My mom shared with me that, when she was a kid, she was told/believed that ghosts and such couldn't hurt you if you were singing. So she'd sing at the top of her lungs whenever she got spooked rofl I immediately thought of this movie/song and had to look it up!
I believed that the bad things that lived under my bed couldn’t get me if the light was on, or if music was playing, or if I was singing. I imagined that the girl inside the body bag in the original nightmare on elm street couldn’t get me, if any of those conditions existed. I would sing all the time until I fell asleep as a result 😂 no idea where these ideas came from- maybe this film? Also, don’t let your kids watch scary stuff like nightmare on elm street.

If you were the Queen in the movie, you wouldn't be knighting anyone, or doing much of anything, cause you'd be dead. The nanny mentions at one point that Irene's mother is dead. Now, the King could do it. But the Queen ain't doing shit.

Myself included, friend. I always remember being little little and whenever I would be scared in the dark at night alone I would sing this song out loud and felt so safe and protected. Really so beautiful ❤ This is easily a song I still think about at 30 years old whenever I am feeling a darkness coming on, only as an adult it’s not just from the unknowns of the darkness of night anymore. But it still gives me that magical peace and power. Proudly, I wave my own ‘lantern’ of protection! I would LOVE to hear other covers of this song too. I may have to just make one myself :)

I loved this movie when I was little and would watch it all the time! Which was a pain because I had it on VHS and it took forever to rewind a movie when you're a child 😂 It was, and still is, a favorite classic to me! But to be honest, that goblin cat always scared the living crap out of me! Especially that scene where it sneaks into Irene's room at night to attack.

This and Little Nemo were my favorites growing up. I even gained an interest in environmentalism because of the ads in the beginning with the grandma. I hope to show this movie to my own family one day!

During an online role playing session, our group was fighting monsters underground and one person who played a magical bard made a huge, amazing entrance by marching down into the underground playing her instrument and singing this song. And because it was a spell it actually effected the monsters like it does the goblins in the movie. I was so happy to learn almost everyone there was a fan of this movie like me.
This movie is stellar. It's just too bad it was released (in the US) the same month as The Lion King. Still a favorite of mine! If well done, this would make an excellent Broadway.
