My sister actually ran away from home because of Spam. Growing up in the 60s, the folks didn’t have a lot of money so we had Spam pretty much every day. I loved the stuff then and love it to this day. Clarice hated it, got in arguments with mom and dad, and eventually packed a bag and left home at 15. Happy to say she made amends years later with all of us. Clarice has a good sense of humor, too, because she laughs when I send her a can of Spam every year on her birthday. Okay then, that’s my Spam story.
This has got to be one of the most dangass ridiculous recommendations youtube done ever sent me... and yet... I vibe with this man. The true star of this episode is that knife he used to cut the sandwich. That's one of the most effective shandwich cutting knives I've ever seen in my life.
I'm old school too.Grew up eating Spam, still eat itsometimes.Itsgood for sandwiches and to create other dishes too.I like to sing that 1990s Spam song from the tv commercials.lol.
I take spam slices with me when I go backpacking. Fry that up on a camp stove with some rehydrated eggs.. man, it’s so good when you just wake up after hiking 20 miles.
wow nice to see someone else that likes this sandwich i have been eating spam like this for almost 40 years the mayo was the only thing i don't put on my version but will have to try it now
My Dad used to make me and my brothers grilled cheese and spam sandwiches for lunch slice it in half then throw one slice at my head and the other half at my brothers head.Nothing like hot cheese in your ear.
Now I know what I'm going to have for dinner. Yummy. I slice my Spam, lay it out on a pizza pan, and then bake it in the oven. Same golden brown goodness, but no grease spatters in the kitchen to have to clean up. Think I'll put me a piece of lettuce on my sandwich along with the tomatoes.
i love spam! its extremely loved where im from! sometimes i use it to make regional dish, sometimes i use it to make budae jjigae and now that i live in america theres like 30 types to try. its all so tasty.
Yes, everyone but me wants cheese on it. I have heard that about using the mayonnaise to brown the bread. I will have to try it. Thank you for commenting.
Wow, I didn't expect to see a Spam sandwich on RU-vid, does anyone like Spam any more? Their loss as far as I'm concerned, a fried Spam butty is a magnificent thing and for some unfathomable reason vastly under appreciated and maligned, OK so it comes in a tin but there again, it comes in a tin, no messing about looking for that perfect cut. All you need is to go to the shop and buy a tin of Spam and you have the makings of a sandwich fit for a King. I like mine with warm freshly baked bread and butter maybe sometimes with a few mushrooms
nice to see a cooking channel thats just a regular person making something and not some millionaire shilling made in cookware, hot honey and gordan ramseys frozen meals
Hey, Buddy, if you ever used a steel spatula on my no-stick skillet, you'd be unappreciated at my house, too!! wonder how many viewers caught that. Other than that, I enjoy spam sammiches myself. I also add some lettuce to mine. Yum City Central.
I made a lot of SPAMwiches while I was in school, my favorite way to make it is butter fry the SPAM in a pan, season with whatever, I usually did garlic/onion powder and/or a seasoning salt because I wanted to send the sodium content through the roof. When you flip it over, you melt half a slice of cheese over it, I liked using pepper jack, serve on a Hawaiian roll and either top it with ketchup and spicy mustard or a good BBQ sauce.
I would’ve fried an egg in the grease. Let it sit on a paper towel for a little bit cut some tomato put the eggs in tomato on that sandwich and it would be excellent. Or eat it as he made it but I had a nice slice of cheese.
So liking the non- chalont," not sure about the correct spelling", attitude, so simple of a video recipe, like it or not, I'm gonna make me this sandwich, much appreciated 😋...
THAT is some old-school, Midwestern white trash fare right there! My father's go-to Sunday breakfasts were Spam sammiches, Shit-on-the-Shingle, or fried potatoes in bacon grease lol. Oh, and if we got fancy, we had Pete's Pride pork fritters 😋😋 His breakfast sides were coffee and about four Vantage cigarettes.
I like BBQed spam, I grew up eating spam with BBQ sauce put right in the pan so it caramelizes. Nowadays I'll cut the spam super thin bc I like it crispy, and cover it in brown sugar and then whatever spices, garlic, paprika, cayenne, whatever. The sugar caramelizes so nicely. Then BBQ sauce just right in the pan till it makes a black sludge that I have to scrape out lol. It's good though.
Hey ,Chef did you ever see this crazy Spam recipe from the 70s that had you stick some whole cloves in it & then glaze it somehow and heat in the oven for Christmas dinner? Yuck! Ihad a friend whose step mother did that once and big suprise ,nobody ate it.
Up here in Canada we have Klik in a can, I’d say almost identical… I actually just bought 3 cans of it last week! Gotta have some inventory for those nasty winter days.
I live in the south and anything cooler than 60 feels like winter so not sure how I would fare in Canada. I will still eat like it’s going to get cold though.
@@Unappreciatedchef I’d love to have just one year with no -40 temps. 60 degrees is a nice day! I can’t imagine how thin your blood must be. Lmao. If you ever want to experience cold, snow and some great ice fishing let me know.
@@jamesfrommanitoba.1992 sounds like an adventure and I am all about an adventure. I may have to bundle up until I am unable to move but catching and cooking some icy fish would make a great video. 😁
@@Unappreciatedchef do you have a email address so we can contact each other in a more private manner or please suggest a way we could contact each other.
It’s not bad. Everyone says I didn’t need oil and they were probably right. The best suggestion I have gotten is to slice it paper thin and fry it crisp like bacon.
This cut into my soul. I just watched a news story about our sec def hiding his hospitalization from the chain of command since new years. I came here looking for comfort but in 36 years I've never eaten any form of spam sandwich without a fried egg and cheese. I dunno. Try that though.
I made one with an egg but I don’t get a lot of cheese since dad doesn’t eat it because it runs his sugar up he says. The one with an egg on it is in one of my videos.
You ate the maple mustard sauce like soup or put it on spam? You be you and maple mustard sounds like it would be pretty tasty. I am thinking it would make a nice ham glaze so why not spam?
Cant beat a spam sandwich. Yknow, my trade school teacher cooked for us once and he cooked a Pork Sauce Piquant. His big secret was cooked the porkchops first in bacon fat. I the same could be done with the spam grease. A base for a hell of a stew!
Oh no! I try to make things simple but I sliced it wrong anyway according to one viewer. They were right I should have sliced it so it would fit my bread.
