They built a very good Oregon State offensive line, but it took a few years. If the current coaches feel the Oregon State talent was better on the o-line, they would never say it publicly. Know what I mean? They wouldn't want their current players to feel marginalized. Oregon State's offensive line was up for the Joe Moore in 2002 as the best o-line in the country and was on the Joe Moore Watch List last year. They were among the best. Michigan State won't be among the best this year, but they will take steps toward excellence.
I've always kinda questioned why a slot receiver has to be a smaller guy when TEs do just fine in the middle of the field. I'd be interested in seeing how a big guy like Marsh does there.
It’s a speed/quickness thing. Fast guys in the slot are extremely difficult for safeties and nickel backs to cover, in obvious passing situations. TE’s are better for mismatches with normally shorter linebackers and safeties. Better used for non-obvious passing situations or redzone. You’re right though, Marsh could be dangerous in the slot because of his speed and size.
I think it’s made out to be a much bigger deal than it really is. It’s much more likely that sign stealing is a common-“ish” practice than UM being the only team that does this, let alone that it really helped them at all
