The reality there has been a bill on Schumer’s desk for border security HR2 and he is not signing it. The reality is Democrats in the Senate and the White House have to agree and sign bills. When Schumer would not agree on a spending bill to keep the government open then the only negotiating option is a shut down. A shut down would benefit the Democrats though. Shut downs are always blamed on Republicans. Biden would have made it as painful as possible. Remember when Obama installed fencing around an open air WWII memorial and prevented WWII veterans that flew in on Hero flights to see it before they passed away? The troops, border patrol and TSA would not have been paid at this critical time. Democrats would have run on all the sad stories and chaos. Republicans would have lost votes in the swing states. It is PRIORITY number ONE to win the election in November! Also, a shut down still would not get the results one hopes for bc Democrats would be in an even stronger position. Biden would be in control of everything. It would take a 2/3rds vote to open back up which may not have happened with the divided house. This is not a strategy during an election year. Winning the majority in the Senate, a bigger majority in the House and the White House in November is the best strategy right now. Republicans need to unite and focus on winning in November. There are already border security laws and they are not being enforced - so does it even matter. Biden could close the border right now but refuses. Republicans must win in November.
