Maybe England finally has reached the point where the acceptance kick in. They have been dreaming and believing since 1966 that this year is the benchmark of English football. The fault has never been their's. It's been managers', referees', individual players', Premier League's, the money etc etc. No Englishman involved in football has ever reached the conclusion that England is simply not Germany, Italy, France or Spain. It can't be the culture, another suspected culprit, because France is lukewarm before semi final. Perhaps all the checks on the list have been made and there remain only one: it's us, we are not good enough. That would certainly free the team from carrying a yoke around, like the English team is a certain number of people punished every second year to play the UEFA Championship or the World Cup. Let's say that the English press reached the same conclusion as the English public and the public in other countries, what would it mean. Well, for one thing the young guys who carry the pundits expectations and their downright whining, would be free to enjoy the second place. England made it to the final, which in itself is an achievement. I hope the players feel that way, even if they are not allowed to show it. The press ask "what went wrong, why didn't you win"? Well, for one thing, Spain is a better team. Let's call the teams that win the World Cup and the UEFA championship an A-group. It's six, or seven, countries there, if one counts Portugal. England isn't there. They are in the B-group with a lot of other countries. The difference between England and the others is that they are allowed to feel happy when they have reached the semis. Switzerland, or my country Sweden, doesn't have to pretend if they have managed to come third, or even fourth. They are celebrated, something the English team never is allowed to experience. After a game, won or lost, they are to repent in front of a f***ing nitwit from a sports channel that give pundits millions to go on about what's wrong without ever get to it. For one thing, they are wrong. English press are made up by a lot of misfits & nitwits. Older fellows who wouldn't dream of letting the players get away with "another failure". I have many times wondered about the patience a guy like Southcross must show. Why don't he tell them to f**k off?
