Fantastic video and awesome scenery! Really loved the factoids too, Spain having the world's third largest motorway system is an absolutely crazy achievement considering its so much smaller than the US or China.

Spain has some incredible transportation infrastructure. In addition to the extensive expressway network, Spain has the second most high speed rail track in the world, behind only China. As for the exits to nowhere, I've seen a few of those in the western half of the United States. The directional sign usually lists a road name and often will have a sign underneath saying "no services".

There is also the section between Caudete (Castilla la Mancha) and Font de la Figuera (Valencia) more now that they have completed the Caudete bypass. It would be incredible if on another occasion you made your way through there, as well as the A-35 to Alcudia de Crespins. Good video

This is an excellent road I drive from A30 jcn to Yecla regular, very quick route from Murcia, never saw it busy, It's always quiet pothole and damage free such a relaxing drive. It's such a good stretch of road. I can't compare any equally distant route in Scotland or England to match it.

This highway is now completely completed and operational. It represents a relief from truck traffic on the A-7 and A-31, which is supposed to now use this route once it is completely finished.

It's amazing how Spain has so much autovia laid-down, until you realize why. The population spread is very uneven, basically apart from the Madrid metro slap bang in the middle of the country, most Spaniards live on or near the entire length of the long Spanish coastline, and in particular along the East coast. The 4 very large centralish Regions of Spain (Castilla y Leon, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura & Aragon) combined are larger than the UK yet they're home to only the equivalent of 10% of the UK's population (6.8 million against 68+ million), so even if Madrid wasn't the capital and largest city and wasn't situated where it is, Spain would still need an inordinate amount of autovia connecting up the population centres of the country, from Galicia in the NW all along the north coast to the Basque Country with Andalucia in the south and the entire East Coast, so thank goodness it's relatively cheap to lay down autovia in Spain otherwise the country really would be screwed. The same applies to the high speed rail too, it's the 2nd most extensive network in the World after China, not because Spaniards just love building high speed rail everywhere but because if they wanna connect up the population centres of the country (which is the whole point of a high speed rail network after all) then they have no choice. By comparison in the UK, with just 2 separate high speed lines running up the West & East sides it's theoretically possible to connect up most of the UK's major population centres with each other (with connecting lines between them at key points) so that with just these 2 high speed corridors you could be connecting at least 75% of the UK's population. In Spain, you need multiple lines branching out from a central point (Madrid) to the NW, the N, the NE, the E/SE, the S and the W (high speed line to Lisbon) plus an East Coast high speed corridor (and, maybe in future a South coast and a North coast high speed corridor which will be prohibitively expensive cos they're both mostly mountainous). Spain has completed /is extending or has started work on most of these corridors and the autovias have been following much the same pattern. To give some idea of central Spain's emptiness, Castilla-La Mancha is the size of Scotland but has 1/3rd of Scotland's population, and whereas most Scots live in the central Belt, in La Mancha there's only 1 city of over 100,000 people. In Scotland there's no motorway north of Perth and the only dual carriageway is the A90 connecting Dundee with Aberdeen, yet northern Scotland has the same population density as Castilla-La Mancha (really low) but La Mancha's criss-crossed by autovias connecting North & Central Spain to the South & East coasts as well as autovias connecting the well spread-out provincial cities not on these major corridors like Cuenca, Toledo & Ciudad Real.

@@etbadaboum Very low salaries. Spain current minimum wage is 965€/month, but it was 750€ just 3 years ago. Of course, I don't mean road workers get minimum wage, but salaries grow accordingly. The average for a road worker is just 22000€/year, and the manager in charge of ~10 workers, is getting 35000€/year.

@osasunaitor
@osasunaitor 2 года назад
@@etbadaboum you are right, but the shady interests between corrupt politicians and the country's most powerful constructors should explain the abundance of motorways and the ease to build them. Same goes for our high-speed railway network. It makes no sense that Spain stands in the top positions of both rankings when our population and our surface area aren't anywhere near that large. Naturally, the usage rates of both road and rail systems are way below other countries' average, because lots of infrastructure has been built where it wasn't needed at all. Corruption and political favours, with the help of billionaire European funds, are the only possible explanation for this nonsense.

4 motorways linking Murcia and Valencia?? Las Vegas NV and Phoenix AZ are likely jealous with their incredibly high number of 0 freeways linking the both of them despite their size.
@EuropeanRoads
@EuropeanRoads 2 года назад
Large U.S. metropolitan areas that grew relatively late in the 20th century suffer from the lack of federal investment like the original Interstate Highway plan. Cities like Las Vegas, Phoenix & Austin were relatively small when the Interstate system was created in 1956. This has never been thoroughly adjusted to later population changes. Spain still has a national road plan that is updated by every government, even though investment has also dried up over the past decade.
