They actually started in 1969 as Halfnelson, but became Sparks in 1972 and then emigrated to the UK in 1974 after scoring cult success in LA and Montgomery (Alabama). The rest is history. :)
All I have to say is that first impression here is that Russell sounds a little off and out of breath. I wonder if he was going through a rough spell professionally and personally, but I am so overjoyed that he obviously came out of it, and am stoked about seeing them tomorrow night!!
I already thought this was epic, then I noticed they have a working fountain on their stage. That adds even more epic points. Also, is Russell wearing pajamas? It kinda looks like he is...lol cute!

Hey - my favourite pieces of them in one video. Though Russel's singing is not quite on top, as he doesn't seem to hit the notes and indeed is out of breath sometimes. But- being a singer myself - I know it's definitely NOT possible to dance around AND to sing correctly simultaneously ;-) And "This Town" IS, indeed, difficult to sing, and my, Ron plays it quite fast here!!
