, Rides on the beach and comes to what used to be the Statue of Liberty, and he realizes that he is on the earth just in a different reality. That’s a fantastic movie too.

I would recommend two movies by Alex Proyas. “The Crow” is a fantastic film (though it sadly took the life of its lead actor (Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee)). It’s a supernatural revenge film, basically. Dark and gritty. “Dark City” is a dark science fiction film which is so damned good - it is criminally underrated.
@NWRefund
@NWRefund 8 месяцев назад
Also, I would recommend an OLD movie with Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn called “Charade.” So good.

The dancing alien in the diner is a send-up of the movie Alien which you must react to one day. And yes the apes at the end were referring to the original Planet of the Apes (1968) movie which is another one you must do in the future. Both movies are brilliant!

As someone else mentioned,the diner scene towards the end is spoofing the movie Alien. The guy that had the alien pop out of his chest was the actor in the movie Alien, which is why he said "Not again." And I find that to be the funnies scene in the movie! Also, the scene where Dark Helmet and company landed on the beach and the monkey guy rode up is spoofing Planet of the Apes. I love this movie and I can literally recite it verbatim from beginning to end. So glad you got around to this one.

The Twins at about 9:30 are Dian and Denise Gallup. They were the "Doublemint Twins" for a long time. Wrigley's Doublemint gum had always featured twins in their ads. They were parodying themselves therefore, hence why he says "Chew your gum" to them.

I'm shocked that J doesn't know Who's on First (it's Abbott and Costello)!! You need to show it to him. A few things about the movie: Lonestar is dressed like Indiana Jones Yes, Valium is a tranquilizer hence the Prince being so sleepy. And J is right, there was a frog on Looney Toons that did the top hat a and cane song and dance. Once you watch the Alien movies and the Planet of the Apes movies, you'll get the references.

First of all thanks so much for all your reactions, and for all your hard work. Your videos always show how much effort you put in. Now just FYI: the last scene that you saw where the creature came out of the guys chest? That was from the movie Alien (the first one). And the guy that it happened to in Spaceballs, his name is John Hurt, he is the guy that it happened to an Alien also. There are so many references to great sci-fi movies. Mel Brooks is the master of these kind of spoof movies. He makes them so well so tongue-in-cheek, so sarcastic, and so hilariously funny. Now you’ve got to review his movie Robin Hood: Men In Tights (guess what that’s a spoof of? LOL!). It is really very funny. Thanks again for all your hard work. I’ve been a subscriber of yours since I first saw your reaction a year ago! 😊👍🙏
