A special hike this one for me in a small village in the province of León, northern Spain. It is home to an extremely, dear friend of mine of many years and it was a blessing to spend time with him as well as his family.👨👩👧👧
Upon, arriving to Boñar, you can't help but notice the mountain range that is dotted around the village and I knew I would definitely be going up one. The one that caught my eye though and many others is Pico Cueto. 🏔The Caseta that oversees the village and beyond as far as the city of León, on a clear, sunny day, is used daily for monitoring and spotting any forest fires in the region.🌋
I picked one of the hottest days to make my ascend up Pico Cueto which wasn't the best of conditions but I was leaving Boñar the following weekend and so I had to do it on this particular day. I left home as early as possible because although, the route is initially sign-posted, I would later find out that it wasn't as easy as it looks to reach the top to the Caseta.🏠
The heat didn't bother me in the slightest but what made this hike tougher than normal was the amount of flies around🤣. It was quite bizarre but I thought to just let them be, as I really wanted to reach the top. As the saying goes; You can catch more flies with honey than you can with vinegar.
The scenery around me was green and lush and I felt like I was very far away from civilisation. It's certainly a place you can come, explore and gather your thoughts. The local surroundings are dotted with travellers and campers alike.🏕
I highly recommend coming here to Boñar, if you are ever passing through León. It has so much to offer with its nature, local cuisine and tourist attractions like the Museo de la Fauna Salvaje.🐆🐅
For me personally, my dear friend lives there too and was so lovely to spend time with him and his family. Forever grateful🙏💫
