Spandrel & Insulating Glass Manufacture 

Take a tour of United Plate Glass (UPG) in West Butler, PA, to learn how spandrel glass and insulating glass units (IGUs) are manufactured. First, glass lites from manufacturers like Vitro arrive at UPG to be scored, sized and washed. Then, they can be delivered to the spandrel line, where the lites are given a ceramic coating and sent to a drying oven before being heat-treated. UPG also features a computer-controlled vertical insulating glass unit assembly line that presses glass lites and sealants together to create IGUs that are then inspected and shipped.
