Hi guys, and welcome back to my channel! If you're new here, my name's Rachel and I'm a huge Eurovision fan. In today's video, I reacted to the live performance of the Spanish entry for ESC 2022, 'SloMo' by Cuban-born singer Chanel. Chanel won the approval of the Spanish at the newly revived Benidorm Fest, beating the likes of Rigoberta Bandini and Tanxugueriras to represent her country.
Chanel's song is in the classic reggaetón style, with spicy lyrics delivered in a strategic mix of both Spanish and English. The musical content of the song is nothing insanely spectacular or avant-garde, with limited chords and some repetitive elements. HOWEVER, it's the artist that makes the song shine. Chanel delivers a cracking live performance, including some world class chroeography that is anything but laboured, which could match up to the likes of Shakira or JLo. Spain should be proud of this entry, showing other countries how the Spanish language can shine on the Eurovision stage, performed by a very capable artist who is both confident and experienced in delivering a quality performance.

BUT, you are intentionally ignoring that fact that Chanel didnt exactly come last in public vote. either half. WHY ARE NONE OF YOU WHINING PEOPLE ACKNOWLEDGING that she won a cumulative vote. Stop acting like she Lost in any sense, only to be saved by juries.. FFS, ESC itself has countless cases where the televote winner was low in juries [Michal Szpak prime example]. ITS JUST REALITY.

She has worked very hard, she has been running on a treadmill for months with 10 centimeter heels, preparing for the performance both in the dance and in the vocal field. The choreography has been done by Kyle hanagami, one of the greatest choreographers in the world who does the dances for Blackpink, Jennifer López...etc and the costumes have been designed by Carmen Farala, the winner of the Drag Race Spain. Nadie dice que no lo haga bien, quizás para tu cara me suena lo haga bien, pero no es la artista que quería España, no es ni Tanxugueiras ni Rigoberta, punto queríamos nuestra música no... Un aprendiz de artista... Que efectivamente es una profesional y baila increible, pero queríamos nuestras raíces, no reguetón barato... Es sencillo de entender... Y es lo que votó la gente... Pero ante un proyecto de una discografíca poco se puede hacer, canción mala y ya está... Muy triste....

@@davidgomez8689 opiniones y gustos, los tuyos tan respetables como los de cualquiera. A mi, por ejemplo, aborreciendo el reguetón, las otras dos no me gustan por encima. Hay que respetar las cosas. En voto demoscopico y televoto quedó empatada - empatada! - con Rigoberta, por detrás de Tanxugueiras, si. Pero con el formato de puntuación incluyendo a un jurado lo que sucedió era perfectamente factible. A mi me gustaba la de Varry Brava. ¿La voy a añadir a mis playlist para escucharla en mi día a día? No, me gustaba para llevarla a un concurso con opciones de competir. Igual el voto del jurado ha ido por ahí. En cualquier caso, hay que respetar el resultado, y apoyar a nuestra candidata.

She is half cuban and half Spanish. Her mother is Cuban and her father Catalán (Spanish) She has lived in Spain since she was 4 years old. Therefore, she is more Spanish than anything else.

@@ZakhadWOW Sadly you are right. I had a feeling it would pan out this way given the percentage distributions of the voting. I think it is frustration at the jury cynically taking full advantage of the system and misguided toward Chanel herself. I do think that it is legitimate to question the voting arrangement even though we knew what we were getting into.

Congratulation for Chanel, but her song is appropriate for a Latin Grammy award, not for Eurovision. Tanxugueiras was the perfect option for that. The Spanish public picked up Tanxugueiras by giving the maximum qualification (60 points) but the jury (without any reason) refused them by giving barely 30 points. Which, it's very fishy. On the other hand, one of the 5 jury members has some relationship to Chanel. Which makes it even more fishy. Anyways, Tanxugueiras has a good musical CV, and will make more and more excellent spectacles ( much better than Chanel, under my POV 🙂 ) Regards

Gracias por tan buena valoración a la actuación de Chanel. Es tremendamente buena. Una artista consolidada y ha trabajado muy duro para esta actuación . Yo la apoyo y estoy segura que tendrá mucha más puntuación que otros años. Sólo una cosa añado : Pastora Soler es una grandísima vocalista, su actuación en el festival de Eurovisión fué buenísima, pero creo que los demás países no supieron valorarla como merecía. Rewatching this after our 3rd place :). Her performance was already almost perfect at BenidormFest. I remember being worried about the changes they could introduce and, in the end, those little changes, added to what we had previously seen, resulted in a perfect performance at Eurovision. I had never been this proud about an entry from my country (along with "Quédate conmigo") ❤

as you're from the UK, I want to tell something: the UK deserves a decent national selection similar to Benidorm Fest or post-2020 UMK. the BBC needs to get up. a collaboration with a famous record label is not enough.

The problem is that the U.K. doesn’t take Eurovision seriosly. In fact in U.K. it is almost considered a comical kitsch camp event. To participate in Eurovision is considered career suicide. For what it is worth perhaps the U.K. have a healthy sense of perspective when it comes to Eurovision. The only thing that bemuses me is when some U.K. viewers complain about negative bias against the U.K. when it comes to voting when we send incredibly poor entries.

@@a.m.rifkia.3rd493 I believe there was a step up in the quality of the Spanish selection this year so a good effort on behalf of the delegation. I expect Germany to step up too, but as long as the BBC is involved then it is difficult to see the U.K. follow suit. The truth is that Eurovision receives good viewing figures so there is no incentive for improving the quality of the national entry. A good return for minimal effort. There is a small hardcore group of Euro fans that are frustrated by it all. Most people aren’t that bothered and enjoy viewing the freak element of Eurovision. They enjoy the crazy entries more than the serious ones and that is the way they view the contest. They even come up with drinking games where everyone is allocated an entry and whenever your entry gets 12 points you have to down a drink. It’s not to be taken seriously.

Thanks for this video. I'm really happy she's getting credit from outside of Spain. And Even though I don't fancy latin pop, I can only say "Ole Chanel", 'cause that performance is breathtaking. I also hope she gets support from latinamerican people living in Europe, cause they also get represented by this Spanish entry. La música latina is being a big influence in modern pop music, and Eurovision is an example of it. Now it's the turn of Spain to show up.

This girl is austounding, her dancing, singing and happiness up the stage is top level. I'm from Spain but i didn't knew Chanel before today, and I'm so proud of her. Finally we have a good show to bring to Eurovision. It feels so Pro. 👍🏼👍🏼 The last years Spain chose very good artists with a very bad songs, so lame. This year us the first time i feel proud to be spaniard. Agree with you that the song is really basic and has no charm or that something else that makes it special, but the combination is fucking good. As a Spanish most of us prefered Rigoberta Bandini or Taxungueiras, but I have to recognize that the lyrics (the real reason why we love them) wouldn't really reach the non Spanish speakers and also this girl is really energetic and can do literally everything, leaving aside that it's reggaeton and it's a genre I don't really fancy, BUT it's catchy, and that's the thing they need to complete the entire "pack". The bling suit doesn't actually have a military aesthetic - it's inspired by a matador outfit. It's a nod to the Spanish culture.
