Spain's new King Felipe VI and his family have attended a short, austere ceremony in the country's Parliament to mark his ascension to the throne on June 19th. Filipe has taken over from his father, Juan Carlos, who abdicated on June 2.
Spaniards love their king because of the late civil war. Without a king, the country would have a government crisis, but with king as the head of state which have full control with the land but not with politics, the king will be act like a president.

They kept it simple. Most european monarchies do the same. Their governments won't let them spend so much money. The UK is the only monarchy that spends so much money on coronations and ceremonies anymore. Most other european monarchies have toned things down.
And it's not a coronation: it's a proclamation. No king (or queen) has been coronated in Spain since the Middle Ages. Proclamation means that the Houses of the Congress and the Senate recognise Felipe as king of Spain.
Monarchy in post-Roman Spain was instituted by Goths and, among them, monarchy was already elective and not hederitary. That set a first feature for the forcoming monarchs (plus some cities had their own legal traditions and laws the king at the time had to swear). I wouldn't say "any thing thanks to Franco". Franco won his war, abolished the republic and put himself as a lifelong dictator, when he saw the Reaper coming he carried on with the royal dynastic line prior to the replubic. That's the thing about the whole monarchy thing... There was also a referendum to ask about the monarchy and the way to democracy... and here comes the second (or third) part of the story and blah, blah, blah...

But me as a foreigner of Spain, don't like the king's habit. Spanish people want the king to come out of the palace and be socialize with his people. The king must also make a speech in public area if he make changes such as lowering/high taxes, making project, and etc so that his people know why he did that, instead of staying all day in the palace corrupting his people's money.
