Aw, back in the days when there were only Phantom Menace, Batman & Robin, and Odd Numbered Star Trek Sequels for nerds to bitch about. Nowadays, there's flame war every month for every fandom. What the hell happened?
And Attack of the Clones was the Rise of Skywalker… Force Awakens and Revenge of the Sith share a connection because they were arguably the most well received in their respective trilogies.
I wasn't alive when it came out, so I only came to realize about the prequel hate thanks through the internet, which is rare, those were my first Star Wars movies and I don't regret it, made me the fan that I am today. As for The Last Jedi, I didn't hate it initally, but I could see things that bugged many people, in retrospective, it really insults the lore and legacy of Star Wars, which the prequels didn't, it expanded the lore way more, influenced new external material like games and Clone Wars.
@@medalion1390 Force Awakens was a decent blockbuster adventure that just happened to be too influenced by A New Hope as well as Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, I remember when video comparisons came at the time. But The Rise of Skywalker is already the worst Star Wars, looks visually great but the story is shit, Attack of the Clones, while being the weakest of the prequels, still gave us Obi-Wan investigating the roots of what would lead to The Clone Wars, that final act in Geonosis, also Anakin searching for his mother and meeting the Lars.
What makes me sad is how now that kids generation is doing the exact same thing to the kids who like the sequels without a shred of irony. Please, break the cycle! You don’t have to like the sequels, just don’t go to the dark side yourself.
I mean... the Phantom Menace eventually is exonerated by The Clone Wars animated series. So maybe something eventually will come along to exonerate the sequel trilogy. But they are not wrong in their disappointment. It was broken; it got fixed and then it got broken again.
Imagine if Biblo said this? Bilbo: I once punched a guy in the face for saying Force Awakens was shit. Tim: Good for you. Biblo: Thanks but that's not the point, Tim. The point is I was defending the film with terminal ententity when what I should have said was, "Dude, you're right, but let's give the Ghostbusters reboot a try and we'll discuss it later."
Added more to the universe? Yes. Bold new story? Not from perspective. The story was a mess of pointless subplots, wooden acting, and a lack of characterization. The only "story" that seemed to go anywhere was Anakin's arc in Revenge of the Sith. Otherwise, everything was interchangeable, and the romance was probably the most awkwardly written until YA adaptations came along. If you liked the prequels, that's fine. But don't pretend the rest of the world has to agree with you.
***** Perspective is subjective and has no bearing on a discussion concerning objectivity. Does the story exist and is it explained? Yes. Does it have a concrete beginning, middle, and end? Yes. Does the story present new things and ideas and go in a direction not yet traveled? Yes. Whether _you_ like it or not is irrelevant. _The story was a mess of pointless subplots._ Subjective. _Wooden acting and lack of characterization._ Baseless accusations easily proved false by citing dialogue and hearing/seeing its delivery. People are entitled to their opinions - you can like or dislike anything you want in a movie. Your opinion, however, does not dictate a film's quality, especially where falsehoods and misrepresentations are concerned.
If you can listen to/watch the dialogue and their delivery in the prequels and honestly tell me that it's not complete rubbish, you're just delusional. "Baseless accusations" - actually no, it's based on objectively lazy, shoddy writing and uninvolved or wooden acting. Just like "a mess of pointless subplots" it's not subjective, you look at it from a writing/filmmaking standpoint and conclude that it is pointless, horribly written and directed shite. Now, if you enjoyed it regardless, that's fine and THAT is subjective, but don't defend shit movies like this by saying "pointless subplots" and "lack of characterization" are subjective or baseless, you just look like a fool.
Hans Ollo "Your opinion, however, does not dictate a film's quality, especially where falsehoods and misrepresentations are concerned." Did I say my opinion dictated the movie? Did I say you HAVE to agree with me. Because I'm pretty sure I didn't. And yet, you're ranting like a child and getting angry because I don't like the same movie you don't like. A matter of fact, a lot of people don't. Get used to it, buddy.
free to watch on hulu, it is amazing. simon pegg and nick frost doing a TV show together, you'll also see a lot of familiar faces from the cornetto trilogy. Brian(Mark heap) and Marsha (Julia Deakin) and tyres (Micheal smiley) all made cameos in worlds in, Pete (Peter Serafinowicz ) from Shaun of the dead and Bill baily who played the twins in Hot Fuzz. and If you like this you should check out black's books and green wing, Brian heap is hilarious in green wing and Bill baily and
I mean you get the sense that older Star Wars fans have collectively forgotten how the prequels ruined Star Wars and shoved the blame onto Disney. The Clone Wars might have done too good a job exploring prequel-era stories.
@@hermos3602 Poor dialogue, wooden acting, dull stories with forced humor, bad stereotypes and an unsatisfactory rationale for what made Anakin turn to the dark side. Only Revenge of the Sith got close to what George Lucas wanted to do but by then the emotional investment felt contrived. TCW actually made the characters, motivations and events that slowly consolidated Palpatine’s power and Anakin’s anger feel genuine.
And now Star Wars fans have gone full fledged revisionist on the prequels. We. Were. There. I was one of those kids who liked the prequels. Still do. I like the sequels as well. Besides this scene (and one in the US sitcom, Community), you all made a documentary (People vs George Lucas) on how much he and the prequels sucked. Ewan McGregor even admitted the reception wasn't great.
"The Phantom Menace was eighteen months ago!" If he only knew that 16 years later, there's still some sad individuals clinging to their hate of a film about space wizards slapping laser swords together as if it happened yesterday.
The best part? Prequel haters actually keep the prequels alive and fresh with all the hate they have for them. Gives us Prequel Lovers less work to do!
That’s cuz most of you are delusional enough to think the Prequels are perfect the way they are. You’re all idiots. I’m a prequel fan too but I acknowledge the flaws in the prequels not just blindly follow them like their gospel.
he is right tho, idk why he got hate/backlash for this... Jar Jar is down there with Leia and 3PO, R2-D2 carried the whole "side character" part of saga on its back [honourable mention to Chewbacca in original trilogy]
Simon Pegg calling Star Wars fans toxic is such a joke. Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. He said in the Spaced commentary, that he hated Phantom Menace. Really hated it. So it wasn't just his character. He did write it and believed it so.
@TheCosmicNemesis I know this. I remember, but he made comments about Star Wars fans doing the same thing with the newer films. Its just Pegg being a hypocrite that is all.
But it's just a movie...a series of movies that really, in the grand scheme of things, shouldn't be taken seriously. I like Star Wars a whole shit load just like the next guy or gal, but it will be forgotten. Prequels were like "eh" but shit cmon they're just movies. Your life & my life & everyone's lives will go on.
Kind of ridiculous behaviour of Simon Pegg to go around and complaining about the Star Wars prequels and then goes on being in a Star Trek reboot. Don't gte me wrong I still like Simon Pegg and I still like the prequels and Star Trek movies myself. But I am sure there are upset trekkies out there too.
People are allowed to like stuff. If you measure people's intelligence by them liking the Star Wars prequels or not then you are the real idiot here. I haven't played Call of Duty but I do think Advanced Warfare looks rather good.
hal0spartanii7dn The new star trek was 1000x better than episode 1-3, so idk what your point is. Pegg's issue is that 1-3 are incredibly bad, not that they rebooted the series.
+hal0spartanii7dn Just to break it to you Simon Pegg has no respect for anyone who likes the Star Wars prequels which he apparently considers a kin to infanticide. He can hold the opinions he wants, but someone like him really shouldn't be actively involved in a franchise where he disrespects half the fanbase and it's marketable material.
+ShamanMcLamie And then he says "fuck you" to to die-hard Trekkies pissed-off about "Into Darkness" being a horrible remake of what Trekkies consider to be their "The Empire Strikes Back"= "Wrath of Khan"? That is the purest fucking example of a hypocrite I've ever seen a fanboy-celebrity commit.
