Sparks - The Rhythm Thief (Official Video) 

Same! Saw it last weekend! So many of my favorite artists share some much with Sparks. Such as Of Montreal and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They all share a deep discography spanning multiple genres with imaginative, yet relatable lyrics that balance the fine line of humor and tragedy. I’ve binged 10 Sparks albums in the past week! Surprisingly, Music That You Can Dance To is my current favorite album.

Saw The Sparks Brothers earlier this week. I remember seeing their performance of 'This Town Ain't Big Enough on Top of The Pops in 1975 (I was 9) and loved their stuff through the 70's but then my attention went elsewhere in the 80's and I had no idea of the amazing body of work they have built up. They've always been observant, playful and quirky, but I adore the fact that in recent years their music and Ron Mael's lyrics have often trodden a darker path and 'Rhythm Thief' is the perfect example of that. As soon as I was aware of the media fuss surrounding the documentary, I knew I had to watch it and it's one of the best things I have ever seen! Have been compelled to listen to every album and binge-watch as much video content as I can find! Can someone get around to achieving cellular renewal, so that we can enjoy them forever? I mean their music will forever be immortalised, along with their reputation and influence, but after hearing some of the fantastic stuff they've been producing in the last 15 years, I just want them to continue Ad Infinitum!

@@milk_bath I've never heard of those 3 names you mentioned, but I don't see how anything from the long dead decade of music (died around 1990 and still VERY VERY ONGOINGLY DEAD FOREVER MORE) can sound anything like Sparkies! Maybe something like Bon Jovi or Take That or Nirvana or Beatles yeh, that shit's easy! And-well-shit!

They were even more unique AFTER the 70s! In fact I'd say 1979 9their last 70s record was where they began making truly cool and great records, once all that dated glam 70s things had gone.

Their 70's stuff remins me of Roxy Music a lot. In spite of my love to Sparks I'd rather prefer Roxy Music.

It's the same directors as to the official video for 'The Calm Before The Storm' ('Balls' 2000) Kuntzel + Deygas.

How things 'Change' ay, as everyone ignored when it came out. But the album before it-"Balls"-is massively overlooked!

@@annabackman3028 I struggle with that one most of all their post-1978 stuff. Apart from the singles the songs seem to just go on too long without making their point and true immersion as yet evades me. I think too much of the "Lil Beethoven" period beforehand is hanging about in here when it shouldn't.

There used to be a much better HD upload back around 2008 before Sparks had an official channel, and it had a larger amount of views, but was taken down. This official upload is much poorer quality unfortunately but because it's the only vid available now 9 years after the album was released, I can understand the low view count

@@AliasUndercover, like the album 'No. 1 In Heaven', which was placed in a pile of other recordings no-one really didn't know what to do with. In this case, how to label it! Luckily some-one else found it, listened and put it in the presses! Question is, why must everything have a label? Music, any art, even people? 🤔 Does it really matter if an artist makes blues, soul, rock, pop or whatever, as long as we like it? (As well as how people look or talk, as long as they don't assalt or disturb others. As in 'The Ghost Of Liberace'.)

Baroque pop has been around for ages, most notably Neil Hannon's Divine Comedy which I think might have had some inspiration from Spark's irreverence. Does not make it any less groundbreaking or intelligent though.

The genre of music Sparks make is just "Sparks". Or you could also say "The Typical Sparks Mishmash", like Russell called it himself in an interview. ;-)

still havent made it to a sparks concert. came close last year but didnt find out til the day before . and a two hr one way drive....would have been worth it. correct that i did see their angst in my pants tour....must be getting old

No synths?? It's only synths, but no drum sound expect from the kettle-drums, which can be the synthiziser as well.
