Sparks - We Are The Clash (Official Visualizer) 

Unfortunately 'long live the Clash' isn't possible for obvious reasons ....unless they 'do a Queen' & get a talent show contender in as an ill conceived 'replacement frontman'.?

@@andchat6241 Just a figure of speech, as in "may their music never be forgotten". I actually read that they almost did a tour with Billy Idol as a replacement, but it fell through :)

@@JayFulcanelli--111 Billy Idol ? !! - my goodness. But the Clash music will live on.... Though I'm sick of hearing 'London Calling' used on TV ,films ,ads by people who have clearly never actually listened to or read the apocalyptic lyrics in the song !

My words exacly.... They took a track consigned to the dustbin of irrelevance and somehow eked out the gold lurking below the surface. Covering a Clash song can be seen as almost sacreligious - but covering a crap Clash song and making it actually better than the original while also turning it into an artistic statement, is bind bendingly brilliant!!!

If you get the chance to see them live, GO! Saw them in Toronto 02 Apr 2022 - smashingly brilliant two-hour show; the unending creativtiy of those two is incredible. I rediscovered them when the Edgar Wright documentary (which is brilliant) came up as a recommend last year, and it's been a fantastic rabbit hole of Sparks since then.

yes, the songs were melodically good, yes, produced terribly - this is england not only the best song on the lp, but also sounding sonically better than all the others. But the lp also felt a bit dated in attitude even at that time, strummer trying desperately to hold onto the revolutionary punk ethos to the point of sounding dusty and naive. I did like Earthquake Weather very much, and his work with the Mescalraros was sublime.

Those songs worked a lot better live when they were originally aired on the Out of Control tour in early 84

But the lyrics were truly terrible- lacking any subtlety or belief ,the dreadful synth heavy beat box mix made nearly everything unlistenable ,& as for dressing up in kings rd punk threads..... in 1985 !!...what can u say? & having 3 members who were 'employees of the Clash' - on a weekly retainer....umm.. I'm just relieved i made the decision not to see them live anymore ( people do forget The Clash was Mick Jones's group) Strummer deserved as much blame as cowriter Rhodes .. & JS did claim 'producers rights & payments' under a rather unconvincing false name..Jose Unidos wasnt it? if the record had been cut mostly live on a scaled down home studio style( like London Calling was initially considered) if may have been an improvement... They wrote 1 excellent song after Jones- 'in the pouring rain' , if they just released that & maybe 'this is England ' or 'life is wild' ? as a 7" then called it a day , it would have been something . But 'Cut the Crap' ? they certainly did ,a whole lps worth..
