Un gran factor que contribuye a la alta tasa de desempleo en España es, sin duda, el trabajo en negro. Personalmente conozco a algunas personas en la mejor edad laboral que reciben subvenciones y, al mismo tiempo, trabajan en negro. Un conocido mío, que gestiona apartamentos turísticos en Cádiz, cobra todo en negro a través de Bizum. Cuando le pregunté si eso no podría ser descubierto, me dijo que las cantidades por debajo de 300 € no son problemáticas. No sé hasta qué punto eso es cierto, pero me parece bastante sorprendente.

No, one person‘s decision to not return to Spain for holiday won’t affect the Spanish economy. But a large percentage of British people who opt not to go on vacation in Spain will affect the Spanish economy. It’s a common strategy to stop doing business with an entity that has offended you or is doing something you don’t agree with.Divest!.

I’m curious how unemployment is calculated in Spain. In the US, only those currently collecting unemployment insurance payments are counted. Contractors and the self employed don’t pay for unemployment insurance, so they don’t collect, and therefore aren’t counted.

A pint of Timothy Taylor’s or London Pride in the Coach & Horses in Greek Street, which right in the heart of London’s West End is nowhere near £9.00, it’s £6.25. The further you move from the centre the cheaper it gets. At my local Oakes Barn, in Bury st Edmunds a pint of my favourite, Oakham’s Brewery JHB is £3.70, my wife drinks Estrella Galicia, she has 1/2 a pint £2.70. It would seem that if you’re daft enough you can pay a lot. If you want really expensive, try Dublin.

I like crunchy peanut butter with cut up apples as a snack or for breakfast , Stu. I had never heard of the of the Sahrawis. I asked Chat GPT, who I now call Antonio, to educate me about these people. I think based on what I know now is Spain needs to help these people. It sounds like the colony was dumped in 1975 . I think their argument that they are citizens makes sense.

Regarding the cost of a beer in London...I was traveling in Malaysia and a Japanese woman was arguing with a watermelon vendor about the price of his produce, saying they were half the price in Thailand. His answer...well buy it in Thailand.😆 Comparing the cost of produce in London compared to any place that isn't a global city is pretty stupid.

Apparently they used to have very good concerts at the naval base in Rota, with top American bands. Increased security after 9/11 put a stop to it, unfortunately.

As an Army Colonel, had the pleasure of working in the Rota Navy Hospital for 6 weeks during the late 1980s. As Spanish speaker it was a great assignment going there from Germany!
