We call them spotted mackerel in Australia, Spanish Mackerel are a larger species with vertical stripes and go a bit harder. All good eating, and that recipe looked pretty good. Its great to see the kids out in the boat teaching a new generation of fisho's

If you ever get hooked again just use a piece of braid and pop it out. Trebles, stright hooks - all the same. I'm serious - works everytime and WAAAY less painful. Just do a search here on RU-vid for remove fish hook braided line. There are a lot of them out there. The pro bass guys figured it out a while back. and PS - those Grill grates are the best invention since sliced bread!

Gabe that same exact thing happend to me with a Big Bass, boat flipped him went down to grab him and he flopped and the trebles got me in the hand just like that spani mack did you! I also ripped the hook out with my needlenose. Hurt like heck coming out and I was outthere fishing by myself with strong wind blowing the boat around and a 4 pound fish hanging from my hand. That Smoked Mackerel looked great!!! Dinner at BlueGabe's is up there High on the Bucketlist!!!

Pecks Lake/The Hole - Potato/Patatoe Awesome video #BlueGabe keep’m comin! There’s a hammerhead that migrates there thats ALL OF 17/18 FEET LONG!! We used to put a buoy on a spanmack and hook him so we all knew where he was. But we were netting the fish back in the day. How’s your hand doing? I thought you got bit at first!! Not sure which would be worse? Mackerel bite or Hook deep in the hand?

I wish this wind would lay down some more, then maybe I could get out there. My carolina skiff only has a 50 so I like a little more calm going out the inlet. I was out there a month ago, we trolled from just outside the inlet all the way up to pecs lake and got a few on the way up. Got a 26" and 28" right where you were and lost a bigger one to a straightened hook. Maybe I can make it out there next weekend. Love the local content. Would love to see a gigging trip in stuart or jensen beach.

You should try the Greek way to cook dark fish like mackeral. Take a clay pot (or a Dutch oven) put in whole or crushed tomatoes, onions, garlic, oregano, salt, pepper, olives, green peppers (or hot peppers) celery and cook it in the oven until the flavors meld. It is awesome!!

i went fishing for these one time. had such a fantastic time. Then one fell on my foot and i ended up with 2 gashes. kept fishing for a bit nd later got like 9+ stitches when i went to the hospital. Still say it was one of the best time fishing i ever had :) Also one of the best fishes to eat imo, i eat them cut up as rolls.

Great video! I did the same thing with a big trout hook went almost all the way through. Could see it on the other side. Had to push it the rest of the way through and cut the barn off then pull it out. I don't know who thinks Spanish mackerel aren't good but whoever it is is crazy. Last time I was down in the gulf I was catching them on the beach with a worm hook and a zoom horny toad. It was crazy just thousands of them right on the beach. Reeling in one after another. Yeah the mosquitos are no joke in Florida. All y'all's mosquitos come here to Alabama after every big storm that comes through. Great video!

Gabe . After burying a big bass hook and a trip to the ER . I keep surgical cutters and pliers with me . Cut hook . Push through . No pulling . No further tissue damage . If your quick it will stay numb for 2 minutes or so after your "rookie move ".

Those Pickle Jalapenos that you use I use to buy also and I ate a lot of them right out of the jar and they go REALLY GOOD WITH TUNA Fish, I use mayonnaise and McCormick ground peppers on top, make a sandwich

I did the same thing with a strike king 1.5 square bill last year and let me tell you the braid trick to pulling a hook out works. You won't even feel it coming out even when its buried all the way.

ive been there. no one can understand that feeling. I was buoy sword fishing and got an 8/0 4X offset in my hand. The worst is when you hit that barb and you either gotta just pull as hard as you can or leave it. My buddy had to take it out for me and he literally had to put his foot on my hand to keep me still enough. Wrapped it up with tape. put two gloves on and caught 4 more swords that night(hand-lining!).

I love Mackerel! You can make Gravlax out of it or Japanese Cured Mackerel (They call it Saba) if you're not into the Sashimi route.

We smoke are filets of mackerel and use the backbone with the meat on it to deep fry... monster spinner shark was awesome got to love peck's lake suprising no dolphins around with all then mac's....
