You missed the retort! Here I'll finish it for ya Colbert. Bernie Sanders: "We are spending twice as much per capita on health care as the Canadians or any other major country on earth." Joe Biden: "This is America." Bernie Sanders: "Yeah, but Americans don't want to pay twice as much as other countries."
That really was the oddest response. Was he saying that Americans can easily afford to pay twice as much? Was he saying that Americans want to pay twice as much just so they can say they're not those sissy socialist countries? What exactly did "This is America" mean?
And US is 10 times larger than Canada by population so Medicare for All should be a lot cheaper than it is in Canada per capita. That's the logic of insurance. (Economies of scale)
@@an5192 I agree with you on principle, and am a big supporter of MfA. As someone who works in healthcare, I do want to say that we have an issue here that Canada and Europe do not - and that is a culture of healthcare for profit. Of the ten or so doctors I've worked for, less than half could I say I felt sure were not in it for the money. And, to a degree, I can't blame them - not when their college tuitions cost them six figures. Address the cost of education alongside public healthcare, and we may just inspire a massive cultural shift in our healthcare industry over maybe ten years or so. For now though, because the prices of healthcare services reflect a need to pay high doctor salaries and profits, I have doubts about how much MfA can reduce the overall cost - but to the average American, it's certainly a lifesaver.
It will show up in the primaries, not necessarily in the polls. He built the infrastructure in 2016 and has worked consistently on it, nobody has his ground game. I am quite convinced he will win the primaries and Warren will drop out, right now they are splitting a lot of the same polling numbers.

Socialism is used in Venzuela, social democracy is used in places like Scandinavia, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, countries which often rank high in list of countries with the lowest income inequality, highest standard of living, and the worlds happiest countries. And as for your question about paying for Sanders' proposals, let's start with his Medicare for all plan. A UBI, while a nice idea, is not remotely feasible in the near future with the skyrocketing deficit and recent $1.5 trillion tax cut for the wealthy. While it would benefit the economy, there are far better, more feasible and more likely ways to do that, such as a wealth tax, a marginal tax of 60-70% on highest earners and a boost to the Fed minimum wage which hasn't been raised in more than 10 YEARS. Then we could forgive a lot of student debt which would also boost the economy significantly because thousands of students would be putting that $20k-150k back into the economy instead of paying off loans. There's no way a UBI would EVER get passed with any Republicans still in Congress, they won't even allow people to have basic healthcare or a living wage, you think they're gonna let people just get free money? Fuck no they won't. Because of his past, middle America and disenfranchised Trump voters view him as too far left, even if he isn't any more. Not fair, but true. Gun control, health care, immigration, and climate change; absolutely none of that matters if our candidate can't beat Trump. The one candidate that can beat Trump is Andrew Yang. Here is a schedule of state primaries, don't forget to vote for Yang in yours. www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/us/elections/2020-presidential-election-calendar.html?auth=login-smartlock
In 2016, I voted Bernie in the primary, but no more! The #BernieOrBust crowd got us "bust" and screwed all women, latinos, immigrants, and all Americans with preexisting conditions. Bernie never even admitted Putin backed him against Clinton, even though it's as crystal clear as Putin backing Don the Con. Warren has my support this time around.
Because he IS the front runner. I know he's too Republican for everyone's liking but everyone longs for Obama's touch. What polls is he tanking, anyway?
Because they are trying to trick the DNC voters into believing Sanders doesn't have a chance... but he is the true front runner. When he is President they will still pretend he isn't. They are afraid of Bernie's revolution.
Trump won because of the rust belt. People forget that. Some people don't understand that people voted for Trump because they are desperate. Their jobs have been outsourced and they can't afford their prescriptions. Of course they are going to vote for the candidate that says I will give you the best and cheapest health insurance and your jobs are coming back because we are making America great again. Why would anyone in the rust belt who lost jobs due to outsourcing vote for a guy who was for Nafta and TPP? We need a candidate who is strong on jobs to get the rust belt votes.
I understand treating all of them equally, but Stephen is better than making fun of people for things they cannot help, especially someone working as hard as Bernie Sanders.
They don't want to talk about Warren or Sanders but Sanders to them is worse because Warren although she goes far for us she doesn't go far enough while Biden is at least a corporate democrat and literally stands for lack of change
Colbert's mimicry is hilarious. He nails Trump and his 'Bernie' is dead on. The "bumblebee" 🐝and "anaphylactic shock" 🤯 remarks had me on the floor. O..M..G! 🤣🐝
@C-Ann W ha ha Bernie Sanders just wants healthcare and education for all.. Perteey basic stuff that other developed nations have and their citizens are happy to pay for it.
Why didn't they play the whole Biden clip where it explains why kids need to be around the record player? I'll just post it here: In the second hour of the debate, ABC correspondent Linsey Davis asked Biden to reflect on a remark he made in the 1970s: “I don’t feel responsible for the sins of my father and grandfather. I feel responsible for what the situation is today, for the sins of my own generation, and I’ll be damned if I feel responsible to pay for what happened 300 years ago.” Davis said to Biden, “You said that some 40 years ago, but as you stand here tonight, what responsibility do you think that Americans need to take to repair the legacy of slavery in our country?” Biden’s answer was staggeringly incoherent, obscuring, to his own benefit, what was, underneath, a horrifyingly racist answer. Here’s his whole response: "Well, they have to deal with the - look, there’s institutional segregation in this country. And from the time I got involved, I started dealing with that. Redlining, banks, making sure we are in a position where - look, you talk about education. I propose that what we take the very poor schools, the Title I schools, triple the amount of money we spend from $15 to $45 billion a year. Give every single teacher a raise to the $60,000 level. Number two, make sure that we bring in to help the teachers deal with the problems that come from home. The problems that come from home. We have one school psychologist for every 1,500 kids in America today. It’s crazy. The teachers are - I’m married to a teacher, my deceased wife is a teacher. They have every problem coming to them. Make sure that every single child does, does in fact, have 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds go to school. Not day care, school. We bring social workers into homes of parents to help them deal with how to raise their children. It’s not that they don’t want to help, they don’t want - they don’t know quite what to do. Play the radio, make sure the television - excuse me, make sure you have the record player on at night, the phone - make sure that kids hear words. A kid coming from a very poor school - a very poor background - will hear 4 million words fewer spoken by the time they get there." That's way worse than Julian breaking decorum.
So basically his plan to help heal the racial divide in this country is to make children listen to just any random words? Kind of sounds like he wanted to just say they just have to deal with it at first, and then dodged the question.
