I would like to share my story for people who may wonder if speaking in tongues is real. I was raised in the Catholic tradition. I heard different things about speaking in tongues but had no real opinion of it. I started studying the Bible and praying while living on campus as an undergrad and attended several campus ministries. I had an understanding of my need of God and repented, but I was confused about biblical concepts and the conflicting beliefs people of all different faiths held. At age 23, I started attending a Pentecostal church and was baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ. Well, I was down on my knees one night praying earnestly in intercession for someone else and all of a sudden, a loud unintelligible sound came from my mouth and I took both hands and covered my mouth in an effort to stop it. I then stood up and calmly continued praying (by myself) and as I began to lift my hands a bit, the feeling returned and it was the most wonderful feeling of expectancy that started in my belly and flowed up. My lips were moving of their own accord and it was the most glorious, amazing human experience I had ever had. Out of my mouth flowed the most fluent language. As I yielded myself to it, I felt the languages change and it was as though “rivers of living water” were flowing from my belly as the scripture says. I spoke in tongues for a long time, crying and praying. Furthermore, in the days and weeks going forward as I would pray in the spirit each day (I couldn’t get enough of it - the presence of God was so wonderful), the Bible became illuminated and the parts that were confusing were crystal clear and my knowledge and understanding grew at a rapid rate. The sins or temptations that I had struggled with were instantly no longer a struggle. I wanted to pray. I loved everyone. I was a “new creature” in Christ Jesus. My thoughts were transformed. Words really cannot describe what an amazing experience it is. It is like a brand new love relationship - all I wanted to do was read the Bible, pray, go to church and tell everyone about it. Everything else faded away. I am so grateful that I received it before any skeptic tried to talk me out of it! I have been Spirit-filled now for decades and it gets sweeter and sweeter! I have seen hundreds of people transformed. His presence daily molds me and makes me. If you are on the fence, I encourage you to cast aside doubt and believe God. It is not just a good feeling, it is not just a prayer language, it is the birth of the spirit (John 3:3-5). The spirit of truth is a teacher. If you want to get closer to God and gain wisdom and understanding, be filled with His Spirit! Jesus told His followers, I am WITH you but I shall be IN you. It is compared to wind, rain, fire, oil, light, living water, earnest of our inheritance and it is God’s design for us. It is His rest and it is the refreshing, and it is the power that lifts us out of this world! Don’t live under your privilege! “…Jesus stood and CRIED, saying, If ANY man thirst, let him come unto me, and DRINK. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow RIVERS of living water.” (John 7:37-38 - emphasis added)

Amen. I received the water baptism in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost in 2018. I was a baptist for a long time. In 2009 I was baptized in titles Father, Son and Holy Ghost. In 2018, God revealed to me through a friend that I wasn't saved in 2009 because I wasn't baptized in Jesus name and I didn't have the Holy Ghost. I've blessed God opened up my eyes to the truth.🙌💕😊

Yes, it happened to me in 1997. I went to my brother's home when I returned from overseas (10 continuous years) to save him from the cult that they joined. They took me to a prayer meeting at David Alvarez's church in Fairfield, CA. I got up and ran out of it. They kept getting me to come back. Every time I went there (looking back at it) God was breaking me a little each time. One Sunday night it happened, God broke me completely. I was aware I was on my knees crying, sobbing, shaking. Pastor Alvarez came off the platform and laid hands on me. In faith, my brother and his wife brought baptism clothes to every service so I guess that's why I asked to be baptized. I literally couldn't stop shaking though I did stop sobbing. I shook walking to the changing room, while I was changing and until my foot touched the water, then the shaking just stopped. And something not of this world happened in the water at the bottom before he brought me up. It seemed like I went down in the water for a long ways and time, then a white light hit me in the forehead and I remember jerking (Pastor Alvarez felt me jerk) and then red haze seemed to cover me. When he started lifting me up I actually felt something come off me and stay below me in the water. I was so stunned I didn't really react. I even asked if someone took a vintage photograph of me where the light exploded and then you see red. Of course no one did. It was the Lord cleansing me and applying his blood to pay the debt I couldn't pay. That's why we are commanded to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for his blood to pay out debt - for remission of sin. If you haven't, please repent and find a true Apostolic Pentecostal preacher to do the honor of baptizing you into God's kingdom. After that, I was compelled by something to just keep praying and seeking God. Three days later I woke up, got up and started to dress and when I bent over to put on my pants, in a split second I felt something start deep in my belly and come rushing up and gushed out of me. I spoke in some language I did not know. I told them "all I know is, it wasn't me!" I was baptized August 10th in the year of our Lord 1997. I was 40 years old at the time.

I had a very wise man of God tell me one time that someone asked him, "Do you mean that I HAVE to speak in tongues to receive the Holy Ghost?" His answer was "It's not that you HAVE TO, it's that you GET TO!" I'll never forget him saying that for as long as I live, and it's had a resounding effect on my life! GREAT message here, @Nataniel Urshan!

@@mikeeagan1307 Malachi 3:10 KJVS Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Tithe was before the law. And this verse is God speaking. Sorry but arguments against tithing is trying to excuse greed. God is a giver we are supposed to be made in His image. When we put on Christ we are supposed to be as Christ.

@hargisP2 You are quoting texts that were specifically written to the Children of Israel and Priesthood that were not adhering to God's Law that was only for them. Why do you insist on making the Church abide by Laws not written to the Church? After the Cross we are led by the Spirit to Give of our Surplus or our personal sacrifice, according to Paul in 2 Cor 9.
@mikeeagan1307
@mikeeagan1307 8 месяцев назад
@hargisP2 Tithe before the Law you say? Paying a Tenth was customary in many nations then. Abraham Gave, not Pay, a Tithe of the Spoil of the war and not of his possessions. You going to try to Spiriualize that now to mean we therefore have to Pay Tithe of our Income? Before the Law you say? Is that supposed to mean something? Are you forgetting so was Circumcision, and that was done away with all the Old Covenants as the Book of Galatians brings out pretty clearly.
@mikeeagan1307

@hargisP2 Another point you bring out, that God was speaking .God was speaking all 4 chapters so don't just stop at chapter 3:11. Keep reading because God is still speaking in chapter 4 and He reminds them in vs.4 Remember ye the Law of Moses...which I commanded...for all ISREAL the statutes and judgements. This only applies to ISREAL and only to those that live in ISREAL that own property to raise a crop or livestock. And if God changes not as 3:6 says then why is everyone expected to pay Money? Where did this transition appear in Scripture?

Unspeakable means overjoyed, something you can’t express in words, something extraordinary that you can’t say… But, the “now” tongues is something totally different, where a person uses the pulpit and just “says” (speaks in tongues) something and then continues with English, Spanish, or whatever language they’re preaching at that moment. Example: “… yeah, let’s praise Him sholobataca achula matarraca shuttata yeah, there you go, c’mon brother, let it flow, you’re almost there achurra sholotata mazzutta archolingora notatta…. Yeaaah!!!!”

It’s difficult to explain to someone Scripturely what they need to do to receive the Holy Ghost but I found one example that works every time and I’ll explain it in a situation that happened with me. I was 27 years old just received a HolyGohst a week before and came to a another church member and told them I haven’t been able to speak in tongues since I received the Holy Ghost. His response immediately was oh really. Then he said OK pray with me and we started praying together thanking God giving him praise and as soon as I heard my friend start speaking in tongues I instantly started speaking in tongues and I knew it was real.

It's significant to note that all of Pauls' letters begin with the greeting," ..to the saints of..". So all of Pauls' letters are written to already saved believers. How else could they be already saved without following Acts 2:38 ?

Great teaching ! Many are confused by the fact that the word " tongues" in the English translation means languages. What they don't understand that every time the word " tongue" is pluralized isn't because multiple nelievers are speaking in multiple languages , but that more than one believer is speaking one and the same language. Paul clarifies this descepancy by calling it the " unknown tongue". The word " unknown" being added because the translators were not sure how to express it any other way.. Paul says that this language " no man knoweth. So if no man knows it then its a language not native to this word whose source is our spirit not our mind.

According to the biblical Law of Repetition the Word will repeat something three times in order to set a precedent and so that it need not be repeated the same way in every occurence. Three times in the book of Acts it is recorded that believers recieved the Holy Spirit and what happened the moment that they recieved. It each instance the first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues.

John 3.8 being consistent with Greek word in context must be translated "The Spirit breaths where He wants, and you hear His voice, but you do not know from where He comes or where He goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit." The difference centers on how one interprets (wind/spirit) (blows/breathes) (it wants/He wants) (it's sound/His voice) (it comes/He comes) (it goes/He goes). Pneuma appears 24times in Jn 17times "spirit" and never wind. 379 times in the New Testament over 250times "spirit." In Jn ch 3 the context dictates "Spirit" is the more appropriate translation. The early church literature presents the overwhelming reference to the Spirit. Wind does not express want or willing anything. The Spirit is portrayed in Jn as speaking, 14.26; 15.26; 16.13. Jn 3.8 is a description of those born of the Spirit. Are they better described as speaking (as the Spirit does) or making a sound (as wind does)? To translate pneuma as "wind" shows translator bias.

I don’t have a problem with whatever people think unknown tongues are! But I think Paul is putting order in the church.Why is there competition between tongues & prophecy? And prophecy being greater than tongues unless intrepid? And why does Paul prefer to speak in church 5 intelligent words than 10000 no one understands? And when & where does Paul speaks in tongues more than anyone else? If not in church? If all examples given where in public? Was he keeping score? When tongues where spoken in Acts there was convection of some one! No acts are valid so no one will boast I’ve never heard of a testament of somebody walking in a public place speaking an unknown tongue and some one being saved! Last question is evidence for oneself or for other! 1Cor 14:22 ,,,says for unbelievers! And if someone answers it’s a private prayer language! I’ve been looking for that verse for a long time !!I’ve found … and when u pray don’t repeat like pagans!!! Mat6:7 When Paul says if you speak utterances no one understands uer speaking to the air! 1Cor 14:9 We all search for TRUTH!!!

Acts 2 King James Version 2 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 5 And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. 6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. 7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? 8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? 9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

Bro Urshan, Acts 2:1-4 is the infilling if the Holy Ghost; verses 5-12 is all about the Jews, devout men out of every nation under heaven and they heard the Galileans speak in their tongues the wonderful works of God. They were amazed and were in doubt wondering what it meant; verse 13 is about the mockers, the others who said they were full of new wine. The Bible reveals at least two groups of people that day - the ones who heard the Galileans speak in their tongue when they knew the Galileans did not know their language. Theses devout men were amazed and in doubt because they didn't know what was meant by this event. They were not mockers, they didn't deny the Galileans spoke in their tongues glorifying God they just didn't understand what it meant. Wondering what some event happening in our lives means is a natural reaction to something we don't understand. Does this not occur with all of us on a regular basis? We humans are constantly looking for meaning, it's natural. The devout Jews did not deny they just wanted to know what it meant. Therefore, many of them were able to receive what Peter and the rest of the apostles (including Matthew) preached. Now the second group there that day were the mockers and some were ones who heard them speak in their language but they reject it outright, mocking and saying they were full of new wine. Just reminding everyone listening and commenting - people there that day fell into 2 different groups. Also I purposely tried to write this in present tense because there are groups right here, the believers who have experienced the real new birth Jesus preached and ordained the apostles to preach; those who are wondering if it still happens today and the third group - the mockers. So to these groups I write to the believer: Jude 1:20 build up yourself on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost. To those who honestly wonder if you can have it today - you can, you can have it today even now. All it takes is real true repentance. To the mocker, why do you mock? Is it because you don't want a closer walk with, scared of what he might ask of you? Or, is it you once had the Holy Ghost and your flesh overcame you so you walked away so now you mock to justify yourself. To the mocker, put God to the test and he will help you past your fear like he did me. And to those who walked away, God is still here for you. It's time to come home prodigal.

At Pentecost, the Holy Spirit gave the 12 apostles (yes, 12, not 120, but that’s a story for another day) what in the Greek text is “apophtheggesthai” - usually translated as “to give utterance”. This is not, however, the most accurate translation of this Greek word, but it’s the one that has come to be the more or less ‘de facto’ rendering. This word is from “apophtheggomai” which is best translated as “to give bold, authoritative, inspired speech to” (don’t go to Strong’s and look it up - “Strong’s” is a _concordance_ , not a lexicon; there’s a _huge_ difference). It refers *not* to the content of the speech (i.e., the language), but rather to the *manner* of speaking. In each instance where this word occurs in scripture, the person's speech is bold, authoritative, and inspired and it is always, by the way, in the speaker’s native language. In short, the Holy Spirit did not give the _language_ of the utterance (i.e. the content), it gave the _manner_ in which it was uttered. The Jews present at Pentecost, as we are told, came from three areas: Judea, the Western Diaspora and the Eastern Diaspora. “All nations under heaven” is an idiomatic expression - Acts II: 9-11 tells us where those visiting were from. Jews from Judea spoke Aramaic as their mother tongue. I don’t think there’s any argument there. Jews from the Western Diaspora spoke Greek - all those lands had been Hellenized for centuries and Greek had long displaced indigenous languages. Eastern Diaspora was different - no Hellenization and countries had their own languages. Though people in Jewish communities in these lands spoke the local languages in varying degrees of fluency, it was never their ‘mother tongue’. For Jews in the Eastern Diaspora, the language of ‘hearth and home’, the language they were “born into” was Aramaic. This language was one of the things that set them apart as being Jewish. Many lands, many places and people, but only two languages; Aramaic and Greek; and of course, the apostles spoke both. Something to think about - In the entire Pentecost narrative, not one language is ever referenced by name. Why do you suppose that is? When Peter stood up and addressed the crowd, what language do you suppose he addressed them in?? I would argue Aramaic since it was the mother tongue (sic!) of by far the majority of attendees. The “list of nations”, as it’s called, of Acts 2: 9-11 is simply that - a list of countries, lands and nations that tell us where these people were from; *not* what language(s) they spoke, as most people assume. The miracle of language at Pentecost was making the God of the Jews accessible to all people and moreover, not having to do so in one prescribed language; namely, Hebrew, the sacerdotal language of Judaism. Jewish religious custom and tradition demanded that any teaching, praying, reading, prophesying, etc. dome from the temple (where the apostles were) be rendered _first_ in Hebrew, then followed by a translation into the vernacular. There even existed an ecclesiastical office for the individuals who did these translations (called the ‘mertugem’). On Pentecost, the apostles broke this tradition and “began to speak in ‘other’ (i.e. _other_ than Hebrew) languages (Aramaic and Greek), as the Holy Spirit kept giving a bold, authoritative, inspired manner of speaking to them. The apostles, by help and inspiration of the Holy Spirit, did away with this cultural and religious tradition, and addressed the crowd in Greek and Aramaic; the mother tongue of the attendees, instead of the culturally and religiously correct, and expected, tradition of Hebrew first, then translations into the vernaculars. Doing this from the Temple where they were, broke a slew of cultural and religious taboos. The shock to the crowd was that they did not first hear the expected and culturally correct Hebrew first, then vernaculars. Further added to the crowd’s reaction was to hear Galileans (the “country bumkins” of their day) speak so boldly, completely inspired, and with such authority. To suggest, as the apostles did that the God of the Jews was now available to non-Jews and in any language, completely dispensing with Hebrew altogether was tantamount to heresy; hence also part of the crowd's reaction. In addition to the above, according to the Pentecost narrative, there were around 3,000 people who were baptized on Pentecost. If these 3,000 were 'baptized in the Spirit', I would think that at the very least, according to some Pentecostal/Charismatic beliefs, they should have starting “speaking in tongues”. Yet *nothing* of the sort is recorded. Certainly 3,000+ people “speaking in tongues" would at least merit a sentence or two in the narrative, wouldn’t it? If one argues they were not baptized in the spirit, but only in water, not only would the apostles have been violating a slew of work prohibitions on a high holy day (and would not likely have been allowed to do such a thing), considering one of the main focuses of the day was about being baptized in the Holy Spirit, that would be a rather anti-climactic ending to the narrative, wouldn’t it? No xenoglossy, no modern tongues-speech, just real, rational language(s). There was a language miracle at Pentecost provided by the Holy Spirit; just not the one most people assume. And of course, again, when the apostles received the Holy Spirit, the only tongues (read ‘languages’) spoken were their own.

Mark 13:11 when they come to arrest you don’t worry what to say ,,, say what’s in your heart the Holy Spirit will make witness in and through you! So does that mean you’ll speak glossolalia? Just like the Spirit lead Jesus in the wilderness Jesus wasn’t uttering some gibberish as he went along and born of the water and born of the Spirit It’s like saying something twice Jesus told the woman at the water well, I will give you water, and you will never thirst again, and that’s what Jesus was telling Nicodemus when your born of the into the Word and have the Word & you will also have the Spirt. The Spirit of Truth! And you also said that when the Holy Spirit comes it testifies with our spirit just like it did in Acts but Acts everything was understood even the mockers that didn’t wanna except the Word As far as I can, tell modern Penecostal’s modern tongue speakers want to keep re-creating Acts even yourself said let’s stay as close as we can to that chapter so isn’t that like a ritual? There is absolutely nothing mysterious about Biblical "tongues" - and there is only one type - when referring to something spoken, they are nothing more than real, rational language(s); usually unknown to those listening to them, but always known by the speaker(s) - it’s their native language (in some cases, it is a language the speaker has learned). In contrast, the “tongues” Pentecostal and Charismatic Christians are producing today is an entirely self-created phenomenon. It is non-cognitive non-language utterance; random free vocalization based upon a subset of the existing underlying sounds (called phonemes) of the speaker’s native language, and any other language(s) the speaker may be familiar with or have had contact with. It is, in part, typically characterized by repetitive syllables, plays on sound patterns, alliteration, assonance, and over-simplification of syllable structure. It is also interesting to note that any disallowed sound combinations, i.e. consonant clusters, in the speaker’s native language are also disallowed in his/her tongues-speech. Further, this subset of phonemes typically contains only those sounds which are easiest to produce physiologically. Occasionally some speakers will use two or more subsets of phonemes to generate glossolalia, producing what, to them, sounds like two (or more) distinct “tongues languages”, thus claiming to be able to speak in “divers tongues”. There is absolutely _nothing_ that “tongues-speakers” are producing that cannot be explained in relatively simple linguistic terms. Conversely, when it comes to something spoken, there are absolutely _no_ Biblical references to “tongues” that do not refer to, and cannot be explained in light of, real rational language(s), though it may not be the explanation you want to hear, and it may be one which is radically different from what you believe, or were taught. _Nowhere in the Bible is modern tongues-speech advocated or evidenced._ “Praying in the Spirit” does _not_ refer to the words one is saying. Rather, it refers to how one is praying. In the three places it is used (Corinthians, Ephesians, and Jude), there is absolutely zero reference to 'languages' in connection with this phrase. “Praying in the Spirit” should be understood as praying in the power of the Spirit, by the leading of the Spirit, and according to His will. I'm not doubting or questioning the 'tongues experience'; glossolalia as the spiritual tool that it is, can be very powerful and, for many people, the experience is profound. As one commenter put it, “Speaking in tongues distracts the ego/analytical/conscious mind while leaving the subconscious (the heart) wide open to import the divine." Both the spiritual and physical benefits of using this tool are also well documented. Again though, it is important to note that this same statement can be made for virtually _any_ other culture that practices glossolalia. Religious and cultural differences aside, the glossolalia an Evenki Shaman in Siberia, a vodoun priestess in Togo and a Christian tongues-speaker in Alabama are producing are in no way different from each other. They’re all producing their glossolalia in the exact same way; they just have different explanations and beliefs as to why they’re doing it, and where it comes from. ‘Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) - the divine gift, is the God given ability effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers.

@@Joseph_Gibson The "copy and paste" is from my own notes as a linguist who has studied the modern phenomenon. Modern tongues speech is what it is; non-cognitive non-language utterance. Again, I am not questioning the "tongues experience" - but the glossolalia itself is completely self -created.

@@JivTurky1986 1Cor. 14:2 is perhaps *the* quintessential verse used by many to “evidence” modern tongues-speech in the Bible. Let’s paraphrase this verse into a more modern English. To do this, you need to get rid of the added “unknown”, use a more accurate translation from the Greek, and a more modern rendering of the archaic “tongue” - Once done, we have something more like this - “He that speaks in a language isn’t speaking to others, but only to God; no one hears [him] with understanding; nevertheless, though he’s praying in the Spirit, he’s speaking mysteries.” The whole passage is talking about real, rational language. Let me use an analogy - If I attend a worship service in “East Haystack”, some remote town in the US out in the middle of nowhere, two things are going to be evident: one; there’s only going to be so many people at that service (i.e. there will be a finite given amount of people there) and two; the chances that anyone speaks anything *but* English is pretty slim to nil. If I start praying aloud in say Lithuanian, there’s no one at that service that’s going to understand a single word I’m saying. Even though I’m speaking a real language, no one _there_ will understand my “tongue”. That does not mean or imply that no one else understands Lithuanian; just no one at _that particular service._ In this sense, therefore, I am speaking _only to God,_ since he understands all languages. To everyone at the service, even though I’m praying in the Spirit (as defined in my original post), to the people listening to me, I’m still speaking “mysteries” - i.e. even though I’m praying as I ought, no one understands me; no one has a clue what I’m saying as no one speaks my language. When one looks at the original Greek, the verb which is usually translated as “understandeth/understands” is actually the verb “to hear” in the sense of understanding what you’re hearing someone say. The verb is *not* “to understand”. That part of the verse is more properly “no one hears [him] with understanding”, i.e. no one listening to him understands what he’s saying. There is _nothing_ in this passage that suggests modern tongues-speech nor is there anything that even _remotely_ suggests that the speaker does not understand what he himself is saying. The Greek bears this out; it is the _listeners_ who do not understand, *not* the speaker - no matter how hard modern tongues-speakers want the speaker to also not understand…….it just isn’t there. “Tongues of angels” is frequently used as a vehicle to posit ‘angelic speech’. That entire phrase, as well as a few others in that particular part of Paul’s letter, is 100% pure textbook hyperbole no matter how one wishes to slice and dice it. There’s just no getting around that. In all instances of angels speaking, it has always been in a real, rational language. In fact, in traditional Jewish belief, angels can only speak and understand one language; specifically, the sacred/sacerdotal language of Judaism, Hebrew. Paul, being a Jew, would have known this, which lends further support for his intentional use of hyperbole.

@kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 2 года назад
@Zachary Theriault Almost, but not quite - yes, there will be some “overlap” of sounds from speaker to speaker, but that’s where the similarity ends. Tongues-speakers use the phonemes (sounds) found in their native language; and typically, the ones that are the easiest to produce physiologically. Speakers who have had some contact with another language may also use some of the sounds from that language in their tongues-speech. What this means is that the tongues-speech of a speaker of American English who has never had any contact or exposure to any other language (pretty rare, but for the sake of this exercise), will _only_ contain those sounds found in English, and typically only those that are easiest to produce. Their tongues-speech will _never_ contain a sound not found in English. Further, any combinations if sounds that are disallowed in that speaker’s native language (in this example, English), will also be disallowed in their tongues-speech. An American English speaker's tongues-speech will never contain , for example the German "ü," or the Welsh "ll" , nor will any 'word' in their tongues-speech ever begin with something like gb- or kp-, or zbr-. In other words, the construction of the glossic string (the “sentence” in tongues) is based solely on sounds of the speaker’s native language. In addition, a person’s tongues-speech must also adhere to all the phonological rules (rules controlling the sounds of a given language ) that govern the speaker’s native language. Because of how it is produced, no two people will ever have the same “tongue”…..ever. There are as many “tongues” as there are tongues-speakers. If, for a moment, we say that “tongues” is heavenly language spoken on the spiritual realm, why would there ever be a need for more than just one, instead of countless thousands.

@kavikv.d.hexenholtz3474 2 года назад
@Zachary Theriault Yes, the plural would be correct here - you have a plural subject; men and angles. The language of men and the language of angels. Again though, it's pure hyperbole. The thing is, tongues-speech is not language - it fails the basic universal test that defines 'language'.
