ASP PRESENTS:
The Spanish-American War, Uniforms and Equipment of the US Army. The US Army had many changes in their uniforms during the Spanish-American War. The Army evolved from using different types of materials in their uniforms and took ideas from other countries to fight in the tropical theater. The Army then evolved again into adopting the Olive Drab (OD) to fight during World War 1.
Special thanks to Arty for presenting his display of the Uniforms and Equipment of the US Army during the Spanish-American War.

The blue uniform with campaign hat and a krag has to be my favorite in terms of style. I just love that look.

Spanish-American War is the last war to see Americans wearing blue.

+Benny Chenley That is correct.. the blue uniform was retained for full dress and Khaki and the later OD became the field uniform.

The items are displayed for all to enjoy. I have well over 3000 items in my 40 year collection from the Civil War thru WW2 including Ordnance { Hand Grenades } and long arms . I have a few questions about the U.S army uniform from a specific era. I was hoping maybe you could clarify a few things.

The 1874 mess tin is surprisingly close in appearance to what I was issued during my Army time 91-02.

The M1884 enlisted fatigue blouse-Brown Canvas Duck began the change from the blue Army uniforms. This was made for very dirty fatigue duty and the troopers found it much more comfortable in hot climates. Wool uniforms were often quite itchy.

Thanks for posting your videos. Finally somebody made a video about the uniforms on the Spanish-Filipino American War. We do Filipino Scouts Living History here in Tacoma, Washington and we wore those uniforms for our display. Trying to educate Filipino community here and let them knows we wear those Rough Riders Uniforms during that period the Philippine-American War of 1899-1902 up to 1913! Longer than the Spanish American War.

Tgastt Batangueno Interesting! I'm a young collector and starting to get into the history of the Filipino Scouts during WW2. I'll be doing more videos like these in the near future. Plus, I'll be displaying my collection of pre-World War 2 equipment used by the Scouts. There's not a lot of interest here on the East Coast in regards to the either the Filipino Scouts or the Philippine-American War. Good to know that this video reached you guys on the West Coast!

Philippine Scouts started during the Philippine-American War 1899. They wear the Rough Riders Uniforms. And the Filipino Rebs wear the Spanish Rayadillo Uniforms.

Why are two sets of numbers on the Merriam bag? Two regiments? I have a haversack with the same thing, mine says A (as in Co. A), crossed infantry rifles, 202 (pack belonged to someone in the 202nd NY Vol. Inf) with a '33' under the 202

Interesting comparison of the Spanish-American War of 1898, to include Cuba and the Philippines, and the Boar War of 1899 between the British and the Dutch Afrikaners in South Africa. Interestingly too, both US and British troops faced enemies armed with 7mm Mauser 93 bolt action rifles that were superior to the U.S. .30-40 Krag and the British Lee-Metford. Those turn-of-the-century brush wars would greatly influence what both countries fight the Great War (World War I) with in terms of improved arms, equipment and uniforms.

Both Spanish and American units were mostly using still black powder, single shot rifles, the M71 Rolling Block in 11.2mm Mauser and the M1873/1884 Springfield Trapdoor in .45-70 Government

Not sure if they have Yaqui Indian blood line. Todays Macabebes don't even know it. What I know most Macabebes are tall and lanky. The one who recruited my dad in the Scouts were Macabebe scouts back in the 1934.
