Two beaches in an Alicante municipality were closed last Tuesday due to contamination and discharges detected during a control conducted by the Directorate General of Water. Two days later, one of the beaches has been reopened following favorable results obtained in a new quality test. The beach in question is La Glea, located in Orihuela Costa, where the City Council has announced the reopening of the beach for swimming. According to reports, recent analyses have confirmed that the control parameter levels are "now within established limits," allowing for its reopening. The previous report had detected elevated levels in the microbiological control parameters in the samples taken. The results had exceeded more than twice the maximum allowable values for one of the contamination indicators. Consequently, the beach was temporarily closed to swimming to protect public health. The Orihuela Coast Department of Beaches thanks citizens and visitors for their understanding during the closure period and assures that it will continue with monitoring and control, following the guidelines of the Directorate General of Water to maintain water quality at optimal levels. Additionally, the Directorate General of Water confirmed the presence of a discharge in the dry area of Cala Mosca beach. Samples were taken from both the discharge and the swimming area, with results expected soon. As a precautionary measure, Cala Mosca has been closed to swimming until the discharge is completely eliminated and it is confirmed that it does not affect the water quality of the beach.
