SpaceX Starlink Internet Full Install - No Ethernet Port Life Hack - Underserviced Rural Area (4K)

It's time to get out of the stone age. This is the full unboxing, install, testing, and life hack for the SpaceX Starlink satellite internet. SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk has brought forward something truly life changing for this underserviced rural area. Rumors of Elon Musk being behind Stark Industries are greatly exaggerated. Get ready for the arrival, the unboxing, the install, setup and implementation of a first class internet service. The new Starlink router does not come with an ethernet port, it operates out of the box via wi-fi. We will test the speeds and figure out the best life hack possible for hooking into your existing network without having an ethernet port. Starlink does sell an in-line ethernet adapter for $25, but unfortunately, shipping times for me are weeks out. Something has to get done so I can use this service on my property as I intended! Through this we will take a close look at the old Hughes Net satellite internet for the last time, and then cancel that so called service!
If you like Starlink, SpaceX, Elon Musk, Tesla, satellite internet, addshot, or the plight of the rural internet user, you will love this video! : D

Congrats on the success. We live in an area where we can only get DSL. It's terrible. 1.3Mps Upload, up to 25Mps download. Paying almost $200 a month for this along with a landline. I am on the waiting list for Starlink.

I also had to purchase the adapter so that I can connect my own TP link router. I then connected two TP-link CPE510, 5GHz 300Mbps 13dBi Outdoor CPE to share the Starlink internet to my daughters house one street down and it is working like a charm. I also descativated the Starlink wifi since I am using my TP link router which I connected using the ethernet port. My only complain is that this version with the flat dish did not come with the ethernet port on the router and the previous version with the round dish did.
@addshot
@addshot 2 года назад
I do not like the fact that the new router has no Ethernet port. But, if I were to guess, I think people like us are in short supply, and we might now be outnumbered in this wireless world. The router costs less to produce with no Ethernet port, so the benefit is to Starlink. Our needs as wired network users are met with additional cost. At least there is an adapter, and the service is, for the most part, stable and reliable. Glad you saw this one! 😎👍👍

@@futurecactus That sounds like something I could use right there! My best guess is that the Starlink router has top shelf wi-fi capabilities and I am using the latest cell phone. That combination is the sweet spot for the wi-fi speeds. The Ethernet slow down is from my slow wireless router or a distance issue.
@midiaz1319
@midiaz1319 2 года назад
Yep, you used your old router as a repeater. I tried to do the same but my router did not have this option so I had to by another router, or a small wifi repeater. I ended up buying the Starlink ethernet port adapter, then used my own router and then disabled the Starlink wifi. Did not have to disable the Starlinks wifi but since I was using my own router did not want any unwanted wifi signals in my house.

We’ve got 5mbps WISP but was hoping for consistently faster download speeds from Starlink. Did you get the adapter and how is Starlink working out? Cheers!
@addshot
@addshot 2 года назад
The Starlink is working out great! I have received my adapter and I no longer need to rig up the legacy laptop. I have everything hooked into my existing network. I receive a steady 75-95 mbps down and 5-15 mbps up. For some reason when I connect via WI-FI to the Starlink router directly I get even faster speeds than my wired connections. It is something I have to look into further. Thanks so much!

@@addshot Glad to hear it’s working great for you. I read that using the adapter with your own produced higher speeds than with the Starlink router. It’s now available in my area and we’re thinking of taking a chance and ordering SL, even with the steep equipment fee. Did you really receive a used or refurbished dish? Appreciate the information!
@addshot
@addshot 2 года назад
@@archstanton9703 the equipment fee was on par with the old satellite internet system. I have my regular network, and I have my Starlink putting out it’s own wireless network. When I wirelessly connect to the Starlink I get the fastest speeds. I would like to do a follow up video on this with more testing. My Starlink equipment seemed new, but the cables were connected to the router when I opened the box. It works so good, I’m not even going to question it. 😂 In my situation, I didn’t hesitate a moment and ordered the day it was announced. 👍🙌💯

Since, I have the ethernet adapter, I can tell ;you that it works great, My Starlink ethernet is plugged in to my network router and feeds the entire netwark, the speeds I am getting on networked computers are in the 40 Mbps or more range for all of the computers except for a very slow laptop (laptop is connected via WiFi.) WiFi from the network router. As a side note, my home network is 1Gbps and has its own WiFi network.
@addshot

😃The Ethernet adapter is great! On a close wired network connection speeds are very fast upwards of 180 mbs at times. My wired hubs are 1GB, but all my Wi-Fi points are not. They’re a bit outdated and a Wi-Fi upgrade is due around here. Very happy with everything overall, it does work great!

Very thorough install/demo video, but you mentioned you only care about streaming services, so that is the download (which is why it is the larger number on asymmetric services), and upload is the one you would care less about if you're not sending much data like streaming cameras.

So, basically, you are using the old laptop like a wifi-repeater? Interesting. Does your mesh router have LAN ports? Can you connect a VOIP phone? If so, could you chuck the cell phone and use a VOIP phone like a land line (at least when you are at home)? What is the range of your mesh router? Are you getting the wifi off the mesh router or the Starlink router down at the other location? You didn't make that clear or at least I didn't pick up on which you were using. Is the 'dish' heavy enough to just place on the ground without being anchored? Would wind move it? Wish someone would do a more detailed and comprehensive install. Does the dish adjust itself if it moves or settles where you install it (I'm talking about ground install)?
@addshot
@addshot Год назад
Yes, the old laptop used to accept the Wi-Fi signal from the Starlink router and then share that internet through its ethernet port. My existing network worked fine plugging in this way until I received my Starlink Ethernet adaptor. It is strange that the Starlink router has no built in ethernet port. VOIP would likely work perfectly with Starlink. I do not use the Wi-Fi built into the Starlink router, although it is blazing fast. I use my own routers that mesh and bridge together for Wi-Fi. All external buildings here are hard wired. The dish is not very heavy at all and would likely blow over under high winds. I recommend anchoring the satellite down. The dish will adjust it self if it is placed within 5 degrees of level. This system is exactly what the satellite internet community needed. Thanks so much for watching my video! All the best to you!
@MrCarl312
@MrCarl312 2 года назад
One of the things you have to check in your ethernet system is the speed of all your pieces there are a lot of old 10/100 Mbps switches and hubs around, you want all of your ethernet network at 1Gbs to do good sharing.
@addshot
@addshot 2 года назад
I am jumping through 4 hubs in one setup with quite some distance. Hubs are all relatively new 1GB hubs and all wires are cat6 or 6A. I can’t seem to get more than 100mbs down with Starlink service at that distance. A closer cat6 connection gets average 180 mbs down. My needs are met, but something is slowing things at distance. More testing needed, on the list of to do’s. Thanks Mr Carl!
@MrCarl312
@MrCarl312 2 года назад
@@addshot I don't why you get so much slow down over a wired network Cat 6 wire will insure the best speed. However the max distance for Cat 6 or Cat 5E wire is 100 meters(328 feet). You would need boosters or switches in between. Switches are better than hubs.
@addshot
@addshot 2 года назад
@@MrCarl312 This long run I have is longer than 100m, and I do have 4 powered 1GB switches. I’m showing a 1GB connection, but for some reason the Starlink is a bit slower on the download in this area. I need another dedicated day of testing! 😆🤓🙂
