Personally, I wouldn't leave the holes open that long. I would replace one spark plug at a time and put the new one is as soon as I pulled the old one out. Leaving the plugs out increases the danger of debris falling into the engine cylinder.

True, plus if you do one plug at a time there's no chance of hooking up the wrong wire to the wrong plug.

I spoke to Toyota about the anti freeze grease for spark plugs. And they don't recommend using it for spark plugs. They recommended to torque them to specs to avoid them from getting stuck. So, I think that's why they did not include anti freeze grease in the package.

Hi Austin thank you for sharing that information, I suppose that the reason for this is that you do not want to put copaslip, first some people will put too much and can end up in the electrode, another reason is that people tend to overtighten it more, some manufactures already make the spark plugs with a plating that avoids corrosion, however as old school mechanic and for any old car or if you do not change your spark plugs regularly I will recommend putting a really small layer always help, so when you are going to remove them in a long time, they are not stuck thank you

It's very easy to over tighten the plugs when the threads are lubricated by anti-seize!

Your old spark plugs still seem to be in excellent condition from what I can see. Considering the Prius engine isn't running 100% of the time unlike a conventional engine, the change interval should be twice as much.

Yes that is, however the car was misfiring a little bit, so I did the whole tune up and it was due by mileage, but thank you for your recommendation

@@quikdiy7134 I'm glad you mentioned misfiring. I have a 2014 Prius C, 3 with 88,250 miles. Today it trembled a bit upon starting, first time ever. I also feel like it feels (imagine if it was a manual car) like it cant shift from 3rd to 4th/5th. Any ideas? Thank you so much

@@richardking6066 Same. I replaced mine at 130K just for safety and they all looked like they could last a bit longer. Just wanted to keep the engine happy for the remainder of what I wanted to keep the car i.e. until I junk it at 200k+ miles.

I squirt a little carb or brake cleaner around the plugs. Yhis will run into the threads as you start to losen the plugs - lubricating them and removing some of the gunk. On refitting I use a little ceramic or other anti-seize grease. (being careful not to over tighten the plugs!)

Hey I was unable to unplug the coil connectors - they are really stuck. Manage to replace 3 spark plugs without disconnecting though. Any tips how to unplug them without breaking - you did it almost effortlessly

Wiggle it with a lot of patience if is broken already this people sell all the connectors if you are in the usa. Www.godaca.com they are also in ebay and amazon the sku number for this connector is 01020101000639. We work with them godaca.com/1x-connector-4-way-4-pin-for-ignition-coil-90980-11885-w-out-wire/

Thanks for the video. Did you look up the torque setting and whether to grease or not in the repair manual?
@quikdiy7134
@quikdiy7134 2 года назад
Hi I did not look at the torque specs sorry for not including, however I am pretty sure you can find that info online. Regarding putting copper grease is standard from an airplane to a car when you want to avoid rust and being stuck when you want to replace them again
@ysanj
@ysanj 2 месяца назад
I don't have the repair manual. The Toyota Owner's Manual does not mention a torque setting for spark plug. But Denso, the OEM, does, I found their table online. According to one user, these spark plugs are 14mm Flat Seat, so Torque needed is 15-22 lb-ft (20-30 Nm). Recommendation is to not grease the threads because with grease it will be easy to over-tighten and damage the threads in the Al block. If you do use grease, cut the torque setting by 50%, so this user used 11 lb-ft.

Nice question. But honestly I don't remember exactly which. One it was I would say it was about 8 inches plus the long spark plugs socket. Thank you for asking

Spark plugs are about $60 for 4. Unless you’re changing the ignition coils. That’s expensive. That’s not a bad deal if it’s coils and spark plugs . Coils are about $50 -$60 a coil.
@alvy_k
@alvy_k Год назад
Hi, is that a deep socket or a regular one?
@quikdiy7134
@quikdiy7134 Год назад
Hello any long socket 5/8 will do the job, the difference beetwen a regular socket and a spark plug socket is that the spark plug socket has a rubber internally that create more friction around the spark plug to remove them completely from the engine once they are completely loosened avoiding falling from the socket by gravity, however if you font have a specific spark socket, use a regular socket and then grab with the same ignition coil rubber, thank you

@@quikdiy7134 Hi, thank you for quick reply! I'm looking to buy one but all I can find are magnetic spark plug sockets - are they good?
@quikdiy7134
@quikdiy7134 Год назад
I dont have any personal experiencie i think it should be ok as long the magnet is strong enough, but like i said you can use a regular socket and after is loosened use the coil itself to grab the sparkplug 👍👍😜

The Prius manual recommends 120000 miles, but I would say as the car ages this will vary, because. Other components as oil leaks. Faulty oxygen sensors, etc. Might change this interval
