Loved the motor in the trunk. The NOVA luckily has a short tail pan unlike it's Chevelle counterpart

I'm 100% with you Dan. All the hot rods I've built as drivers are built with easily obtained parts. If I have a brake caliper lock up on a Sunday, it's nice to be able to walk into a Canadian Tire and get a new one. Regardless you are still going to get the usual Canadian Tire fantastic service. I just like to be able to hop in a car and drive it without worrying about what happens if something dies. I've built cars with exotic bits and pieces and you get terrified when you drive them out of town. I just keep those cars close to home. So if you're building something you want to drive, make sure you can easily get parts for it. Any day of the week. And any place you are at.

That gasser sounds SICK!!!!

You should run two fillers for the shocks, tied together it causes dramatically exaggerated roll as the loaded side pressurizes the high side. Makes a big difference.

I'd go with a set 300hp ram horns , 2 1/2 exhaust pipes , but no worries about exhaust leaks or starter heating problems, 350 trans with gear vendor , 411 gears , old school hot rod

I would keep it a 3 on the tree. If you are sold on an automatic, call Art Carr's shop at California Performance Transmission in Huntington Beach, Ca., order a 2004R and have them ship it. You could even pick it up during Power Tour West or a Route 66 Event. It is the same length as a turbo 350 and has great gear splits. We had one in my wife's '57 Chevy Wagon and it worked amazing. You won't regret it!

Go with the ram horn manifolds so much easier to deal with imo. If you don’t like em then go with a set of headers.

I agree with you, throw your 4.10 posi in it, 700r4or 4L60e, 327 with some aluminum heads and maybe a efi setup, just make it a decent cruiser

My first car was a 76 impala, I fit an engine hoist, my tool box, hydraulic jack and jack stands, and a small block in the trunk so I could swap the small block 400 from the Impala to my 78 Firebird formula

Like your idea of a 327 with a solid cam. I ran 327 with 461 heads and a solid cam with 225/225 deg @ .050" on a 108 deg LSA in my 56. Sounded great and ran great on the street

those 283 are great little cruising motors. Millar Racing built one for me a few years ago for my 59 GMC 9320 Wideside. 9,5 to 1 comp mid to high rev cam. pulls good after 2 grand and easily revs to 6 grand without floating valves. t5 overdrive behind the 283. your engine looks good in the trunk of the Nova.

You should put an FE motor, maybe a 390, a nice set of headers, flexi hoses top and bottom, in it just to troll Mortske

Try wood blocks under front wheels and a couple of tea trolleys to put parts on to save your knees and back

Man the Nova is sounding sweet. Maybe a slightly milder cam in the Nomad I think? I'll bet it's the first time someone delivered a motor in the trunk of a gasser Nova to the engine shop?

My 2 cents It’s an ORIGINAL nomad Keep all the parts Have 1 chassis with drums original # matching block (can be made) original manual tranny and original rear end with a time correct radiator Get a new chassis tube arms a high compression 400 aluminum block and heads painted Tri power injected, 700r tranny auto, gear vender, and 9inch qa1 coilovers

With all the engine/trans swaps you do, I can't believe you don't have a driveshaft end to put in the trans to stop oil leaks.

put in a 700r4 just don't use the early ones as they were weak and tended to break. A nicely rebuilt 700r4 cheaper than going with a gear vendors setup.

I must admit I once hauled a 350 in the back of a VW Rabbit! Hillbillies get it done just a different approach! 😀😀😀

200R4 overdrive automatic would be the hot ticket for that car. Look into it, I know I've mentioned them to you in the past.

700r4 is plenty even if your towing, You can still jack the rear up with front on stands

Gee whiz, Dan! - Put a rebuilt 250 HP hydraulic lifter 327 in it with a 700R4 and a stock exhaust and rear end - Take the money you saved by not building the motor and buying another Gear Vendor and put a quality paint job on it - Make it something you'd be proud to be seen driving. Not every DD Speed Shop project has to be a noisy, ratty looking hot rod!!

Dan, how about a 350 with camel hump heads and a hydraulic street/strip bump stick connected to a 400 turbo tranny? She’d make a great cruiser and tow if needed.

I put a hydraulic roller cam in my 55, more streetable and draws 16 inches of vacuum . More lift than my flat tappet cam.

as nice as that wagon is , you could take the hood to a body shop and they could color match that thing and fix it up for you if you plan on keeping do it while you have the motor out

I will love the car no matter what but I'd keep the stock trans, do a stockish rebuild on that engine with a mild cam, maybe xe268h or something similar etc. Ramhorns and leave it alone and keep it simple.

Solid lift cam requires maintenance all the time and if you don't run the valves. You could have issues

Install a Hydraulic roller cam and lifters and you won't have to mess with them again.
