Eaten by the Monster of Love may be the most underrated pop song of all time from the most underrated band of all time. Can’t get enough of it, incredible performance here.
And i remember their song angst in my pants on the radio and when i saw valley girl ack in high school. I disovered eaten by the monster of love in valley girl a couple of years ago when i hadnt seen it since like 83-84 high school year i think, which in my opinion is by far the best song these guys did. The part in Valley Girl where the song plays, along with the intro to the movie song by is PERFECT EDITING..( most of the obscure songs in valley girl by Bonnie hays are some INCREDIBLE songs. ) .Great show. And finally I Predict I dont think I remember but im not sure is A great song also. Plus all thses off-the-wall songs in 70's. Great discovery by me.
If means nothing. It couldn't be so it wasn't. And incidentally, no, as the internet is only there to make useless shitheads like Lily Allen, George Ezra, Adele & Beiber that.
I gotta give Dick props for not glossing over the album title; I think he got a kick out of it. And to say he doesn't put much faith in Rolling Stone? That's pretty badass.
i just saw these guys a few days ago live for the first time at the walt disney concert hall, i hope i get to see them live a million more times :) long live the brothers mael!!!!
These guys are absolute geniuses of music& theater!! Especially Ron!! Its like he already had an idea how the footage was going to look before it was shot and knew how FUCKING FUNNY this shit was gonna look!!! And they're both musical Masters their day of recognition has DEFINITELY come!! These dudes invented Meming and social media imagery long before it was ever dreamed up!! Sparks is such an incredible band!!! I hope you guys are still doing music well past turning 100!! Cuz to see these kats today you'd never think they're both in their 70's!!!?? They've got very youthful spirits and I can see that carrying them for many more years to come!! I wanna catch these guys in concert!!! Rock long and PROSPER Sparks!!!
Couldn't agree more. Incredible. Been following them for more than nearly 50 years mate. They are amazing. And so youthful in there 70s. Miss them when they are gone.!!!!!!
For forking sure. This guy was killing it. Mad dogging Dick Clark sporting the Charlie Chaplin/Oliver Hardy Stash, style points all Day, and the and sounded fierce.
Thats how i sort of discovered this band , but i do remember the song angst in my pants, the monster of love is their best. Right where the put that song in the movie valley girl was perfect!
i had this record (a fairly large acrylic, wax or in the "super old days"- shellac disk that required a special player with a needle and tone arm to decode the processed signals LOL)...I remember when my dad first saw the album cover (with the two dudes...one in a wedding dress)..he straight up audibled "WTF?" i dont remember much else from the conversation LOL ahhh to be the son of a USMC MP..
I have never seen this Sparks footage before. Really enjoyed it. I went to a couple of their gigs where they did a great version of No 1 song in Heaven.
Can we talk about Russell's voice? He goes from falsetto to bass to tenor. Able to adapt to all genres, pop rock punk. Amazing instrument. Plus his genuine buoyant friendly open personality. And smart!
1982! The year I graduated, and I never heard of these guys until the mid 80s! Lol..I was into Michael Jackson, Cheap Trick, Hall and Oates, Pat Benatar lol.. then new wave, alternative rock starting playing more on MTV, and I was hooked! Now MTV keeps playing that Ridiculousness show over and over or some movie with music. What's the point of MTV still being on? The first time I saw MTV was in '81, Huey Lewis and the News was on.. I thought that's the strangest name for a music group! Lol.
I'm always quoting this, only other Sparks heads know what I'm on about.. highly relevant in the last 18 months, Trump would probs have confirmed this theory 🦠
I don't know if there's an expression in English, but in Swedish we've got "allt klär en skönhet" = anything becomes a beauty. I don't know... But anyway 😉😉😉😂 Oh Russell... 💕In this case a victim of the eighties.
I played in a band in Calgary and one of the other bands had a guy (guitarist and backup singer) whose facial expressions made people watch him. Kind of interesting, but added nothing to the music. Here it works somewhat.
um... i'm pretty sure they are playing along with a track. the vocals, the drum playing (doesn't hit the cymbals very hard and when he does he chokes it) and the sound of the drums that cannot be reproduced on a percussion set (7:34 and 7:36), and the fade out. this is totally not live and I think Ron does not like it...
