The Spartan 3 augmentation process is fascinating if you grasp the basic science, and would seem much more repeatable and ethical. The augmentation that required "Smoothers" at regular intervals was not worth the trade-off though. The authors who laid down the canon of the Spartan IIIs really did their research. Myostatin suppression and bone ossification is something we are researching now.

I always liked the SIIIs. The represented the state of humanity perfectly at that point in time. Desperate, ferocious, feral, ridiculously violent, and adrenaline personified. The SIIs grew up enjoying relative peace and stability while the SIIIs only knew war, chaos, and doom. To me, they were always ever so slightly more badass than the SIIs. And unlike the SIVs, they actaully showed respect for their elders (SIIs).

I think we sympathise more with the Spartan III's than the God like II's; III's were young men and women who lost everything because of the Covenant, their homes glassed, their families massacred, they volunteered willingly because of this. The II's were abducted before the Human Covenant War and used against insurrectionists who were once their very own neighbors, most II's are probably hopeful that their families are still alive; III's didn't have that luxury, so they were burning for vengeance, revenge for their brothers, for their sisters, their fathers and their mothers.
@Sanya6496
@Sanya6496 5 лет назад
All this doesn't mke the 2's any less effective. Actually I think if the 2's had this revenge and had indoctornation in addition to the augmentations and training, the 3's would probably be the best breed of supersoldiers ever made by the UNSC.
@Stratonetic
@Stratonetic 5 лет назад
@@Sanya6496 I never mentioned effectiveness, I just pointed out that people probably sympathise with the III's more than the II's, being that the II's never saw their biological families fall to the Covenant, only their brothers and sisters in arms, they were abducted early on in their childhoods, some as old as six years and were indoctrinated into their military career, that's a fancy way of saying that they were told that what they were doing was for the greater good, the II's became their own family, maybe even closer than they could ever get to their biological families, but the III's were older when they volunteered, there is a big difference between being a volunteer and being illegally drafted, the III's did this to get back at the Covenant for what they did to them, they didn't care about the UNSC that much, or ONI either, they watched their families be slaughtered and had their blood splashed in their face, but the II's were made to fight insurrectionists quite literally in their own backyard, they didn't have the luxury of knowing their families or even if they were still alive, the III's knew their families were either dead or suffering, this is what drove them to join the UNSC. I will say though, with the neural interface that the II's possess and with the communication network, Spartan II's were effectively telepaths and these links between them could not be severed or blocked easily, so if you as a Spartan II were to suddenly spot an enemy, every other member of their team would know exactly where it is too, or if a Spartan II were to die, the others would know and could possibly feel it, this may be an advantage over the III's, and maybe other generations, I do think these augmentations did make II's outperform III's, but there are psychological setbacks that probably also occurred, I mean, any normal human would be traumatized if they could literally hear their friend's sporadic last dying thoughts as they can also feel the sensation of their friend's wound slowly creeping over them because simply one of them thought of the other; think of that feeling, to know that in their last moments, they thought of you and they couldn't break that link until it was brutally broken with nothing but echoes left for a response, this must had brought on night terrors or even paranoia in some II's, perhaps even the night terrors and social disabilities in Spartan II's are shared because of these linked senses, it is hard to control one's thoughts once unconscious, stressed or approaching death.

For as much as I love the IIs, there's just something about the IIIs that make them my favorite. I think it's just the sheer courage, heart, and backbone that they had to do their missions that they knew they would never return from just because no one else would and for the greater good.
@Dd-fb2tj

The important thing to realize for all the Halo fans who lean on master-chief nostalgia a bit too heavily, is that the 3's augmentations are NEVER stated to be worse than the spartan 2's. as mentioned here, they represented a "quantum leap" (though perhaps referring to survival rate efficiency)...also readers of ghosts of Onyx will know they were designed to be better trained and even KURT called his training troop "the finest spartans ever"....the fact that they were designed in mass and they (mostly) were only given SPI armour doesn't take away how effective they were OUT of armor.
@ajduong
@ajduong 7 месяцев назад
This, and the fact that it's repeatedly asserted IIIs like Noble 6 could probably be a match for the Masterchief. The IIIs were no slouch (maybe a small drop from IIs) but a primary reason for their casualty rates was that they were given primarily suicide missions that the IIs couldn't be given because of how costly they were. There's no evidence the IIs would have fared better in the same situation
@East_Coast_Toasty_Boy

"never stated" bro they were cheaper to cut costs. Not saying they were completely bad, just not as good as the 2s enhancements as far as performance (except a handful) it was only better in survivability, which is obviously important.

They may be effectively the same augmentation wise they aren't psychologically. 2s are literal machines, whereas 3s are prone to emotional outbursts that can cause brash decisions. Emile is a great example. 2s are generally more effective warriors because of this, where a 3 may see a child losing their parents and go berserk and get themself killed, a 2 would kill all of the covenant calmly and strategically. It isn't all about who is actually stronger

I never understood why people thought that Spartan IIs augmentations were superior to Spartan IIIs. Just because one procedure is more invasive and risky then the other does it mean that it's more effective. The Spartan III program came about 10 years after the Spartan IIs; this is alot of time to discover more efficient procedures for augmentation. For example, here's an analogy; compare a modern day phone to one from 10 years ago, and guess which one is superior. The same can be said about the Spartans. Not to mention Spartan IIIs had tougher training regiments than each generation before. Therefore I believe that Spartan IIIs are more than worthy of the title of "Spartan".

I think that the best of the Spartans 3s are comparable to the best of the spartan 2s. With the the three squads of Gamma Company in Onyx fight on par and possibly surpassing Blue team(I haven’t read ghosts of Onyx, just read the descriptions of the battle and the descriptions of S-3 program.) I do believe that the next level down is where it’s gets a bit hazier. The spartan 2 were genetically superior but the S3s has a tougher training regimen. But the S2s were trained as spec ops teams and undertook missions that were on par with what Noble team and headhunters undertook I believe. Whereas the S3s were trained as more frontline infantry that were expected to die. However, this is because they were deliberately put in situations where there was an enormous chance of death with less than a 40% chance of survival and still completed their mission. So overall I’d say the average S2 is less effective then the average S3.

It's no wonder that I feel like if the SPARTAN-III program could've been the ultimate culmination of what a Spartan was. (At the time). They could've potentially been even stronger than the II's. Even better, even faster. They're disciplined but not machine like. What holds them back is they're age and their lack of resources, Aka MJOLNIR. I believe the way the III's were treated as disposable was a "gross misallocation of valuable resources".

Spartan 3s were just buying time for humanity. Maybe we can delay this planet from being glassed for a couple more months or years, or hell, maybe we can kill as many covenant as we can so more people can escape and live on. That was the general idea behind the Spartan 3s.

Spartan 3's were made to be expendable just to buy humanity more time. Headhunters for example, while normally not surviving their missions, can easily determine whether a planet gets glassed within a year, or delay it by several more years (or save the planet entirely) by going deep behind enemy lines and taking out critical targets. The loss of a Spartan 2 was simply not an option due to the amount of resources invested in them and the fact that they're the only effective thing humanity had to offer against the Covenant, so they would normally not get those type of suicide missions.

If the Forerunners had what they considered a super soldier how strong and combat ready would you think they would be? My guess would be they would be wearing any kind of armor above Tier-12 because that's standard Forerunner soldier armor and we can already speculate how tough that combat Skin is but I bet a Forerunner super soldier would be like a walking space ship with super strength, speed, and super advanced Forerunner technology augmentations they would be almost unstoppable in the field of battle likely needing weapons above megatons of destructive force that are constrainted blasts to stop them. Maybe a new quote saying "Forerunner super soldiers never die they just go missing in action." Would be pretty nice.

Here’s a really cool idea for a Halo mission. The Covenant have infiltrated a secret ONI base. Stolen technology from Alpha, Delta, and Gamma Halo alongside the Ark is located in the base. Blue Team are deployed to destroy the Covenant forces and recover the Forerunner weapons. After killing lots of Grunts, Jackals and Skirmishers, Brutes, Elites, Engineers, and a swarm of Drones Blue Team enters near the inner section of the base they encounter static on their huds and an armored face briefly appears and says “You demons have killed many of those faithful in the Great Journey. Without you your kind would’ve fallen. You humans continue to mess and meddle with what the gods gifted us. It’s time for your meddling to stop. We are the rightful owners of their gifts not you. I never got the chance to face you in battle during the Great War and now my chance has finally come. My entire family was destroyed when the Holy City was consumed by the parasite and destroyed on the birthplace of the Holy Rings. If you all want these gifts of the gods you all will have to come get them. And I will be waiting for you.” After the transmission ends the experienced lore fans will be yelling at the tops of their lungs when they realize that the being was a San Shyumm Prelate. The regular players are shocked and have massive goosebumps when they realize that was a new enemy never seen before in a Halo game. After Blue Team goes down an elevator they see through the glass that 12 Hunters, and 8 Serpentine Red Hunter Majors stand guard around a massive Forerunner structure that ONI designated as a “weapons container”. Blue Team also notices on their HUD strange Forerunner symbols that lead to some unknown Forerunner weapons near the bottom of the elevator and they notice a lot of The Answer SAW lmgs, Halo CE Magnums, ARs with underslung nade launchers, and SPNKRs that Fred says fire rockets like the High Five launcher from Halo 5. Blue Team is equipped with Jetpacks and they can sprint like in Halo 4. The Hunters aren’t op like they are in Halo 5 but they can smack nades out of the air and the red ones can doge nades being thrown at them and their shots can track like in Halo 5. But a few shots to the back or melees can kill them. Once all the Hunters have died. A portal appears from the Forerunner artifact and a Gold Hunter pair shows up with 4 Ultra Elder Hunters. The Gold Hunters use blamite canons instead of Fuel Rods. Once Blue Team kills them a final portal shows up and a Squad of San Shyumm Prelates show up with the leader using some kind of Forerunner spear. “You demons cant just stop meddling in the ways of gods can you. You destroy all the faithful and continue to attempt to stop our progress to the gold path on the Great Journey.” He briefly looks to his companions and then back at Blue Team. “Your kind is responsible for the destruction of the Holy Hierarchs and helped destroy our holy city. We have almost nothing now because of your kind. Humanity continues to be a thorn in our side. I can forgive and forget. The Sangheili that joined Thel Vadam are the scum of their race. But not all Sangheili are like them. The Hierarchs were fools to kick out the Sangheili. With their help we could’ve saved the High Prophet of Regret, killed that demon you call Master Chief, and destroyed your species and went onto godhood. Now I can finally avenge all those that were slain by your kind. Your deaths will makeup those that may have missed the Great Journey. Your time ends here humans.” Then he and the other Prelates activate their energy shields and they pull out modified Covenant plasma weapons. And after the battle finishes Fred and Linda end up very injured. Luckily the Prowler is still stationed. Kelly moves Fred and Linda into a comfortable place into the ship. And the Forerunner artifact. And finally zooms off to meet ONI. Fred and Linda are moved to a medical bay. ONI immediately dispatches a team to go recover the bodies and prevent others from snooping around. Then the mission ends.

Eye color is caused by structure, not pigment BY SHERRY SEETHALER MAY 30, 2011 Q: When first learning about genetics, we’re taught that blue eyes are recessive and brown is dominant, but what about green eyes? Also, what are the squiggly lines in light-colored eyes? - Tim Patten A: Eye color is due to the pigmentation and the structure of the iris - the part of the eye that contracts and dilates the pupil to control the amount of light entering. The structure is named after Iris, the Greek goddess of the rainbow. The innermost layer of the iris consists of tightly fused, pigmented cells to block light from passing through to the retina. The amount and distribution of melanin pigment in this layer is similar regardless of eye color, except in albinos. Because they lack melanin, their eyes can appear pink when light reflects off blood vessels. The outermost layer of the iris is mainly composed of connective tissue that is loosely arranged and melanocytes - cells that produce melanin. Within each melanocyte, melanin is stored in compartments called melanosomes. The number of melanocytes is similar in blue, green and brown eyes, but the amount of melanin and number of melanosomes differs. Melanin is minimal in blue eyes, intermediate in green and highest in brown eyes. Melanin comes in two varieties, brown-black eumelanin and red-yellow pheomelanin. Blue eye color arises because tiny protein particles in the outer layer of the iris reflect blue light. In other words, the blue color results from structure rather than the presence of a blue pigment, and the shade of blue varies with the density and cellular composition of the outer layer of the iris. Blue scattering occurs in irises of all colors, but the greater the quantity of melanin around, the harder it is to see the blue www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sdut-eye-color-is-caused-by-structure-not-pigment-2011may30-story.html

The one thing I always question is: what would happen if you give Spartan 2 augments to Spartan 4s? It's said that Spartan 4s have significantly less augmentations than all other generations, and are only as effective as 2 with their armour. Take a Spartan 2s skills with the Spartan 3 augments and give them the gear of a Spartan 4, how effective would that monster be?
@nihilityjoey

@undeaddragon1158

Spartan-IVs can't have the same augmentations as the previous two generations because they are adults and those augmentations can only be administered during the onset of puberty.
@nihilityjoey
@nihilityjoey 5 лет назад
@@undeaddragon1158 They wont be the same, but they wouldn't need them to be. Just like the advances made from the II's too the III's, the procedures had less steps, stages needed, the augments the IV's would have undergone would have been advanced to the point where I would say a better outcome was had with again, less roadblocks and stages. Think about it, one of the main reasons children were chosen was not just because of their genetics being more open to change, but because of the ability to indoctrinate them. This crucial part became useless the moment chief went rogue, and was probably going to be scrapped anyway. In locke, buck and the others they had the advantages of haveing already trained and elite soldiers, that have done things in the war(s) close to what spartans did, or equaling them in peril. It was locke who drew up the plans to kill the arbiter, and bucks record speaks for itself. The other genetic and chemical augments would obviously be much more refined, maybe not needing a childs genetic dexterity and malleability to get equal or better results this time. Combine that with the vast combat knowledge they already posses and you have every bit the super soldier chief and the spartan II's are.
@narrowstone5363
@narrowstone5363 5 лет назад
@@nihilityjoey the thing is, chief going rogue was after the creation of Spartan 4s. I'm sure their augments are theoretically more effective than previous ones (as in, costs less, have less risk, and a decent pay out), however I find it hard to believe that a person who has trained and faught since the age of 6 has the same amount of skill as the combat veterans we see in the Spartan 4s. Sure they're battle hardened, but they don't have the same amount of experience. Aside from that, there's also the sheer amount of Spartan 4s. They're made quickier, for cheeper, with more numbers than any of the other Spartan groups. And as we saw with the Spartan 3s, quality seems to be lost when your focused on rapidly mass producing super soldiers (look at the casualties and how long each Spartan was active in the spartan 3s compared to Spartan 2s). Idk, I think I'd be interesting to see the new "extreme" augments matched with the training of 2s and the armour of 4s

Little late but a biologist and physical therapist here, flipping the order of the photoreceptors in the eye to the outer surface might improve vision for a couple days. To then be burned out and quite frankly destroyed via malignant cancers and blindness due to an over abundance of UV A and B exposure. The entire point of the photoreceptors being designed this way is because air does not like to block UVA and UVB. Water does and that is why say the octopus has the “augmented” order in layering 11:35. This could never work for humans unless they never took off their helmets when outside risking even an hour of actual starlight exposure would jeopardize their vision integrity immensely.
