Are you kidding me??? This boy is out of the WORLD...thank you for your music and for sharing your gift. Watch his face...it's all you need to do to feel his soul and magic.
Incredible energy you have Yohan. That middle passage when you were standing and playing was awesome. I could see you put every ounce of energy, concentration and feeling into that solo. Great job. Chick would be proud...
I concur Edwin, and they belong to a breed of young musicians that bring in their train a genre of music that engulfs you like a breath of fresh air. God Bless them and may their tribe increase.
I've been listening all night to everything you played on youtube. This is one of my favorite Chick Corea tunes, and you can really do it justice. 14 yrs old and you swing like some greats in their prime; and such speed.
2:45 - I love it when so much is flowing through him that he has to stand up. I've seen that before, with Jeff Lorber. Yohan is in good company; he's already in my top 5 of keyboardists.
I recently found the channel and had the same reaction. I was in Seoul in 2012 and was amazed at the jazz scene there. Many dedicated venues and Uni graduates playing in different groups. Will have to go back again! :)
Not only is it great playing but it's very pleasant watching you playing. It's obvious you're not a reproducing techniques learned but you're a true artist.
Oh shit, I've been listening to this guy's recordings for a few weeks and had no clue he was a flippin' child. That's just astonishing, I genuinely like his playing as if he were a famous, adult jazz pianist.
I start and finish my days watching you play. Sensational, absolute genious! The inventiveness of Johan Sebastian Bach, the enourmous ability of Wolfgang Amageus Mozart and the genious of Oscar Peterson all in one.
It makes my day to know and see that there is someone so talented and superior as Yohan Kim. I’ve strugled all my life to put musical ideas on paper and sometimes it has taken days. Yohan Kim (apologies for the comparison) is like instant coffee, instant and very satisfying.
Yohan, congratulations! You are a great pianist! I could see you playing "The Girl of Ipanema". This song is of Tom Jobim, Brazilian Pianist ( in memoriam)
Yohan, you are Fantastic! What a Great player, and at such a young age. That was the best performance of "Spain" I have ever heard outside of Chick Corea himself! The world will be hearing much more of you in the near future, I am SURE.
Awesome! I am finding clips on RU-vid of teenagers from all over the world playing outstanding versions of Spain. Good to know there are kids who aren't obsessed with the auto-tuned pop crap out today but enjoy Jazz.
What @adriel said. Though most of what I dislike about pop music isn't about the rhythm (quite the opposite, often), but rather about the skewed sound ideals and lack of harmonic interest. That said, a lot of pop music ticks those boxes too! (Just not what tends to be picked and favorited by the radio stations etc.)
