It's funny. Somewhere is a bus or a train going from A to B and Americans are "wuahh there is a massive public transport system. that's incredible."

The transport system in Spain is very good. It is very organised and It can take anywhere you want.

Madrid´s public transport is not very much like that, actually.

@@dsti-xi7dl which is what makes it worse. Public transit is supposed to get better as you get into a bigger city. The fact that NYC is out done by a "small town" puts nyc to shame.

You have to take into consideration that Europe is an old continent. Probably most houses in Spain have a history that goes back many centuries, even before the USA existed...SO, obvs some things are traditional and that's why the beauty and charm of Europeans is really A THING

I'm sorry, but outskirts trains (renfe) in Barcelona are a total disgrace.

Tss, Spanish Rail is horrible !! A friend had to go from San Sebastian in the north to Valladolid. Only 5 trains per day (and that's the line for Madrid, right)! In Basque Countries there are no trains Bilbao-San Sebastian and Bilbao-VitoriaGasteiz !! (distances 100km and 65km !). and 5 per day between SanSebastian and Vitoria Gasteiz ..! How is that possible! For Bil-VitGas they only have to lay 20km of track for a direct cut. For Bil-SSeb 50km...🙄 (For example in the not so populated north of Netherlands there are 4 trains per hour between two northern provincie capitals Leeuwarden and Groningen with 100k and 200k pop. !)

There’s no physical track that connects all 3 cities. Yet. They are building one as we speak, they call it the ‘Basque Y’.

@@lalalalelele5320 If you live in LaLa land , yes.... '5 trains per day from Donostia to Vitoria and Valladolid/Madrid ! ' And if you need to hub somewhere you need to wait for half a day. I am talking about nationwide rail here, not the Madrid or Barcelona subways. The 'Basque Y' will be an improvement, but for a european gauge HSR line the travel time between Donostia and Vitoria is still like a 140 kmh train... And if they still go 5x a day you'll often have to wait on hubs for ages on so bare station without shelter against the weather.. Besides that, due to political/corruption decisions, AVE scores really bad on (financial) performances (making losses) compared with TGV, ICE and Italian hsr..

@@allws9683 Netherland is soo tiny that anything you put in there talking about trains looks like a lot. Spain is like 12 times and a half the size of Netherlands. Only the subway kilometers network built at only one city, Madrid, would almost be enough to go trough te hole country in a straight line.
@allws9683
@allws9683 3 года назад
@@danielh234 That is irrelevant. I compared the Basque Countries with the 3 northern dutch provinces, which have the same dimensions and population. With a difference that a higher portion of Basques live in the 3 cities, which is even better for train transport. And it is in one language region, so there will be a lot of inter-relations. Furthermore, the distances between Vitoria-Burgos-Palencia-Valladolid are commutable journeys, so there is no reason not to have a 60 minute service, instead of 5 a day. 'bigger' countries like France and Germany have 60 or 30 minute services, outside the metropole regions, even between cities
