SpaceX Big Slap to ULA CEO About "Partially assembled" Raptor 3 engine!
There's no time to wait-exciting developments are on the horizon.
Starship hardware is in the final stages of preparation, ready to overcome the last obstacles on its path to Flight 5.
Recently, Elon Musk and Gwynne Shotwell responded to ULA CEO Tory Bruno’s critical remarks about the Raptor 3 release, drawing attention across the industry.
Additionally, Rocket Lab has tested a new engine for its forthcoming reusable rocket, signaling its readiness to compete in the rapidly evolving space race.
With a wealth of intriguing updates to explore today, let’s get started.
SpaceX Big Slap to ULA CEO About "Partially assembled" Raptor 3 engine!
The countdown to the fifth integrated flight of Starship is in its final weeks, with anticipation building for the missions ahead.
SpaceX has been diligently preparing for this significant event. Recently, the company shared a tweet on X featuring images of the two critical components for the flight: S30 and B11. The accompanying message was clear: "Flight 5 Starship and Super Heavy are ready to fly, pending regulatory approval."
Following the static fire on July 26, S30 was brought back to the Production Site for thorough checks on its engine system and heat shield. After a brief stint at the Rocket Garden for additional checks, it was moved to Mega Bay 2. One notable update to S30 was the installation of a new Raptor Vacuum engine.
SpaceX Big Slap to ULA CEO About "Partially assembled" Raptor 3 engine!
After the engine replacement, S30 was transferred to Massey. Initially, it seemed another static fire test was on the horizon, but SpaceX opted for a spin prime test instead, indicating confidence in the new engine's reliability. With these steps completed, S30 is fully prepared for the upcoming flight.
Regarding B11, following the static fire test on July 15, it was returned to Mega Bay. Recently, the hot-staging ring for B12 has emerged, indicating that it is ready to be assembled onto the booster.
With these preparations in place, both S30 and B11 are poised for the next phase. They are expected to proceed to the Launch Pad for Wet Dress Rehearsal, likely within the next two weeks. The subsequent steps will be expedited in preparation for a potential launch in early September.
However, everything is contingent on FAA approval. While the FAA is not investigating the recent mishap, they may be evaluating a proposal for catching the booster with the Mechazilla Arm, which could extend the timeline. We anticipate an update on the license approval soon.
In the tweet mentioned, SpaceX also noted: “Additional booster catch testing and Flight 6 vehicle testing is planned while waiting for clearance to fly.”

Space X isnt the one he should be worrying about now. They are too far ahead to catch back up for ULA. What Tory needs to worry about is the younger US rocket companies who are making their own launch vehicles that actually share the same market space with Vulcan@@laserjock509
@THX..1138
@THX..1138 Месяц назад
@@laserjock509 Pressure?...Yeah I'll say....When Bruno took over ULA he had to develop Centaur to satisfy Federal requirements they use American made engines. When he did he made the miscalculation that Falcon9 or at least Falcon9 reusability would fail and what would come to be known as Starship could never ever happen. So he built a rocket that would be the best in a world where F9 and Starship didn't exist. Now here we are 10 years later F9 built for 10 reuses is looking more like it will last 100 reuses. SpaceX is turning around boosters in as little as 48 hours. Starship and it's booster that are being built to fly multiple times a day just made successful water landings. Now SpaceX is showing off their new engine that looks like aliens built it🙄 I think Bruno is a good guy who ran his company well, but he's building the world's best horse drawn carriage and SpaceX is building the Ford F150 and showing off his new Small-Block V8.

Is that really true? Surely it is cheaper to rideshare on one of SpaceX other launches than sending up a single rocket, no matter how small and effective it is. I saw another video saying the main selling point is the quick call-up launches RocketLabs are doing? So, SpaceX is still more attractive for small payloads if companies can wait for a slot, and those who can pay the extra money for a quicker launch call-up choose RocketLabs, so "take over" with a disclaimer, SpaceX will still do alot of small payloads as ridesharing for non time sensitive launches

ULA doesn't seem to understand that innovation (i.e building awesome) means putting engineers above management in the organizational structure. Having good engineers who "tell" management what "needs" to be done, as opposed to engineers who simply take orders from management. If you give power to management nothing ever gets fully completed, as soon as it's "good enough to sell" the engineers are told to stop working on it and instructed to work on a new project. Management should support engineers doing engineering but all to often management try to take control of engineering and make engineering decisions.

After watching Tim's recent Blue Origin New Glenn facility tour video, being reminded of Starship's production cadence really puts the asperations into perspective a little. Both are massive and awesome rockets, but whereas BO is building a rocket, SpaceX really have built up a rocket factory. I hope both succeed, but it's obvious that SpaceX will come out on top for launched mass per year capability. NASA won't be looking so hard at Blue Origin when they need a mission-specific modification for a super heavy launch vehicle.

It is only good engineering if you CAN NOT REMOVE ANYTHING ANYMORE. Someone should tell ULA.

I like how spaceX is most open book company compared to other secretive competitors, yet they're all far behind now...

SpaceX is years ahead of any real competition. I don't see how their competitors can catch up at this point.

it seems the chinese have a better chance of catching up than ula or blue origin

As soon as it is ready, Elon should definitely have the honor of becoming a testpilot for the first launch.

I was thinking that eventually Falcon 9 could be replaced with a rocket the uses Raptor engines. Starship is like a “Semi truck” for carrying large cargo. There are launches that only require a “pickup”. SpaceX could have two rockets using the same engines.

So how about Merlin engines?
@PanioloBee
@PanioloBee 25 дней назад
@@colonbina1 Keeping the Merlin engines would require two production lines to support as well as multiple engineering departments. Having one series of Raptors could allow SpaceX to streamline his production and reduce launch costs even further.Elon could sell Merlin engines on the open market but I doubt he would.
