I remember this scene actually scared me when I first saw it, and that was only a few years ago after being a lifelong fan of Spawn. I mean, the sheer rage in Keith David's voice can be downright terrifying sometimes, and to hear his performance in this scene was shocking. That's what I love about how he voiced Spawn, he could be calm at one moment and raging another, but always with the right amount of menace when he needed to project it. Keith David IS Spawn, no doubt about it.
Keith David is the only man who could have gave Simmons the swagger he needed for the Spawn animated series. Ith that said, yes.. This scene is extremely moving.
Geez what's his deal. He's acting like as if he died, sent to hell, made a deal with a demon to see his wife once again, comes back five years later, sees said wife married to his best friend, had a kid together, leaving him a sad dark angel of hell rage......kind a weirrrd
@@419chris419 It's a compliment not to talk down about janitors; but just to point out that he went from cleaning up schools to influencing and inspiring not only one generation but several as well as becoming rich and successful thus eat your heart out!
@@kavijackson868 I worked as a janitor for awhile, well more like 'assistant janitor' (I was in my teens and only there for half a year). The work was fine but I never realized how horribly people treat janitors until I was one myself. Yeah, people are more trash than the trash and I hope his old co-workers became green with envy at Todd McFarlane success.
This scene is masterpiece. The voice actor truly embodied the character. A performance like no other, the passion, the raspiness of his voice, the pain he demonstrates. The devil is laughing at spawn as he climbs the church walls as if to reach out to god. However god rejects him by striking him down. Spawn is rejected by god and used by the devil against his own will. His is Spawns hells. Right here, right now, like this.
All my life. I have lived next to a church. Every morning, evening and night. The bells would never cease to stop. It was worse when there was a wedding, funeral or baptism. So yeah Spawn. I feel your pain.
Keith David’s performance in this scene is one of his best in the whole show, I was seriously worried he was going to kill Garab out of blind rage when he yelled “He’s laughing at me!”
*He’s laughing at me!!* It’s just the church bells man come on it’s Sunday morning. Im died when I heard that 🤣🤣. I just watched the whole series in two days since the first episode got me hooked. This is the best show I’ve seen in a while. Too bad they didn’t get to end it properly and too bad I’m just recently finding out about it.
The irony of Spawn climbing that wall by punching holes in it... Reminds me of someone ELSE who climbed walls like that. Funny thing! HE sounded like Keith David too! HMMMMM!!!!
The animation, the voice actor, the atmosphere. It's all there. Why can't they create stuff like that anymore? I bet a show in this style with passion behind it would boom on streaming platforms. Even if they go for live action to step it up for a wider audience.
The symbolism is the cross stabbing Spawn, it represents that not even God can help him, he's condemned. It's not even subtle. Considering this series has a lot of messages of Heaven and Hell. It's quite easy to spot even upon first viewing.
Not exactly, the upside-down cross "originated" from the apostle Peter's death. When captured, he was sentenced to crucifixion, but he claimed that he was not worthy to die like Jesus, so the clever bastards just crucified him upside-down. However, recent culture (I don't know where it started or how long ago) has associated the upside-down cross thing as "opposed to Jesus", hence, blasphemous or diabolic. The Satanic cross is sort of a combination of a cross and the alchemic symbol for sulfur.
@16bit Classics why would his mentor pull him down.and how could he rid himself of the shroud I don't understand how he could still have chains he rid himself of the shroud or its spawns chains like hanging down and he can't control the.idk why the old man would pull him down all while be taunted by violator.to bad we only got to see a rookie spawn barly knew how to use his powers.if this show lasted we would've seen spawns real powers.i waso mad finding out we will now never see spawn kill molbegea mammon violator his brothers also God and Satan.it just started getting over that hump when he starts actually using his powers.then no more if they brought this back now same show same style.ratings would go through the roof.specially now that comics have replaced most fantasy films and vampires and werewolf movies.every comic fan in the world most like would watch it.people still watch it
This is around the time he was still coping with everything. He hadn't been taught the full extent of his powers or even fought most of Hell or Heavens worst yet. Here he only had to worry about Tony and his gang or The Violators mental torture. The Show never got to him being king or even facing Malbolgia and it was around the time they even still had the rights to Angela(Before she was taken over to marvel). Plus I guess he wanted Spawn to be more sympathetic and build on his tragedy and growing rage before he went full blown I can kill the universe.
Nah so actually what happened was in the 3rd season they had to compleatly re write the script because it was in approved by HBO so they covered a lot of the animation with too many shadows,
