The way he's projecting onto Kris, like talking about them living in a dumpster, and when he started screaming about calling for friends that abandoned them. He's so creepy it's great
And after the pacifist version of this fight, Kris kinda projects onto Spamton. Kris knows their both puppets, and tries to free Spamton by cutting the strings controlling him, only for Spamton to collapse the moment of freedom, and Kris sees in the same way he can’t just cut this controlling Soul out of him and fix things. After the fight Susie asks you if you’re ok and if you say no, Susie says you screamed the word. Normally silent and composed Kris *Screamed* . Seeing freedom ‘kill’ Spamton really messed with Kris’ psyche.
@@crowsenpai5625 yeah they kinda both projected onto each other tbh since they are similar in the puppet aspect. I feel like it’s kinda as if Kris felt he saw his future right in front of him. it’s kinda sad to see how much it affected Kris since we rarely see any emotion from them. This might be the first time tbh?
I don't see that stuff as creepy, I find the poor guy rather pitiable, he's gone through a lot of crap and he hates himself for it, saying his friends abandoned him for the slime he is. He sees himself as deserving of the crappy existence he currently has. I really like how much more connected to the overall chapter Spamton is compared to Jevil. Jev was hidden away, only one character besides your party ever speaks of him. But other people know Spamton, and he even effects the story if you choose 'that' route.
@@der_saftmon that line makes me so sad. He's not really talking to Kris, he's talking to the player. He knows we can help him. He just wants to be free...🥲
7:56 I think Spamton warns us about our possible next villain. When they talk about this “Mike” character and tells them not to trust anything on TV that the man is a criminal ties in with the ending of the game where Kris opens a fountain to a possible TV dark world next. Not to mention when going through the Neo Spamton pacifist quest the out of bounce creepy face has the same smile as the one on the TV I also find it interesting these “secret boss fights” like Jevil and Spamton give out the shadow crystals over people like Queen and King spade the supposed main villains of these dark worlds
Yup, the whole spiel he makes when you try to call for help is actually about himself, which makes it really sad. Even though I prefer normal route Spamton more since he's less straight up aggressive and against you and more just desperate
In terms of the Spamton dubs I've heard thus far, my favorite one has gotta be Saltydkdan's impression, but yours is a close runner-up due to just how fucking unhinged you made him sound
Oh it's exactly how i imagined him sounding, but a bit of criticism is some of the laughs don't need to be that hysterical, a calm but still crazed laughter would've been great in the scene where he's inside the trash talking to you.
Personally, I think the absolute hysteria really works for Spamton, especially with how his sprite specifically throws his head back super far compared to everyone else.
@@GuyMadeOfBirds no no it totally does but my point is that there's different, more subtle ways to portray his laughter while still feeling hysterical.
@@brinst_ar Yeah, I get your point and I think it's valid. I just happen to disagree, and feel that it being that level of hysterical works for Spamton.
everyone always misses "The smooth taste of Neo" "The [!?!?] taste of Spamton" they are my favorite lines and THEY ARE NEVER INCLUDED! Stop looking up the speedrun Spamton Neo fights and get the full dialogue!
this is my first time hearing his full dialogue and it’s,,,, a lot sadder than I thought it would be. it makes the acid theory so much more plausible taking everything into consideration (the “can anyone hear me” could be after the event, he’s broken and alone)
I think he broke out from the control for a short moment and then something immidately stopped him I have no idea who that "someone" is, but it's terryfing
I don’t know why, I but I have a feeling that Swatch has something to do with how he behaves. Because like, if you talk to swatch after defeating spamton he reveals that he actually knew Spamton and acknowledged him as a valued customer before he went downhill. And shortly after that Spamton copied Swatch’s outfit to impersonate him (said by swatch) and must’ve gotten caught. Because, well, Swatch is aware that he tried to do so. And as the head butler he was probably in charge of getting rid of Spamton as well. Spamton saying “I’m sorry!” Could imply that he was sorry for trying to steal the empty disk by impersonating Swatch, and was about to be punished for it. My guess is that Swatch had Spamton be beat up to prevent him from returning, and while that happened his system got all mixed up causing him to speak and act in that mannerism… idk it’s the only theory I’ve got
This is almost exactly how i imagined him speaking, constantly switching from differing tones of pre recorded voices overlapping eachother with little to no consistency of emotion. You did amazing at voicing this demon
I simply adore the fact that everyone I hear voice acting Spamton agrees that not only does he sound completely off his rocker, but his bracketed text sounds sampled, synthesized, or just plain weird.
I think part of the reason it works so well, is because he speaks with all capitals EXCEPT for what’s in the brackets. I didn’t notice it until I read this comment, but it’s effective even subconsciously, I guess
@@slaughterbottle69 actually theres a few instances where he doesnt speak in all caps. Like 2:01 or 3:08 where it's a simple and few worded statement with usually a number replacing a letter or like 7:48 or 8:08 where he breaks his normal facade and tries to break free of his supposed corruption
I like how the more sane voice of spamton sounds fucking PISSED at the mention of Mike. While the spamton we see is clearly pissed at Mike too, it seems to be more an insane kind, keeping up his loud demeanour. Which really caused the "Mike.." to catch me off guard with how deep and gravely it was, like the man was growling Mike's name
this is so amazing, the commercial bits with the brackets are SO COOL. he sounds better than i ever imagined although i kinda wish you did the secret boss dialogue cuz thats my favorite lines in the game but eh it is what it is
I just realized… Spamton said he’s never seen a Soul like Kris’ before. So either he has never seen a soul before, never seen a human soul before… or there’s something wrong with Kris’ soul
@@lancethomas4907 that soul is our connection. When you interact with the bird cage in chapter 2 there’s dialogue that implies they locked us away for the night while they are the entire pie and possibly opened a fountain, but then afterwards shoved us back in. We see them do this again in chapter 2 when they lock us underneath the sink while they hop out the window to slash toriel’s tires. They then climb back in the window and let us out of the sink. They do this again a few hours later when they open a fountain
This is the one I keep coming back to. You really capture the sense of his insanity just being a cover for him struggling relentlessly against whatever binds him.
Something I think is really good writing is that Deltarune C2 was released late on a Friday. It probably really creeped out someone that Spamton appeared to read the time on their computer when he said “I knew you’d come on a Saturday night!”
This actually happened to me, so you're absolutely right. It was only when I saw people voicing spamton that I realized that Spamton didn't read my computer's time and he just says that normally.
@@pokemonkirbykowalski I haven't played Deltarune ch. 2 myself (just watched gameplays), but if that happened to me, I would definitely have assumed it was the same case as Monika calling you by your Steam nickname/PC username in DDLC.
This didn’t exactly happen to me but I had a similar experience. You see, my nickname is Grace right? So uh, when I created my file and y’know went through the whole “vessel” process. I named my character something dumb, but when it asked for the creators name. I put “Grace” Flash forward a few hours later in the queens castle at Swatch’s shop, he says something along the lines of “I’m Swatch, our lady Graces head butler.” And I remember going “ohhh haha! Nice one Toby, using the creators name!” But then like 2 days later I was watching revtrositys voice test thing and he said the exact same thing. Still, even then it took me a minute for it to process that Swatch was actually referring to the queen, not the player- Looking back on it though I should have realized immediately, but Toby has done things like use our inputted information where we would least expect it. So It just caught me off guard lol.
@@galaxy_tripod0_0 YEAH- the whole thing with naming the castle town after the creator REALLY shook me. toby’s certainly stepped up his game with these easter eggs 🤧
Idk why, but this character sort of reminds me of a character that would be in the Don’t hug me, I’m scared series. Also, pretty good job with the voice acting as always, Sudzy!
Is Spamton linking himself to Burgerpants there? On a Genocide Route, Burgerpants says "I can't go to hell, I'm all out of vacation days." And Spamton at his shop says "Too many vacation days? Take a god damn vacation straight to hell " It's an interesting connection. It also makes sense cause they're both shopkeepers.
one of spamton's sprites (specifically the one he says 'too many vacation days' with) is also pretty similar to burgerpant's sprite where he shakes with crazy teeth
This voice acting is stupendous, sounds exactly like I imagined him. On a side note, remember how Jevil mentioned Queen in chapter 1, and she turned out to be the antagonist of chapter 2? Now Spamton mentions someone named "Mike", associating him with television. Now remember that creepy tv at the end of chapter 2. Chapter 1 was about toys, chapter 2 was about the internet/computers, and chapter 3 will probably be about tv. I wouldn't be surprised if the dark world was about all about entertainment, seeing how the darkeners' purpose is, according to Ralsei, making lighteners happy.
@@Pompadourius why would flowey be in the tv. Flowey is just deranged psychopathic asriel. Unless you mean like it’s flowey from an ut route and somehow crossed dimensions… I don’t think it’s flowey
"Too many excess vacation days?? Take a god damn vacation straight to Hell" has to be one of my favorite lines in all of Chapter 2 now. It's just so good.
"Well you're [$!$!] right but don't blame me when you're crying in the remains of a broken home wishing you let your old pal Spamton kill you!" Is a good contender imo.
Jasan ohhh nice i didn’t know that, i haven’t explored undertale genocide as deeply as pacifist to be fair xD I like burgerpants just saying that, doesnt feel out of place at all coming from him lol
@@OliveBranch801 like he's clearly having an extremely rough and painful time, that's undeniable but he's clearly unstable in a "danger to himself and others" way best you can do is nudge someone who's qualified for that shit towards him, because you certainly aren't
@@sobersplash6172 I dont think he is crazy at all. I think he isnt allowed to talk openly about a lot of stuff so he is trying to encrypt it in a bunch of crazy salesman nonsense and audioclips. I think he is trying to communicate with Kris without anyone else understanding
It kinda shows that Spamton still cares for people. Oh and the fact the he’s LITERALLY GETTING CONTROLLED in front of us, he know how it feels to be pulled by the strings. So seeing another puppeteer using their puppet for evil, even when the puppet doesn’t want to? It’s obvious. He feels disgusted and furious.
@@Ruby-on4oq Eh, I doubt, at this stage of Spamton's corruption, it's out of care. More out of surprise, and contempt. He has been used , and in the Weird route, he seems accepting of that. He isn't trying to take your SOUL. Just break it, to save himself. "My city. My world!" Does that sound like the words of a savior to you? Perhaps a better alternative to whatever is coming with the Weird route, but still not a good guy. Makes me like him a lot more, actually. Much more of a deep character.
I can't decide what's more twisted about Spamton; The fact that he possessed- and was willing to sell- a cursed ring that brings out a Magic User's full potential, at the cost of inflicting constant pain on them as they wore it, Or the fact that he apparently had _Five copies of the damn thing!_
@@shame2189 The next time he brings up the ring, in the weird route final battle he says [4 left]. Implying he had five Thorn Rings, you bought one, so now he has four. ... That single line of dialogue, and a bunch of stuff went through my head, to then later learn his backstory only made me feel really bad for the guy, I don't really think there is a proper happy ending for him, there are still 5 chapters left, I really hope we learn who's done this to Jevil and Spamton, feels like their real selves might be lost deep within their corrupted dark twisted minds.
@@paladincomics I bet you its the smiling face in the tv. Spamton literally openly warns you about trusting him despite knowing he is listening. I also think he is kinda trying to encrypt what he is saying by using soundclips. You can tell that by listening him talk about the knight without using a single audio clip which immediately pissed the person controlling him off to the point of doing painful things to spamton and completely replacing what he was going to say by some out of context line
I see it as the person Spamton used to be crying out for help… But the really disturbing part is when spamton pretends to not know what was just said but also acknowledges that he was trying to talk to you.
@@Snaps12345 honestly i dont think its the smiling tv face. it feels too early to reveal something like that when there are still 4 more chapters after the one where we'll probably meet the smiling tv face
Aside from couple of missed "commercial" voice parts, absolutely stellar work! I had felt like making one myself for lulz, but with text translated on my native language, and now I'm [@¶@?] inspired to do so a bit more, thanks :D
The best thing about this is when you specifically voice acted “you whispered Noelles name” to drive the point home that it wasn’t kris who called her but (YOU).
YOU... the one that forced her to kill and freeze everyone and even her friend, Berdly. And the worst part is, you're doing it in the image/form of Kris, the one that Noelle thought was her friend. But it doesn't have to be that way, you can do the Pacifist Route and Noelle can have a good image about her childhood friend...
I actually think… the opposite. My personal thought process so far is that Deltarune is the absolute polar opposite of Undertale. It’s entirely about how your choices don’t matter, how you’re not special even if you seem so, how Kris a puppet and Kris can’t do anything about it, just like the rest. I think in this game, for the main route, you’re the puppeteer, the opposite of how Undertale worked. Kris breaks free and uses force to let the game let then make a choice in the Weird route and they can finally use their own will to change something, for the better or worse. I don’t know what I should think of Kris’ implied character so far, because they’re a far cry from the blank slate we saw in Frisk. From the 2 chapter endings so far, they seem to be fighting you, the soul that manifested in the start of the game. The start of battles and the start of their need. Kris is trying to push it away and make their own choices instead of having you do everything. It fits with the current theme, anyhow. It already showed us how different from Undertale it was, with the acceptance of a human, the surface, nobody remembering you, Papyrus being a very shy person and of course choices not mattering. I feel like this is the direction the story may go. I have no idea what the slashing of tires, or the whatever the heck Kris did to the floor, was for, but I think Kris removing their soul is them trying to build tolerance to soulless-ness so they have more time to make a choice. Of course, we’ll all have to just wait and see…
@@NukaKappa it's pretty implied the player is the one who is making Noelle doing it. She says that whenever she got a command it wasn't from Kris voice but from an unfamiliar one
There are actually two voices: common Spamton’s one and synthetic one. And I am not actually sure if something happens with the second one ._. (AH WAIT IT's ALREADY MENTIONED IN COOMENT. I'm sorry for this carelessness. Typos are just there because why not)
Ok, before this video I was thinking "I've seen so many voice over videos where they give the character something wayyy different than what's in my head eugh" but here you absolutely NAILED it on the most complex speech patterns in the game! So good!
“*PRICES SO LOW , EVERYONE I KNOW IS [[Dead]] ! ! !” And “*TAKE THIS DEAL AND YOU WILL [ [ Die ] ] ! ! *IT’ S THAT GOOD ! ! !” Or “*THIS IS [One Purchase] YOU WILL [Regret] FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!”
While I feel you missed out on using Cinemassacre's "Minecrap", I respect the use of Gabe Newell's "Thanks" and the Walter White quote. This is definitely how I imagine his speech patterns overall.
