This is the Hoplomachia match between my friends Pablo (Spartan) and Till (Theban) at the 2500th anniversary of the Battle of Plataea reenacted in 2022 Also please check out Till's website! - www.linothorax...
What an amazing fight between two of the nicest people I know! Till has his own website that we would really appreciate if you check out! www.linothorax.de/
As a US Civil War Reenactor and former medieval reenactor, you guys are AWESOME. Excellent work, literally on par with the trireme Olympias. You should be proud of yourselves. I would be.
@@carlhicksjr8401 it seems this event will be more common (the last one was Marathon 2015) but Plataea 2024 is now confirmed! Will be a different event but i am curious as to what it will be, as these events were anniversaries, sadly thermopylae was missed due to the pandemic.
It was such an honour, and at the same time, almost unbelievable that we were where they were 2500 years ago. We walked the same fields they did 2500 years ago, we fought each other the same place they did 2500 years ago.... it is surreal
Managed ti visit Leuctra whilst at Plataea, and my gosh, talk about an unchanged battlefield. The whole landscape is basically the same as when the ancients fought there. An amazing sight!
Yes, might be helpful! One of them didnt so there was a gentleman's agreement! Although, historically many hoplites wouldn't have been able to afford them
@@kongming66 it would depend on what the individual chose to purchase. Helmet and greaves do appear to be common first pieces, as the shield defends much of ths body, but there were no rules on what one had to buy in order. In this case, one of the fighters did not have greaves so in order to make it a fair fight the other decided not to wear his :)
from where do you get your armor and helmets cause i really want to get one but not for over 50 euros and also i want it to be a little bit good at least cause i am in medieval sports just starting
Many different places. Some is hand made. Sorry to say but a good reproduction cannot be found for under 50 euros. You can check out my hoplite reenactment guid series
in real life thebans ashamed the mighty spartans when sacred band a special theban hoplite unit out of homosekual partners DESTROEYD the spartans during battle....
The sarissae you are talking about didn't show up until more than 100 years later and especially pre Peloponnesian War Hoplite kits were anything but uniform. Since one opponent did not have greaves at hand, the other went greaveless too for fair game. I think the deep love and respect between the contestants is visible:)
@@dogeguy7646 the Athens vs Thebes video is a reenactment of one of the conflicts in the battle of plataea, and the final spartan position is the other. As our Persian group couldn't attend, we could only really re-create the athenians vs thebans clash. For the Spartans clash against the immortals we used our audience
