My Dad did 22 years in the Army ( signals ) so needless to say a large part of my youth was spent in that environment, these shows are amazing it’s like opening up a toy chest , paras , sas , intelligence etc etc , really look forward to listening to this one :)

What an absolute legend! My first visit to your channel, and I'd only seen one or two episodes of the show here and there, but whenever this guy was on screen there's just something about him. Incredible at intimidating the trainees but could tell there's a microscopic twinkle in his eye - here's the proof. Under all the banter though, those tours he's describing are proper heavy. Mad respect to these guys, so humble too. Great interview

I'm ex Green Slime (Int corps) for 6 years and after that TAVR Artists (1980s). I was a RTI instructor at JSIW Ashford and Brecon in 1983 to 1985. Interesting guy who tells great stories..... loved this film. I always enjoy your work here. Thank you. 😊

This was brilliant. I did the course with Dilksy and was on the Unit with him. Great in the rooms, but used to make me corpse all the time, the only person I know who can be hilarious and terrifying at the same time. good times.

I genuinely thought he was a medical-grade sociopath / extreme sadist before this interview. Just goes to show the professionalism of the British army - switch on, switch off, switch on…. One of the best episodes yet. A great story teller and clearly a top personality! Dilksy comes across as a very decent guy 👌🏼 (Admittedly, I reckon you have to have a steak of sadism to do that job!😜) I could take a wild guess but I still want confirmation what his forearm tattoo is about 👀

What a fantastic interview. Dilksey realty opened up & told Phil about his military life. Chepstow had all trades there, it has RCT (Boat Troop) I think & also survey apprentices. Mad to think what the army does, not just fighting…

Got a taste of the army as a civie kid back in 81/82 with operation Drake, in Wales & Germany with the royal tank regiment, loved the life and the experience. Still remember a PTI called Urcon, great memories. Interesting podcast, I’ll check out others. 👍

Went through SERE in 15. Was in a group of 4 with 2 pilots and a 23 bloke. We knew the cover story. We knew the routine. I remember the second exposure with “conventional” forces, we all got pulled in by an umpire as the other 3 signed a piece a paper and accepted photos. We then got raided by “non-conventional” forces and separated. The next time I saw them was in class the next morning and all 3 got a stand up fail. Turns out between them, they gave away the story, they failed in mock executions and more. It’s definitely not something you will know how and what to do unless you do it. Annnnnd, 3 weeks prior to the course, I took down all my social media 😂

It's one of those things you think you could pass. A few days of misery but keep quiet and you'll be ok but it's not that at all. You need to be super focused and switched on. There's no hiding or playing the grey man.

@@meme4one - Yeah exactly. And strangely enough, I remember how many people asked for medical or were pulled when we were in stress positions. I knew in my mind it was a course, but you genuinely need physical robustness, as much as mental. By the time you’re “captured”, been on the run a few days and only had 1 chocolate bar between the 4 of us. Got taught what you should or shouldn’t eat and found myself munching on a bush 😂. When in the activity, It got to a stage where I looked forward to an exposure for 20 minutes, as I wasn’t in a stress position, with a bag on my head, blindfolded and ear defenders, effectively pinned to your mouth, restricting breathing for 2 hours a pop 😂

Thats crazy i was in 23 pioneer regiment i don't remember ever meeting or hearing of dilksys brother I was 522 sqn 13 trp my troop seargent was Sgt Parker we did alot of hard work out there in the middle East the bloody work up for the deployment was a f#cking ball buster we were going on log runs stretcher runs Bergen runs webbing boots and weapon runs even runs wearing respirators lucky for me i was well trained in n.b.c warfare and knew a little trick with the respirators there's a valve you can remove and it makes you be able to breath normally rather than like an asthmatic who smokes crude oil daily 😂 great interview guys keep up the good work and god save the king 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧💙🇺🇸👊👊👊✌

i remeber as a royal enginner 39 , i spent a year at ally all salem in kuwiat and I had to fix blocked urineals the stench came through the resperator it was horendos. I always wanted to go the rock with the yanks but never go the chance. Spent the next year and a half at PSAB in saudi which was like a years holiday :)

I'd always assumed Dilksy had done selection when seeing him doing interrogations on sas channel 4 - mind you, thinking of the Grey Man analogy, I don't imagine he's likely to merge into too many crowds with his height & head
